You can't do anything in the rap game today without someone questioning your motives. Especially if your name is 50 Cent and you have developed a reputation for winning at all costs. Always seeking that next "Vitamin Water" type opportunity to take advantage. Whether that be in music, the movie business. on Wall Street or in the streets. So it should come as no surprise that there have been whispers the G-Unit General formed an alliance with Beanie Sigel against Jay-Z strictly for his own gain. Beanie aka The Broad Street Bully is quick to clear the air of such nonsense. The Philly mic controller recently spoke to the Source Magazine about these rumors, saying: "If 50 Cent is using Beans to do what he’s going to do, that’s cool. But at the same time, Beans is using 50 Cent to do what I need to be done. So at the end of the day we use each other, but we don’t misuse each other," While Beanie has not yet signed to G-Unit Records (he still has an obligation to Def Jam). It is clear that he and 50 have developed a relationship that is mutually beneficial. Where that will ultimately lead, only time will tell. For more of this story pick The Source Magazine’s Jan/Feb issue. It will be on newsstands nationwide January 20th. Follow Me @Twitter.com/ChasinMoPaper

Behind The Scenes Video After The Jump There were plenty of people yelling "Free Gucci," plenty of people shouting out their city: Shawty Lo orchestrated a huge display of hometown pride on Tuesday afternoon in the ATL while filming his video for "Atlanta, GA," with Ludacris and The-Dream. Gucci Mane is also featured on the track, but obviously couldn't make the video because he's currently in jail. Still, Lo had no shortage of guest stars, with Cee-Lo and Big Gipp from the Goodie Mob, Soulja Boy Tell' Em, Yung Joc, Lil Scrappy, Mike Bigga (a.k.a. Killer Mike), Baby D, DJ Montay, Zaytoven, Baltimore Raven Daniel Wilcox, DJ Greg Street and Waka Flocka Flame coming to the set. The video was shot at Bedford Pines housing project and at Club Crucial.
"First album out the trunk, I started making some bills," Luda raps on his verse, filmed at at Crucial. "And in six short years I sold 15 mil/ Act a fool in College Park/ Went to school in College Park/ Bought a crib in College Park/ And still live in College Park ... I wasn't born but I'mma die in Atlanta, GA." Crucial is one of the spots Lo shouts out in the song. "Vision's on Sunday/ Magic City Monday," Lo boasts, calling out other nightspots as well. "Two dolla Tuesday/Yeah, you know Shawty comin' ... Ain't gonna be no hurtin' nobody/ Crucial on Saturday/ Stationed while you askin' me/ Headed to the door, 'bout to see what's happenin'." The-Dream was surrounded by ladies for his segment. "You know where I'm from/ You know where I stay," he sings on the hook. "From my head down to my socks/ I'm posted in the A/ My Chevy sittin low./ My Phantom ridin' high/ Them A's go up every time I ride by!" "Atlanta, GA" will be one of the lead singles from Lo's forthcoming I Am Carlos LP; no release date has been scheduled. "Atlanta,GA" Behind The Scenes MTV Follow Me @Twitter.com/ChasinMoPaper

Well, the final numbers have been crunched and the end result is something we pretty much suspected all along: 2009 was a very big year for Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and the late, great King of Pop, Michael Jackson. On Wednesday (January 6), Nielsen SoundScan released their sales figures for 2009, and while some of the data is downright depressing — total album sales (including digital) dropped more than 12 percent — we prefer to focus on the positive: Swift, Gaga and Jackson (not to mention Susan Boyle, the Black Eyed Peas and the Kings of Leon) moved a whole lot of units over the past 12 months. Swift's Fearless was the year's top-selling album, moving more than 3.2 million copies, holding off a late-year charge from Boyle, whose I Dreamed a Dream sold some 3.1 million copies to land at #2 (though Boyle had the best-selling album released in 2009, since Fearless actually came out in November 2008). Michael Jackson's Number Ones was #3, selling more than 2.3 million copies, and Lady Gaga's The Fame (2.23 million) and Andrea Bocelli's My Christmas (2.2 million) round out the top five. Jackson was 2009's top-selling artist by a mile. He sold more than 8.2 million albums, doubling his nearest competitor, Swift, who sold 4.6 million. Some group called the Beatles landed at #3, selling more than 3.2 million albums, followed by Boyle (3.1 million) and Gaga (2.8 million). Gaga was named the top-selling digital artist of the year — a category based on total digital track sales — as fans downloaded more than 15 million of her songs. The Black Eyed Peas were next, selling nearly 13 million digital tracks. Jackson stood at #3 (12.35 million), Swift came in at #4 (12.3 million) with Beyoncé at #5. The Peas held the top two spots on the top-selling digital songs list with "Boom Boom Pow" (4.7 million downloads) and "I Gotta Feeling" (4.4 million), followed by Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" (4.3 million), Flo Rida's "Right Round" (4.1 million) and Gaga's "Just Dance" (3.2 million). The Nielsen SoundScan numbers were based on the 52-week period of January 5, 2009 -- January 3, 2010. Source : MTV Follow Me @Twitter.com/ChasinMoPaper

NEW YORK -- NBA commissioner David Stern has indefinitely suspended Gilbert Arenas, saying the Washington Wizards guard is "not currently fit to take the court" for a game. Stern says in a statement Wednesday that Arenas' actions will "ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse." Because Arenas violated NBA rules by bringing guns into Washington's locker room, Stern decided to punish Arenas now. He said the suspension begins immediately. "We fully endorse the decision of the NBA to indefinitely suspend Gilbert Arenas," the Wizards responded in a statement on Wednesday. "Strictly legal issues aside, Gilbert's recent behavior and statements, including his actions and statements last night in Philadelphia, are unacceptable. Some of our other players appeared to find Gilbert's behavior in Philadelphia amusing. This is also unacceptable. Under Abe Pollin's leadership, our organization never tolerated such behavior, and we have no intention of ever doing so." Stern says he originally planned to wait for the criminal investigation to be completed before taking action, and had directed the Wizards to do the same. Every game Arenas, who celebrated his 28th birthday on Wednesday, ends up missing during the suspension will cost him $147,208. However, If the suspension lasts more than 12 games it can be appealed and heard by an independent arbitrator. The suspension comes after multiple media reports over the weekend said that a dispute over a gambling debt led to a conflict between Arenas and teammate Javaris Crittenton. Multiple sources told ESPN.com that an argument commenced during a card game on the team's overnight flight back to Washington from Phoenix on Dec. 19 and escalated into a heated exchange between Arenas and Crittenton. The Wizards had Dec. 20 off, but sources say hostilities between the two resumed Dec. 21 in the locker room on a practice day. Sources say that Arenas, in response to what was said on the flight, placed the three guns on a chair near Crittenton's locker stall and invited him to pick one before practice on Dec. 21. Sources said that Crittenton subsequently let Arenas know that he had his own gun. The Washington Post reported in Sunday's editions that Arenas, according to sources, was expecting Crittenton to see the guns on his chair as a joke based on the earlier back-and-forth on the plane, during which Crittenton allegedly said that he would shoot Arenas in his surgically repaired knee. But Crittenton, according to the Post, reacted angrily and tossed one of the guns to the floor, saying he had his own. In his statement, Arenas confirmed that the guns were brought out at the Dec. 21 practice. "As I have said before, I had kept the four unloaded handguns in my house in Virginia but then moved them over to my locker at the Verizon Center to keep them away from my young kids," the statement read. "I brought them without any ammunition into the District of Columbia, mistakenly believing that the recent change in the D.C. gun laws allowed a person to store unloaded guns in the District. On Monday, December 21st, I took the unloaded guns out in a misguided effort to play a joke on a teammate. "Contrary to some press accounts, I never threatened or assaulted anyone with the guns and never pointed them at anyone. Joke or not, I now recognize that what I did was a mistake and was wrong. I should not have brought the guns to D.C. in the first place, and I now realize that there's no such thing as joking around when it comes to guns -- even if unloaded." Arenas met with law enforcement officials on Monday to explain why he had guns at the Verizon Center last month. Arenas' lawyer issued a statement saying that the player met with federal prosecutors at the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and detectives of the Metropolitan Police Department for more than two hours. At the NBA's request, the firearms language was bolstered during collective bargaining in 2005. Players are subject to discipline if they bring guns to the arena or practice facility, or even an offsite promotional appearance. ESPN Follow Me @Twitter.com/ChasinMoPaper

The singer-and-actress believes her role in 'El Cantante’ was worthy of an Academy Award and was disappointed she didn’t even get nominated for the prestigious honour. Jennifer – who starred alongside husband Marc Anthony in the movie - said: 'I feel like I had that Oscar worthy role in 'El Cantante’, but I don’t even think the academy members saw it. I feel like it’s their responsibility to do that, to see everything that’s out there, everything that could be great.' The 'Maid in Manhattan’ star admits she watched the 2008 Oscars with frustration even though she had given birth to her twins, Max and Emme, just days before. She said: 'Well, it is a little bit frustrating. It was funny; when the Oscars were on, I had just given birth on the 22nd, and the Oscars, I think, were a day or two later. I was sitting there with my twins - I couldn’t have been happier - but I was like, 'How dope would it have been if I would’ve won the Oscar and been here in my hospital bed accepting the award?’ 'Thank you so much! I just want to thank the academy!’ ' However, she does believe she will get the honour one day, telling Latina magazine: 'Things will happen when they’re supposed to happen. Audio After The Jump When Gucci Mane calls his friend and producer Zaytoven from jail, they don't waste time by talking about frivolous things like the Atlanta Falcons not making the playoffs. The two are mapping out more records. "We stay working," Zaytoven said Tuesday via phone from Atlanta. "He calls me from jail with new raps all the time. He raps [them] to me, and I tell him to leave it on my voicemail, so I could hear it over and over again."
Gucci Mane went to jail late last year, just weeks before the release of his The State vs. Radric Davis LP, for a probation violation. In December, Gucci called MTV News from jail and said that not only does he have a follow-up album already done and awaiting a spring release, but when he gets home (which should be in less than a year), he plans to record and release yet another project in December. The LPs are called The State vs. Radric Davis: The Appeal and The State vs. Radric Davis: The Verdict. Zay, who will work on both new albums, said incarceration hasn't slowed Gucci's stride. "We're working as if he was out," the producer said. "I done been with Gucci so long and he's been locked up so many times, it ain't nothing new to us. The songs he writes, I have the track sitting and waiting on him when he gets out. Sometimes [during our phone calls], I play him my ideas for a track or a hook I got so he could be writing and getting ideas for it. The crazy thing is, when he gets out and comes to the studio, we do something all brand-new. We almost forget about what we been doing [while he's in jail]." When Gucci gets out this time, Zay said we'll hear an enhanced LaFlare. "He's still doing his shining and iced-out thing, but the raps now got more lyrical," Zay promised. "He's in jail, so he's really putting more thoughts in his raps, more lyrical content. He's coming with a whole lot of different ideas. Rather than just party music or trap music, he's coming with a lot of strong ideas and lyrical content in his stuff. It gives him a chance to really listen to what he's saying, and he's putting his words together in a different way without no beat." MTV Follow Me @Twitter.com/ChasinMoPaper

Floyd Mayweather was ready to rumble with a famous nemesis in Vegas this weekend -- but just before a fight broke out, Diddy saved the day. It all went down at the grand opening of Vanity nightclub in the Hard Rock Hotel -- which was hosted by Diddy. We're told Floyd Mayweather rolled over to the party to see Diddy, when he literally ran into rapper Rick Ross. Sources tell TMZ one of the men "bumped" into the other man and their entourages immediately became "confrontational." But as things started to heat up, we're told Diddy swooped in between the guys and calmed everyone down. We called Mayweather's camp for comment and his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., told us there's been beef between Floyd and Ross for a while because Ross has allegedly been, "talking s**t." We're told both Mayweather Jr. and Ross eventually went back in the club and partied the rest of the night away without incident. Calls to Rick Ross were not returned. No comment from Camp Diddy. 2009 is behind us and the hype machine is starting to rev up on artists and albums for 2010. The interesting thing about "most anticipated albums" lists is that in many cases the hype proves to be far superior to the finished product. But that doesn't really matter at this time of the year. So let's take a look at Vibe's 2010 list of albums they think we most want to hear. # 10

Andre 3000, TBD Release Date: 2010? Expected Production: A studio loner, it’s likely Three Stacks’ solo LP will be mostly self-produced, but don’t count out Outkast affiliates Rico Wade or DJ Swift. Expected Collaborations: If 2003's The Love Below is any indication, Andre will keep the guest list extra-exclusive. Partner-in-rhyme Big Boi may be the one and only guest spot, if any. Why The Buzz? Hip-hop heads collectively sighed after discovering Andre Benjamin’s deeper-than-rap raps were replaced by idiosyncratic crooning on his first solo effort, The Love Below. Today, lyricists from Fabolous to T.I. are hitting notes, and maybe that’s a good thing––for them––because each infrequent verse from ’Dre threatens that coveted hottest rapper alive title. While his inclusion here is wishful thinking, lets just hope his long-awaited rap LP isn’t on a Detox-like schedule. # 9

Nas and Damien Marley, Distant Relatives (Tuff Gong/Def Jam) Release Date: March 16, 2010 Production: Damien and brother Stephen handle the bulk of the album, but 9th Wonder and long time Nas collaborator Salaam Remi chip in also. Expected Collaborations: Somali rhymer K’naan is featured on two cuts, while songstress Joss stone and legend Stevie Wonder lend their vocals for “Our Generation.” Why the Buzz? For the first time, reggae and hip-hop unite for an entire album. And who better kick off such a happening than two of the best to do it in their respectable arenas? God’s Son and Bob’s son will both preach and teach as expected, but also entertain. “As We Enter,” the album’s first leak, promises the project’s going to be equal parts “patois and rap star.” # 8

Erykah Badu, New Amerykah, Part II (Return of the Ankh) (Universal Motown) Release Date: Feb. 23, 2010 Expected Production: An eclectic lineup that includes 9th Wonder, Sa-Ra, James Poyser, Madlib, Karriem Riggins, the late J. Dilla and Ms. Badu herself. Expected Collaborations: Roots band leader/drummer ?uestlove offers his masterful hands. But the Lil Wayne-featured track “Jump in the Air” (one of 10 versions of a two-fisted, rap-funk sound clash that will feature 10 MC’s) is floating around the web via leaked download. Why the Buzz? The usually forward-thinking Badu gives a sincere nod to her jazzy torch song style that first made her a neo-soul superstar with 1997’s Baduizm, making it one of her most accessible projects to date. Still, there’s plenty of the left field brilliance of 2008’s critically acclaimed standout New Amerykah, Pt. 1: 4th World War. # 7

T.I., TBD (Grand Hustle/Atlantic) Expected Release: TBD Possible Production: Tip should have plenty of options. Expect him to pull from the likes of Just Blaze, DJ Toomp, Swizz Beatz and Kanye West. Possible Collaborations: In the past, T.I.’s worked with everyone from Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes to Justin Timberlake and Rihanna, so we expect more high-caliber cameos. An Alfa Mega sighting––not so much. Why the Buzz? T.I.’s only halfway out of jail, but reportedly already all the way back in the studio. For roughly six months, the king’s been absent from his throne. Gucci Mane (now imprisoned) and a host of other Southern style MCs have emerged during his leave. We’re anxious to see if he’ll put them back in their place. # 6

Lupe Fiasco, Lasers (Atlantic) Expected Release: Spring 2010 Expected Production: Instead of shelling out top dollars for super producers, Lupe works exclusively with his 1st & 15th producers Soundtrakk and Prolyfic. Expected Collaborations: Contributions from his stable of artists, including Gemstones and Nikki Jean Why the Buzz? While in the past Lupe dazzled true hip-hop heads with his intricate wordplay, he’s always shirked the spotlight. After reneging on retiring from the game, though, he’s now out to prove he should be No. 1 on everybody’s list (see: his Thanksgiving mixtape, Enemy of the State). Which means more work for those still decoding metaphors from his last two albums, 2006’s Food & Liquor and 2007’s The Cool. # 5

Young Jeezy, Thug Motivation 103 (Def Jam) Release Date: Feb. 9, 2010 Expected Production: Kanye West is the first producer invited to Mr. Birthday Bash’s motivation party. After assisting Mr. West in Hawaii with 808s & Heartbreak in 2008, expect the “Put On” creator to give Jeezy a bunch of tools to teach. Southern beats kings Shawty Redd, Zaytoven and Drumma Boy will also lend a hand. Expected Collaborations: Nothing is confirmed yet, but Jeezy reportedly has a wish list that includes Lil Wayne (featured on the leaked “Scared Money”), Eminem, Jay-Z and Kanye. Why the Buzz? On his last album, The Recession, Jeezy took a break from talking about what could be to rap about what is. With the America’s economy headed back in the right direction, the snowman’s back to being the trap’s go-to professor. Class is back in session. # 4

Sade, Soldier of Love (Epic) Release Date: February 8, 2010 Expected Production: Producer Mike Pela has handled the boards since the smoky vocalist’s 1984 debut Diamond Life and will be featured on her sixth studio effort. Expected Collaborations: Sade’s longtime bandmates, which include steady guitarist, sax man Stuart Matthewman and keyboardist Andre Hale, once again share writing duties with the Nigeria-born Brit. Why the Buzz? Sade’s first new studio album since 2000’s Lover’s Rock has all the classic, haunting, soul searching hallmarks of her previous releases, as well as a few curve pitches. The title track and first single “Soldier of Love” sounds like a Sade-led Portishead scoring a ‘60s-era Sergio Leone spaghetti western while the groove-heavy “Bring Me Home” is destined to become a freestyle favorite for underground MC’s. # 3

Usher, Raymond vs. Raymond (LaFace) Expected Release Date: March 2010 Possible Production: Ursh is getting help from old favorites like Jermaine Dupri, Sean Garrett, Rico Love, The Neptunes and Polow Da Don. Expected Collaborations: Usher’s sixth set will feature a few rappers including Nicki Minaj (as heard on the leaked “Little Freak”), Plies on “Hey Daddy” and possibly Jay-Z. Why the Buzz? In an era where most artists pray for a gold album, Usher cursed the fact that he only went platinum with his mild-mannered 2008 effort Here I Stand. But Mr. Entertainment’s single again, meaning that he’s cutting the monogamous lyrics loose and is back to macking like it’s 2004. # 2

Kanye West, TBD (G.O.O.D./Def Jam) Expected Release: Summer 2010 Possible Production: As usual, West is expected to handle the majority of the album's melodies. Possible Collaborations: Big brother Jay-Z will likely make an appearance along with Young Jeezy. Members of West’s G.O.O.D. team, Common, Mr. Hudson and Kid Cudi may also come aboard. Why the Buzz? After taking three months off to get his clear his mind, it appears Mr. West has more to say than ever. And he's starting fresh; as 'Ye's blog tells it, he made his grand return to the studio on New Year's Day. 808s & Heartbreak, his eccentrically emo 2008 effort, featured the rapper singing his Auto-Tuned heart out. We're hoping ‘Ye’s next effort will be a hybrid of heart-on-sleeve croons and boisterous rhymes. Just look at all the cheers he received when he crashed Kid Cudi’s Nokia Theater stage last week. They’re ready. And it appears he is, too. # 1

Drake, Thank Me Later (Universal) Expected Release: March 2010 Expected Production: His longtime collaborators Omen, 40 and Boi-1Da (“Best I Ever Had”). He also has studio sessions with Kanye West scheduled this January. Expected Collaborations: Confirmed guests include Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Bun B. And, last we heard, Drake was looking to nab Sade. Why the Buzz? On top of a classic mixtape (that’s right, classic) and an Eminem collabo, the golden boy of 2009 has one of the most anticipated debuts since 50 Cent. In many eyes, Drizzy hasn’t spit a horrible verse or song yet (see: “Forever,” “Fear”), so the ball is his to drop. But with his sing-songy flow and witty stanzas, failure is unlikely. There are no more breaks in the music industry, especially in the streets. During the holiday season, cats were either dropping mixtapes or hyping up releases that are soon to come. Fab, don't worry. We're not gonna sweat you over not dropping on Christmas as promised. As long as you bring that Loso quality, we'll wait. Lupe and DJ Absolut coming soon? We're definitely anticipating that one, as well as Jay Electronica's new tape. Is there anything out right now as dope as "Exhibit C"? Styles P and Green Lantern coming next month? Young Jeezy promising to come any day now? 2010 is going to be a nutty first quarter, and that's just on the streets. In any event, here is a special edition of Don't Sleep, where we highlight some of the tapes that came in the past several days. Don't Sleep: Necessary Notables » Lloyd Banks' V5 DJ Collaborator: DJ Whoo Kid

Necessary Notes: Banks isn't pulling any punches. You should've seen all the smiles on the faces on Jamaica Avenue in Queens when the bootlegger opened up a box of brand-new burned copies of Banks' latest installment of microphone terror. Banks sounds a little hungrier on this one (his voice is raspier and louder on tracks like "Sh---y City 2"). The early word from the Unit is that the crazy mofo named Banko is going to actually drop an LP this year in addition to all the underground heat. Can't-Miss Tracks: "Power Back" and "Rather Be Me" » Bow Wow's G2 (Greenlight 2)

DJ Collaborators: DJ Ill Will and DJ Rockstar Necessary Notes: That retirement Bow talked about in the wake of his last LP, New Jack City II (released in April 2009), was shorter than WWE wrestler Hornswoggle's. The 22-year-old Ohio player (he lives in MIA now, BTW) was back to dropping freestyles in no time. He even signed a brand-new record deal with Cash Money last year and has a new album due for this summer. As we learned from the original Greenlight, everything's a go. This is not your little's sister's Bow Wow anymore. How could he top the first Greenlight's shock value of "Regrets," on which he talked about sipping syrup, smoking weed and being high out of his mind? Well, Bow, fresh off the set of his film "Lottery Ticket," shouts out that purp on "I Do This" to open the mixtape. He also warns Diddy that he has eyes for Cassie on the You So remix of "Say Something." Also, for a little trip down memory lane, check out the video for a Mixtape Daily interview with Bow from early 2009. Can't-Miss Tracks: "I Wanna Rock" freestyle and "Shine" » Reflection Eternal's The Re:Union

DJ Collaborator: DJ Statik Selektah Necessary Notes: Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek reconnect for their new LP, Revolutions Per Minute, due this spring. Talib and Tek go ham with 30 tracks of new flav, previously unreleased gems and hits, baby! Can't-Miss Tracks: "Just Begun" (featuring Mos Def, Jay Electronica and J. Cole) and "The Thrill Is Gone" (featuring Styles P) Other Heat This Week » DJ Whoo Kid, Raekwon and DJ Scream - Coke Up in Da Dollar Bill » Yelawolf - Trunk Muzik » Kia Shine - Alarm Clock Theory » Young Jeezy - 103 MTV Follow Me @Twitter.com/ChasinMoPaper

2009 was a huge year for Wu-Tang member, Raekwon. His album, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2, made multiple year-end lists and was considered one of the best albums of the year. For the New Year, the rapper made a big announcement for fans: that he would be dropping two more new albums in 2010. He revealed the news on his Twitter page (@RaekwonIcewater): "O, I forgot my announcement on Jan. 1 to give y'all, so [I'm going to] tell ya now! I will be droppin' 2 albums this year!" Throughout his career, Rae has only released four solo projects. His most successful being his debut, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..., and its follow-up in 2009. 1999's Immobilarity eventually reached gold status, but 2003's The Lex Diamond Story was less than stellar. But, with 2009's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... 2, the rapper's buzz is at a new high, and fans are excited for what's next. Source: BallerStatus Follow Me @Twitter.com/ChasinMoPaper
