PARIS (AP) — U.S. singer Chris Brown and two other people are in custody in Paris after a woman filed a rape complaint, French officials said Tuesday.
The Grammy Award-winning singer was detained Monday on potential charges of aggravated rape and drug infractions and remained in custody Tuesday, a judicial official said. Investigators have another two days to decide whether to let him go or file preliminary charges.
Brown’s publicists at Sony Music would not comment Tuesday on the complaint or say what Brown, 29, was doing in Paris. His U.S. attorney, Mark Geragos, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Brown has been in repeated legal trouble since pleading guilty to the felony assault in 2009 of his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. He completed his probation in that case in 2015, but has continued to have run-ins with police.
The woman who filed the Paris complaint said she met Brown and his friends overnight Jan. 15-16 at the club Le Crystal in the 8th arrondissement near the Champs-Elysees, and then they all went to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel near the Concorde Plaza in central Paris, according to the official.
The Mandarin Oriental would not comment on the investigation, and Le Crystal could not immediately be reached. There was no unusual activity outside either site.
One of Brown’s bodyguards is among the others detained in the Paris investigation, according to the official. They are being held by judicial police in the 17th arrondissement of northwest Paris, the official said.
Neither official was authorized to be publicly named discussing the investigation.
The detention was originally reported by French gossip magazine Closer.
Brown won a Grammy Award in 2011 for best R&B album for “F.A.M.E.” and was repeatedly nominated for other works. He is best-known for hits in the 2000s such as “Run It” and “Kiss Kiss.”
He released a new single earlier this month and has a new album coming this year. Six of his albums have gone platinum.
He retains a hard core of fans, including nearly 50 million followers on Instagram. He posted an Instagram photo Monday from Paris appearing to show him at a nightclub, among several recent posts. Followers responded with mixed messages to the rape accusation.
It’s the latest legal trouble for Brown, who was arrested at the end of a concert last year to face a felony battery charge involving a nightclub photographer.
In 2013, Brown was charged with misdemeanor assault after he was accused of striking a man outside a Washington, D.C., hotel. He was ordered into rehab but was dismissed for violating facility rules. Brown spent 2½ months in custody.
After he completed court-ordered anger-management classes, Brown was accused of throwing a brick at his mother’s car following a counseling session.
After Brown posted a picture to his Instagram followers in January 2018 showing his 3-year-old daughter, Royalty, cuddling with a pet monkey, California fish and wildlife agents seized the capuchin monkey named Fiji from his home in Los Angeles.
Brown was later handed a misdemeanor charge for lacking a permit for the primate. He is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 6 in Los Angeles.

Sparkle stopped by The Breakfast Club this morning and this is how it all went down:
After appearing in “Surviving R Kelly”, Sparkle broke down how she first linked up with the singer. She was introduced to Kelly back in 1989 when a girlfriend introduced her to him, but it wasn’t until 1992 that she actually sang for him, doing background vocals for all of Aaliyah’s first project. At the time though she expressed that there were no signs that he had some type of relationship with Aaliyah or other young girls, especially because Aaliyah’s uncle and other family members were around. Adding on she said that there was no way at the time she believed that he could have been married to R Kelly.
Speaking on if Kelly ever made an advance on her she said nothing ever happened, their relationship was strictly business related also mentioning that there was even a 4 year time period where they didn’t really have any connection. The realization to her that he liked young girls didn’t come about until after the tape surfaced adding on that she wished her family was never introduced to the singer. Before the infamous tape came out she had received calls about her niece being down at the studio with Kelly to often by herself, but her niece's parents were saying it was all good.
When she first saw the tape she immediately turned it off after the first few seconds. Envy then chimed in speaking about how whoever the girl in the tape is now can live her life and no one would ever know who she was because her named was never released, and she never testified in court so she remained a mystery. Sparkle also revealed a lot of her family still doesn’t speak to her because of all of this.

Speaking on putting out new records he said that he's not worried about following up on the success of his last record he just wants to put out songs that are vibes. Duval also addressed what happened with the remix to the song that almost had Will Smith on it saying "I said if Will Smith don't do it I ain't doing no remix".

The boyfriend of Chateri Payne, the rookie Louisiana police officer killed the night of Jan. 9 outsider her home as she prepared to go to work, has been arrested in her murder. Police say Treveon Anderson, 26, Payne's live-in boyfriend and the father of her young daughter, called 911 and "concocted" a story about a mystery gunman shooting Payne as he was inside with their daughter, leading police to launch a manhunt, ABC Newsreports. Two alleged accomplices, Lawrence Pierre, 22, and Glenn Frierson, 38, were also arrested; all three men have been charged with second-degree murder. According to police records obtained by KSLA, Pierre is Anderson's cousin and he admitted to officers he was present at the time of the shooting and led them to the murder weapon.

Report via Variety -- Sony Music has decided to dissolve its working relationship with R. Kelly, Variety has learned.
No external announcement of the move is planned in the immediate future, says a source, who added that the company took its time to wade through the issues “responsibly” and avoid legal ramifications. R. Kelly was removed from the RCA Records website, which lists the label’s signed artists, shortly after 10 a.m. PT on Friday, Jan. 18.
Kelly’s back catalog will remain with RCA/Sony. Kelly’s last release with the label was a Christmas-themed album in 2016, although he has released several songs independently since that time, presumably with Sony’s consent, and Tweeted earlier this year that he has a new album on the way.
Contacted by Variety, reps for both RCA Records and its parent company, Sony Music, declined comment. His current adviser, Don Russell, told Rolling Stone that several record labels are “very interested” in working with Kelly. “We understand RCA’s position: they have to remain transparent for the sake of the other artists that they represent and generate wealth for,” he said. “They’re not in the position of dealing with the kind of stuff that has come about with R. Kelly. He has no issue with RCA. I think he’s outgrown RCA. He’s ready for the next level of life, anyway.” TV journalist Jawn Murray tellsVariety that he learned from a Sony Music source that Kelly was informed of the label’s decision to part ways with him last Thursday.
