Kamasi Washington (saxophone) and Miles Mosley (bass) improvise a tune live in Cosmic Zoo studios before having a long conversation with Intuition on the Kinda Neat podcast.
This week we sat down with saxophonist, composer, and jazz aficionado Kamasi Washington. His latest record The Epic (released on Brainfeeder) is a 3 hour dreamscape journey through the mind of a master craftsman. The Los Angeles jazz scene seemingly revolves around a large group of friends who’ve been playing music together since childhood (when I asked Kamasi how long he’d known Thundercat his response was “Since he was in his mom’s belly"). Their names–Kamasi, Terrace, Thundercat, Ronald, Miles, Ambrose, etc–have recently been coming to the forefront because so many of them worked on Kendrick‘s To Pimp A Butterfly record but, make no mistake, they’ve all been honing their craft in a vibrant LA scene for years. Hear us talk about how he almost ended up as a physicist instead of a musician, how playing hip hop live changed his thoughts on how to play jazz, and how the saxophone chose him and not the other way around.
Remember kids: sharing is caring.

Ronda Rousey is dominating her competition in the Ultimate Fighting Championships, and in the process she's becoming one of the most recognized athletes in the the world.
She lands on the cover of Sports Illustrated's May 13 issue, where she is dubbed The World's Most Dominant Athlete. Looking at the UFC women's bantamweight champion's record of 11-0, it's hard to argue that Ronda isn't the best of the best.
The 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist in Judo has parlayed her success in the ring to land acting and modeling gigs.
Ronda sat down with Good Morning America recently to talk about her new book “My Fight/Your Fight,” her dad's suicide when she was 8-year's old, her mom being a huge source of inspiration, overcoming homelessness and more.
“It’s not really a memoir and it’s not really a self-help book,” Rousey said on “Good Morning America” of her book “My Fight/Your Fight,” out today. “It’s a little bit more a mature themed book. It’s a life story and life isn't PG rated.”
Rousey would know. Born with her umbilical cord around her neck, she didn’t talk until she was 4.
“We lost my dad, and that was a hard time,” she said. “And my mom had all of us to take care of by herself, which was really hard for her.”
Then, her father took his own life when she was eight. As a young girl, she discovered that her mom had been a judo champion, so that became her path.
“My mom if you're sick is like the most nurturing, sweet, beautiful person. And it’s funny with the injury she’s like ‘Walk it off!’” Rousey joked. “But if you cough she’s like, ‘Oh, my baby, are you okay?’ So the second I get sick, I’m like, ‘Call mom, it’s nurture time!’”
Rousey remembers long cars rides for hours where her mom would pump her up, trying to build confidence.
“‘You’re faster than them and you’re stronger than them and you have great left uchimada. And your genetics are great.’ And then she would just keep pulling for stuff like, ‘Your hair is so shiny that it will reflect the light into their eyes and could distract them and then you could pounce on them in that moment,’” Rousey remembered of her mom’s encouragement.

The world has been curious about Young Thug's relationship with his fiancee Jerrika Karlae for some time now, and the happy couple recently spoke to VladTV about how they met.
Young Thug was the first to comment on the situation and revealed that he and Jerrika initially met at Gucci Mane's studio, but it wasn't until a while later that they actually started dating. The Atlanta emcee seemed completely smitten with his lady, and told fans to look out for an album that he will dedicate completely to Jerrika.
When asked about their recent engagement, Jerrika revealed that Young Thug kept the details under wraps and surprised her with a sweet message on Instagram. The pair even spoke about wedding plans, which Jerrika hopes will be an intimate affair for family and friends.
During the conversation Jerrika and Thugger also spoke about the lower points they've had in their relationship, which he says have sprung up over arguments about girls being in the studio. He made it pretty clear that Jerrika is the only woman he's interested in, and joked about her having trust issues from past relationships.

Philadelphia (CNN) Armed with flashlights, firefighters went from car to car early Wednesday morning, looking for passengers inside an Amtrak train that derailed and tipped over in Philadelphia -- killing at least five.
Another 136 were taken to various hospitals, including six in critical condition, authorities said.
"It is an absolute, disastrous mess," Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter of the crash site. "I've never seen anything like this in my life."
The Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 188 was traveling from Washington to New York when it derailed in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. The impact tore cars apart and left the engine a mangled mess.

The northeast corridor, which spans from Washington to Boston, is the busiest passenger line in the country, and the train was carrying 238 passengers and 5 crew members.
The cause wasn't immediately known.
"We do not know what happened here. We do not know why it happened," Nutter said. There was no indication the derailment was a result of an impact with another train, he said.
So far, there's nothing to indicate the incident was an act of terrorism.
Early Wednesday morning, investigators in orange vests walked up and down the track, especially near a part where it curves.

The area of the crash is known as Frankford Junction. In 1943, it was the site of one of the nation's deadliest train accidents when The Congressional Limited crashed, killing 79 people.
"Until the second of impact, everything was normal," passenger Daniel Wetrin told CNN. "Then it was just chaos."
The moment of impact

Jeremy Wladis was in the very last car, eating.
"The next thing you know, the train starts doing funny things, and it gradually starts getting worse and worse," he said.
Then, things started flying -- phones, laptops. "Then people."
"There were two people in the luggage rack above my head. Two women, catapulted [there]."
Firefighters arrived to find seven cars and the train's engine either turned over or upside down. Most of the passengers were able to escape, climbing out of windows to safety. Crews had to cut through the cars to get to others.

'Please make it stop'
Janna D'Ambrisi was in the second-to-last car, reading her book when she felt the jolt.
"Suddenly it felt like we were going a little too fast around a curve," she said.
The car she was in started to tip and she was thrown onto another girl.
"People started to fall on us," D'Ambrisi said.
"I just held on to her leg and sort of bowed my head and I was kind of praying, 'Please make it stop.'"
Fortunately, her car didn't tip over and she was able to make it out safely.

Determining why
At a news conference around 1 a.m., Mayor Nutter said he couldn't say whether all the passengers had been accounted Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board will arrive at the scene in the morning, and the investigation into what happened will begin.

The deadliest accident in Amtrak's history took place in September 1993, when a tugboat smashed into a river bridge, causing it to collapse as an Amtrak train was passing over. The accident in Mobile, Alabama, killed 47 people.
Amtrak shut down rail service between Philadelphia and New York City Tuesday night. It set up a special number for those seeking information on friends and family aboard the train: 1-800-523-9101.

CNN's Sara Sidner reported from Philadelphia; Saeed Ahmed reported and wrote from Atlanta. CNN's Kevin Conlon, Catherine E. Shoichet, Tony Marco, Janet DiGiacomo, Sam Stringer and Holly Yan contributed to this report.

VladTV caught up with Hollow Da Don before his battle against Charlie Clips at the URL NOME 5 Event where he discussed Jack's hosting job at his battle against Loaded Lux.
The clip starts off with Jack Thriller being asked which battlers he wants to compete against after calling out Hollow Da Don while the Queens emcee walked past him.
The clip continues with Hollow being reluctant to answer any questions after Jack approaches him. When asked about his unwillingness to participate in the interview, the NOME 5 participant explained that it was due to the negative energy he felt Thriller was providing. He also stated that the comedian's unprofessional behavior while hosting his matchup against Loaded Lux last year was another reason for his refusal to answer questions.
Jack and Hollow then began talking about what some would call a lackluster performance by Da Don at his Total Slaughter matchup against Joe Budden. The brief interview came to an end wit Hollow saying he wants to get into comedy.

Gucci Mane is trying to get his act together while in prison. Since he's been locked up a ton of new material has been released. A testament to Guwop's work ethic.
The Atlanta rapper reached out to XXL with a letter to his fans. Check it out below.
I dropped my 1st album Traphouse ten years ago May 2005 I remember being proud and angry the day it was released. I was proud of the work I put in and the quality of the project but I was angry that someone had to be killed over a dispute about the rights to some of the contents of the album. 10 years later I reflect on how that day impacted my life and my legacy and I am grateful for all the fans that supported me then and still support me now. Every challenge and obstacle in my life has helped me to become who I am today and provided me with the tests to display my resilience. I hope my life showed someone somewhere that if you endure the storm you will eventually get your chance to shine. I never give up and I have grown and learned so much and still am eager to learn more. I look forward to showing the world how much I have grown and getting out and helping my community. I have been blessed with the opportunity to be a recording artist and help others get their chance to be heard. To my fans I love you all and I want you all to know I am motivated and will not let my past decide my future. I chose to not focus my attention on my negativities but on my dreams. I will keep on hurdling and keep on hustling. My liabilties I turn to assets and even my inconsistincies make me the unique person I am. I am focused and I will be returning soon very soon so get ready. If I had to change anything in the last 10 years I would not change one thing. Sincerely Guwop!
