The Power spinoff on Starz is adding some more muscle: Method Man is joining the cast of Power Book II: Ghost.
The Grammy-winning rap star and member of Wu-Tang Clan will play lawyer David MacClean, described by Starz as “brilliant, ethically challenged, and with a few secrets of his own Davis is drawn into our world on multiple axes, a world riddled with murder and drugs, where the only thing he’s really addicted to is winning.”
Method Man, or Cliff Smith, joins Mary J. Blige in the spinoff that’s expected to premiere in the summer. Power Book II is expected to live in a similar world depicted in Power, which wraps for good Feb. 9.
Method Man has appeared on HBO’s Oz and The Wire. His other TV credits include CSI, Blue Bloods, The Good Wife, and Burn Notice. He will next co-star on Netflix’s upcoming Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters from Jenji Kohan.

When a Florida teenager could not convince others of her father’s alleged child and animal abuse, the 14-year-old installed security cameras. The result was the arrest of a Panhandle businessman earlier this month, authorities said.
Damon Richard Becnel, 47, of Destin, was arrested Jan. 2, according to Okaloosa County court records. He was charged with one count of child abuse and one count of animal abuse, according to court records.
Becnel posted a $4,000 bond and will appear in court Feb. 4, WEAR-TV reported.
The alleged incidents occurred Dec. 24 at a Destin home, WJHG reported. According to a police report, the victim gave the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office video of the incidents, the television station reported.
In the six-minute video, a man identified by the Sheriff’s Office as Becnel is seen screaming, pointing and headbutting the teen, WEAR reported.
According to the arrest report, the video shows Becnel pulling out a knife and threatening a dog on a bed, yelling, “I will cut this (expletives deleted) dog’s eyeballs out, I’ll (expletive deleted) do it,” the Walton Sun reported.
The video also shows Becnel hitting the dog, grabbing it by the throat and throwing it to the floor, the newspaper reported. When the teen objected, Becnel allegedly grabbed her by the hair and pushed her head toward the bed, where it struck the bed frame, the Sun reported.
The video went viral on social media, but has since been taken down.
The teen’s mother, who does not have custody of the child, said the girl and dogs are now living with Becnel’s best friend, WEAR reported. The woman is trying to have that arrangement changed, the television station reported.
According to Chief Assistant State Attorney William Bishop, Becnel is not allowed to have contact with the victim, WJHG reported.

Cardi B's potential political career is getting a boost from Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, who says she has the perfect background -- and no, he's not referring to "Bodak Yellow."
As you know, Cardi and Bernie have gotten pretty tight. She's obviously fond of him, but it's a two-way street ... because Sen. Sanders told us he's all for getting into politics, as she's recently hinted.
Sanders tells TMZ ... "Cardi B is deeply concerned about what's happening in the country. She knows what it's like to live in poverty and struggle, and it would be great for her to bring that experience to politics."
Cardi's shown an interest in politics for a while now, but as we reported ... she's now saying she's more serious about a run, and soon.
As for her relationship with Bernie, she's been a big supporter of his campaign ever since she interviewed him in a sit-down special last summer. Sanders has said he's a fan of how interested and concerned she is, and now he's going one step further.
So, it begs the question -- is Cardi a potential running mate?

The death of ascending Twin Cities rap performer Lexii Alijai occurred in a downtown Minneapolis hotel room from a suspected drug overdose, according to authorities.
Medical personnel from the fire department were sent to the Loews Hotel late in the morning on New Year's Day on a report that the 21-year-old, whose given name is Alexis Alijai Lynch, was unconscious and possibly suffering cardiac arrest.
The dispatch audio revealed that fire personnel arrived at a seventh-floor room in the hotel across from Target Center and were told moments later that Lynch had overdosed the night before from ingesting Percocet, a powerful painkiller made up of oxycodone and acetaminophen.
Lynch was on the floor and "cold to the touch" as someone in the room was attempting to revive her, according to the incident report. Emergency personnel took over lifesaving procedures, but they soon declared her dead at the scene, the report noted.
"Bystanders stated they had been sleeping, and when they woke up, the patient wouldn't wake up," the report read. "Bystanders stated they weren't sure if [Lynch] had taken anything."
Police spokesman John Elder said Monday that authorities are awaiting toxicology test results from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office as the investigation continues.
However, the Medical Examiner's Office said Monday that it does not intend to issue a news release once the cause and manner of death are determined.
The death spurred an outpouring of grief among Lynch's peers and among some of the bigger names in hip-hop and rap.
"I'm heartbroken, I'm angry, I'm confused, I love you Lexii," one of her best-known musical friends, California R&B singer Kehlani, said in a tweet.
Lynch's mother, Jessica Owen, said her daughter had new releases pending at the time of her death, including one with Wale. Owen said a new album will be come out next month, "tentatively on her birthday."

(CNN) A weekend rash of shootings -- 15, to be exact, five of them fatal -- has left Baltimore residents frightened and angry, and one activist cum City Council candidate says she's tired of leaders paying lip service to violence.
The shootings unfolded in the span of about 40 hours, beginning about 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Tori Rose, who is running for a Council seat in west Baltimore, lost her cousin, Donnell Candy Jr., to gun violence in 2018. On Sunday, she returned to the spot where he was slain to demand change. She posted video of the gathering to her Facebook page.
"We have lost too many, and if City Hall doesn't come get us, if the police commissioners don't have a plan, what are we going to do? We're going to make a plan. If not us, then who?" she asked demonstrators.
Rose isn't the only resident seeking office who has had enough. City Council President Brandon Scott, who is running for mayor, said in a statement that the city should've been celebrating the Baltimore Ravens playoff game Saturday. Instead, residents were left reeling from widespread gun violence in the city.
The trauma of the violence "does not get buried with the victims. It extends to the survivors, families and communities who are left to cope with the aftermath and pick up the pieces. This violence is heartbreaking and must stop now," he said.
Scott will be questioning Police Commissioner Michael Harrison and other city leaders, pressing them on their plans to mitigate the violence in the city, he said.
In a statement, he said, "2020 does not have to wreak the same havoc as 2019. I will not allow it." He pointed to the 348 murders in the city last year, which, according to The Baltimore Sun, was an uptick of more than 13% from the previous year.

Todd Phillips' "Joker" led with 11 nominations overall, including Best Picture, Best Directing and Best Lead Actor.
Following close behind were "1917," "The Irishman" and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" with 10 nominations each.
The star-studded award show, which will take place on Sunday, Feb. 9 on ABC, will be without a host for the second year in a row.

Another bizarre police incident at Antonio Brown's Florida home -- this time, cops responded after a dispute with his baby mama ... and it turned VERY nasty.
We've reached out to cops to find out exactly why they were called to the home -- and who made the call. But, here's what we know so far ...
Several Hollywood Police Dept. officers arrived at Brown's home around 10 AM local time on Monday ... and Brown's baby mama, Chelsie Kyriss, was there too. They have 3 children together.
Brown repeatedly told the officers he had previously evicted her from his home -- but allowed her on the property so she could pick up her kids and take them to school.
But, Brown claims during the handoff, Chelsie tried to steal one of his cars -- and he wasn't having it.
At one point, AB screams at Kyriss ... "Bitch, you don't drive Bentleys. This is not your life."
Brown was shouting to the cops that he wanted her off his property, ASAP -- and screamed insults at her from across the street ... in front of her kids.
The whole situation was super heated, with a very frustrated Brown cussing at the officers -- telling them they don't know how to do their jobs.
During the end of the exchange, Brown grabs a bag of gummy candies (shaped like penises) and throws them into the street in Chelsie's direction ... screaming at her to have a "bag of dicks."
All the while, AB is screaming insults at her ... "Take that fish-looking bitch to jail."
Brown also acknowledges that the stand-off isn't the best look for his NFL future -- but says, "Fuck the NFL. This is real life."

Lori Harvey can't flee from prosecutors -- she's officially been charged in her hit and run case ... TMZ has learned.
According to the L.A. County District Attorney's Office ... Lori's been charged with one count of resisting/delaying/obstructing a peace officer, and one count of hit and run resulting in property damage. Both are misdemeanors.
Steve Harvey's daughter is expected to be arraigned later this month. TMZ broke the story ... she allegedly smashed into another car and tried to leave the scene. Cops ultimately nabbed her when they found her walking down the street a short distance from the accident.
At one point she FaceTimed her dad while dealing with officers. Witnesses told cops they saw Lori texting and driving before crashing into a Prius.
The crash was pretty intense, leaving her G-Wagon flipped on its side -- and it's a miracle no one was seriously hurt.
