USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee have reached a $380 million settlement with hundreds of U.S. gymnasts abused by former national team doctor Larry Nassar, the New York Times reported.
Driving the news: The settlement marks the end of a five year legal battle and will compensate hundreds of gymnasts who were assaulted by Nassar and others over three decades, per the Wall Street Journal.
*The monetary sum is also one of the largest ever in a sexual abuse case.
State of play: The settlement was announced Monday during a bankruptcy proceeding for USA Gymnastics in Indiana, per the Times.
*Insurers of USA Gymnastics and the USOPC will fund most of the settlement, with USOPC paying $34 million and loaning USA Gymnastics $6 million for its own contribution, according to the Journal.
*Many gymnasts — including Olympic gold medalists Aly Raisman and Simone Biles — have spent years meditating with the sports federation. The settlement will go to over 500 athletes and will help cover medical care needed as a result of the abuse, per the Times.
The big picture: Nassar was sentenced to a minimum of 100 years in prison in 2018 after 160 women accused him of sexually abusing them under the pretense of medical treatment.
*In July, the FBI's inspector general issued a scathing report highlighting the "numerous and fundamental errors" in how the bureau handled its investigation into Nassar.
*In September, FBI Director Christopher Wray formally apologized to survivors for the agency's mishandling of the investigation.

AEW superstar tag-team The Young Bucks go Sneaker Shopping with Complex's Joe La Puma at Flight Club in New York City and talk about their missing Dior Jordan 1s, starting the trend of wrestlers wearing sneakers, and modifying Travis Scott Fragment Jordan 1s for the ring.
Corry Paris Stokes — better known as Nymrod — recently released his long-awaited album, “Educated Thug Music Vol. 1; The Year of The Narcissist.” The veteran rapper and songwriter shows off his musical form of vocal delivery that incorporates “rhyme, rhythmic speech and street vernacular in this 12-track album. Featuring musicians like Haddy Racks, Royal Flush and Manifest — just to name a few — it’s no surprise the album has so many long awaited hits.
Nymrod has made quite the name for himself over the years, after being released from prison where he meet and mentored under Max B. Shortly after his release Nymrod connected with Dipset members Jim Jones and Cam’ron where he would be featured in Jim Jones “Ballin” music video. During his career he has collaborated with Redman, The Weekend, Melo, The Heatmakerz, H.E.R., PMD of EPMD, Spliff Star, Junior Reid, Tyga and VADO. NYMROD has graced some of the countries biggest stages performing at the legendary NYC venue SOB’s countless times alongside Fred the Godson, Rah Digga, The Lox, Onyx and even headlined at 2018’s Hot 97’s Summer Jam, DJ Drewski’s Long Island Artist Showcase as well as Columbus Ohio’s The Rock Festival with iconic rock band Evanessence. A good portion of Nymrod's fan base and supporters comes from his performances. Nymrod has performed at venues up and down the east coast, some of the west coast and has even toured in Tokyo. He takes pride in the ability to work a crowd and command the stage. When Nymrod is on stage you cannot help but to take notice. He decided to have his Album release party for “Educated Thug Music Vol. 1; The Year Of The Narcissist” in Miami, Florida during the “Drive Your Dreams Car show” with DJ Envy. This is probably what contributed to “Educated Thug Music Vol. 1; The year of the Narcissist” day one debut of over 45k streams, which for an underground independent artist is like going Gold.
Nymrod has since released several multiple chart-topping singles like “LIFESTYLES” “THE KING AND I” and “TIME,” — the latter featuring rappers Haddy Racks and Royal Flush. This album has promised not to let his haters down; he has given every one of them more and more reason to hate even harder.
Opening with the title track, “DON’T F*CK WITH ME” tells the story of how many rappers aren’t who their bars suggest them to be and unrequited feelings. There’s organized upbeat chaos to the song, matching the lyrical and visual context of the song. The track ends with a very strong message to all those that feel they can F*ck with him.
“KING AND I” breaks down the fake interactions Nymrod has experienced since his starting of his record label “Federal District Records” and his career blowing up. Whether fake friends, artist contracts he’s had to cancel, or cancelling women whom couldn’t comprehend they wouldn’t be more than a one night stand. He let’s every one know he doesn’t need them and not to push his buttons rapping, “Ni**as wanna talk sh*t, talk sh*t, till the eagle in they mouth, in they mouth / Then they wanna talk it, talk it and try to work it out / Don’t push my buttons.”
Featuring rappers and songwriters Haddy Racks and Royal Flush “TIME” has a catchy hook and all three artists go back to back with sick verses that make you nod your head from the beat drop. Nymrod knows his worth with this song as he raps, “ I’d advice yall to breath easy / Ni**as know Nym, I don’t breath easy / if there’s a problem young man step to the D and see me / What yall Ni**as thought I was born greasy, I’ll take your cash money dog and leave ya a**es weezy,” Did we mention the bar game in this album.
In the music video, Nymrod, Haddy Racks and Royal Flush take turns clearly letting the streets know they are not to be tested. Loyalty is more than a tattoo to some. You just have to find a team worthy of you putting it all on the line.
Nymrod shows off his lyrical ability and range in genre with “SEASONS” featuring Enjo, which sounds more Pop-Hip Hop compared to the other tracks on “Educated Thug Music Vol. 1.” It also shows off his range and ability, to please the ladies in his calmer verses. You can hear the emotion in his voice in this track when he raps, “ Could you tell me where we went wrong, it’s like I’m caught up in this love song / I can’t concentrate or breath with my heart gone, you was my female doctor Hawthorne, now I gotta stretch it out, Armstrong / I understand your pain, I understand your gripes, man F*uck that nigga just come spend the night.”
Sticking with the hip-hop genre “MR NOBODY” is a slow hip-hop ballad about being stuck in a place where Nymrod talks about the rumors he’s heard about himself throughout his career. He can’t understand how the people he fed could call him bro, lover and friend one minute but then squint their eyes, curse him and call him a nobody with the same mouth that once whispered I Love You’s. Grammy award winner, Newo The Kid, showcases these conflicting emotions with an intense production.
Closing out the album “THE EDUCATION,” a track consisting mainly of base guitars, heavy drums and some strings along with other complimenting sounds. Nymrod reflects on how his experiences in the music industry and life have shaped him — both positively and negatively. He opens the song, “It’s like duck, duck, goose, hut one, hut two, this ain’t romper room when I’m aiming at your roof, this is what God looks like when God looks right / I’m just giving you the future in hindsight….” He is giving a clear lesson and class is in session.
The tracks I’ve highlighted show off the range of the album, but you have to listen to the entire album. I did straight through, no skips. I am looking forward to Education Thug Music Vol. 2; The Education. Nymrod has a bright future ahead in his music career.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The 14-year-old son of a Philadelphia pizza shop employee shot an armed robbery suspect who started choking one of his parents, police say.
Police say the series of incidents unfolded around 9:30 p.m. Thursday when three men robbed the CVS pharmacy at North Broad and Spring Garden in the Spring Garden section of the city.
Moments later, police say at least one of those men went a block away to rob the Bold Pizza Shop at 15th and Spring Garden.
Employees say the man forcibly reached over the counter and tried to take cash from the register.
A struggle ensued between an employee and the robbery suspect when the offender started to strangle the victim.
The victim's 14-year-old son grabbed a handgun from under the counter and shot the offender one time in the face, police said.
"There was money on the floor and there was also some broken glass inside the store, and there was also a large amount of blood," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.
The pizza shop was closed on Friday.
Some people who live nearby said they understand the teen was just trying to protect his parent.
"I think most people would do that in that situation to protect someone they love and they're being threatened so violently," said Nina Adams.
"I am very proud and its kind of sad that a 14-year-old had to shoot the suspect, but it was quick thinking and I'm glad they were able to catch the person so fast," said Raina Harris.
Investigators say they followed a trail of blood down the stairs of a SEPTA subway station at Broad and Spring Garden.
Police say that's where they found the 33-year-old male suspect.
"From following the trail of blood, we also found some cash in the subway where the victim was found," Small said.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Julianna Peña didn’t even realize Amanda Nunes had tapped out of Peña’s chokehold until somebody told her in the cage moments after the referee pulled her off the long-reigning champion.
One of the biggest upsets in UFC history might have been a surprise in the moment for Peña, but she had never stopped believing she could do the nearly impossible.
“Everybody was sleeping on me, and I shook up the world and did exactly what I said I was going to do,” Peña said. “But I’m not surprised. I have a big heart and determination.”
Peña stopped Nunes by submission with a rear naked choke in the second round at UFC 269 on Saturday night, claiming the bantamweight title from the long-reigning two-division champion in a 10-to-1 upset.
Charles Oliveira also defended his lightweight title for the first time with a third-round stoppage victory over Dustin Poirier by standing rear naked choke in the main event.
But the night belonged to Peña (11-4), who was a massive underdog against a vaunted opponent widely considered the greatest fighter in the history of women’s mixed martial arts. Nunes had won 12 consecutive fights since 2014 and reigned simultaneously atop the 135-pound bantamweight and 145-pound featherweight divisions for three years.
“Amanda has been such a great champion, and she’s done a ton for the sport,” Peña said. “For me to be able to take out arguably the greatest of all time is something that’s still sinking in right now.”
After Nunes largely dominated the first round with two knockdowns and superior striking, Peña shockingly hurt Nunes with punches in a slugfest start to the second round. Peña then got Nunes to the ground, got her back and forced the champion to tap out with a choke around her neck with 1:38 left.
“It feels crazy,” Peña said. “I definitely expected to win, but the world is my oyster.”
Peña had won just two of her four fights over the past 5 1/2 years, and the Spokane native who trains in Chicago got the title shot as one of the few legitimate 135-pound fighters that Nunes hadn’t already beaten. Peña didn’t fight for 30 months from 2017 to 2019 while giving birth to her daughter, but she won two of her three ensuing bouts to get this shot.
“Julianna is a person who always believed in herself and believed that she could win this fight if she got it,” UFC President Dana White said. “You heard her for months leading up to this fight, and she did it. It’s one of the things that makes this sport so incredible. An upset like this, where you can’t believe it, it happens all the time here.”
Nunes was fighting for only the third time in two years after making two featherweight defenses since her most recent defense of her bantamweight belt in December 2019. Few opponents had even given her a stiff challenge since her second victory over current flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko by split decision in 2017.
Nunes is almost certain to be granted a rematch with Peña, who is eager to grant it: “We can do it next week. I’m free next week. I’m free next month.”
After Peña’s upset, Oliveira (32-8, 1 no-contest) survived a rough fight with Poirier (28-7, 1 no-contest) to improve to 10-0 with nine stoppage victories since 2017.
Poirier battered the champ with punches in the first round and knocked him down twice, but Oliveira took control on the ground in the second round with a series of vicious elbows. He finished the fight with 3:58 left in the third by attaching himself to Poirier’s back and forcing him to tap while standing up.
“We respect each other a lot,” Oliveira said through a translator. “But I was going to have my arm raised, and that’s what happened. ... I want to make history. I want to leave a legacy, and I plan to show people that I can.”
Oliveira finally claimed the belt last May in his 28th UFC fight -- the longest wait for a title in the promotion’s history and the culmination of an epic journey by a Brazilian veteran who overcame poverty and childhood illness to become an elite jiu-jitsu practitioner and mixed martial artist.
Oliveira set the UFC record for stoppage victories by beating Michael Chandler with punches, and his finish of Poirier increased the record to 18. Oliveira’s 10-fight winning streak is the second-longest active string in the UFC, trailing only Kamaru Usman’s 15 straight.
Oliveira and White both said the champ’s next defense is likely to be against Justin Gaethje, the entertaining brawler who held the interim title in 2020.
Poirier already had a spectacular 2021 with his two victories over Conor McGregor, erasing the vaunted former champion’s winning mystique and making two enormous paychecks for decisive stoppage wins. Poirier’s only other loss in his last 11 fights since 2016 was to Khabib Nurmagomedov, who took away Poirier’s interim lightweight title before retiring undefeated.
“It ruins the dream outcome that I had planned, to forever be a world champion after tonight,” Poirier said. “But the year isn’t ruined. An opportunity I had is ruined, and that’s all right. It is what it is. I’ll look in the mirror like a man.”

BALTIMORE (WBALTV @MurderInkNews) — A man killed his girlfriend in Federal Hill and his ex-wife in Columbia before turning the gun on himself Saturday, police said.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison told 11 News that officers received call shortly after 1:30 p.m. for an alarm in the 1500 block of Marshall Street in Federal Hill. The officers found a rear door kicked in, indicating a forced entry, Harrison said.
The officers found a 41-year-old woman inside dead from gunshot wounds. Harrison said police received information that the perpetrator then went to Howard County to kill another person and take his own life.
"We learned there's another homicide scene with another woman who died from apparent gunshot wounds. Then, we learned the perpetrator took his own life," Harrison said.
Howard County police said officers were called just after 2:07 p.m. to an apartment building in the 7300 block of Eden Brook Drive in Columbia for reports of gunshots. Police said the officers arrived at the scene at 2:14 p.m. and found two adults in a vestibule of the apartment building who were fatally shot.
Howard County police on Sunday identified the suspect as Rajaee Shareef Black, 44, of Hanover, and the victim as Wendy Natalie Black, 42, of Columbia.
County police said officers found the Blacks' two young children just after the shooting unharmed in Rajaee Black's car in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The children were placed in a safe environment and did not witness the incident, police said.
A Facebook video posted by the alleged suspect shows him talking to his phone, explaining the events surrounding the crime. The suspect made claims about his ex-wife in the video and how he killed his girlfriend just minutes before.
But by the time Howard County police were notified at 2:22 p.m. by Baltimore City police that there was a video posted on social media that indicated the suspect intended to go to Howard County, it was too late.
"What we now believe is that was a domestic-related murder-suicide. We believe the suspect, who is male, came to the area, sought out the female victim, shot and killed her and then shot and killed himself," Howard County police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn said.
"This is a tragic domestic event that did not have to happen, and this is what we're talking about all the time with guns and domestic violence and the willingness of people to use these guns to take out their anger to solve conflict," Harrison said.

Things certainly got heated between DJ Akademiks and IG model Whitney LeDawn -- with cussing, yelling and even drink-throwing -- but Whitney says she NEVER pulled a gun ... despite claims to the contrary.
Ak claimed that during the turbulent interview, Whitney brandished her gun in a threatening fashion ... something LeDawn adamantly denies. The model admits to carrying a firearm, but says she never flashed or threatened anyone with it.
LeDawn now believes the only reason she was brought on the show was to be made fun of, specifically for having a baby out of wedlock as a Christian woman ... and thinks the gun claim was only made to help boost attention around the episode.
During the episode, Akademiks teased LeDawn about the gun, telling her to "reach for it" and "try it" ... but she says she never caved.
The model says Instagram deleted her account after reported "bullying" violations, but she claims she was only responding to hate from DJ Akademiks' fans after her appearance ... she added that she hasn't been contacted by the police or anyone from the podcast.
For what it's worth, you never really see the gun in the video that was posted ... but clearly, each side has a very separate version of what happened.
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Tornadoes and severe weather caused catastrophic damage across multiple states late Friday, killing at least six people overnight as a storm system tore through a candle factory in Kentucky, an Amazon facility in Illinois and a nursing home in Arkansas. The Kentucky governor said he feared dozens more could be dead.
Gov. Andy Beshear said about 110 people were in the factory in Mayfield, Kentucky, when the tornado hit.
“We believe our death toll from this event will exceed 50 Kentuckians & probably end up 70 to 100,” he said. “It’s very hard, really tough & we’re praying for each & every one of those families.”
Kyana Parsons-Perez, a factory employee, was trapped under five feet of debris for at least two hours until rescuers managed to free her.
In an interview with TODAY, she said it was the “absolutely the most terrifying” event she had ever experienced. “I did not think I was going to make it at all.”
Just before the tornado struck, the building’s lights flickered. She felt a gust of wind, her ears started “popping” & then, “Boom. Everything came down on us.” People started screaming, and she heard Hispanic workers praying in Spanish.
Among those who helped rescue the trapped workers were inmates from the nearby Graves County Jail, she said.
“They could have used that moment to try to run away or anything, but they did not. They were there, helping us,” she said.
At least one person died at an Amazon facility in Edwardsville, Illinois, Police Chief Mike Fillback told reporters Saturday morning. The roof of the building was ripped off and a wall about the length of a football field collapsed.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether the damage was caused by straight-line storms or a tornado, but the National Weather Service office near St. Louis reported “radar-confirmed tornadoes” in the Edwardsville area around the time of the collapse.

Cops in & around L.A. are beefing up patrol & bracing themselves for possible gang retaliation killings in the wake of Slim 400's murder & a growing gang war in the city.
Law enforcement sources tell us that while they don't believe Slim was a targeted hit, they still think the killing was gang-related ... which almost always means revenge. Our sources say they believe Slim happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time & his alleged ties to the Bloods didn't help.
We're told lately things have really ramped up between the Bloods and the Crips, so tensions are already high & Slim's murder likely won't help that.
We're told the Inglewood Police Dept. will have a heavy & visible presence around the place of Slim's killing in hopes to discourage it from happening again to someone else.
As we reported, footage of the killing surfaced online Thursday showing the brazen attack. Slim's murderer walked up a driveway, pulled his gun & opened fire several times ... killing the rapper.
We're told cops across the city have been extremely frustrated with practices put in place by the district attorney & Governor Newsom that allow for certain criminals to bail out with little or sometimes no bail at all.

The jury didn't buy Jussie Smollett's claim he was the victim of a racist-homophobic attack, but the leaders of Black Lives Matter certainly do ... and the org. is sticking by the actor.
BLM and BLM LA released a statement before the verdict, in support of the "Empire" actor, saying ... "So let’s be clear: we love everybody in our community ... we can never believe police, especially the CPD over Jussie Smollett, a Black man who has been courageously present, visible, and vocal in the struggle for Black freedom."
Now, after Jussie's been found guilty, BLM LA leader Melina Abdullah tells us that stance hasn't changed -- Jussie has their full support. Abdula says the organization refuses to abandon its people and stands on the principle that the justice system is corrupt.
Smollett's former "Empire" costar, Bryshere Gray, is standing by his friend as well, telling us, "My prayers, love and support is unwavering for my brother Jussie and the Smollet Family."
Smollett was found guilty Thursday on 5 of 6 felony counts of lying to Chicago PD.
From the jump, Jussie denied claims he staged the 2019 attack ... sticking to his story when he reported it to police with the rope still around his neck.
Jussie now faces a possible 3-year prison sentence, but considering he has no prior criminal record ... it's unclear if he'll get any time behind bars.
On the other hand, it's likely he'll have to pay $130k in restitution to Chicago to cover its expenses for investigating the hoax.
