Video After The Jump

The issue of skin color is is a constant topic in America amongst amongst all races, but none more so than in the black community where skin tones can range from very light to very dark. Things like who has "good hair" vs nappy hair are often joked about in school. Most of the time it's not until we reach adulthood that we realize how much we are affected by these comparisons.

In the hip hop community we need to look no further than music videos to see that often dark skinned girls are shunned in favor of lighter skinned women. Why is that the case?

Directors Bill Duke and D. Channsin Berry have put together a powerful new documentary titled 'Dark Girls' that takes a look at the "deep-seated biases and attitudes about skin color...particularly dark skinned women, outside of and within the Black American culture."

In the preview we see several women talk about issues, ranging from being picked on in school because of their darker skin color, to problems finding a mate.

Maybe the most heartbreaking scene shows a small girl who is asked to point out the smart, pretty girl on a sheet of paper. She consistently points to the white one as being smart and more attractive, while saying just the opposite about the dark skinned girl.

Check out the preview below, it's certain to make you think.

'Dark Girls' is expected to be released in Fall/Winter 2011.

Video After The Jump

Ja Rule seems to have turned over a new leaf. Perhaps that's what facing a two year prison stretch will do to a man. Whatever the case, in a new interview with The Life Files, the former Murder Inc rapper said he is deading his long running beef with 50 Cent.

It’s resolved now. I’m cool. We ain’t beefing no more,” he said. “We’ll never collaborate. That’s just what it is. You don’t have to be at war with somebody, but it’s also kind of like U.S. and another country that they may not get along with. We don’t gotta go to war, but we’re not friends either. But we can coincide inside of a world. He’s doing him, and he’s not thinking about me, and I’m doing me and I’m not thinking about him.”

Billboard

With a business empire that spans from a record label to a Vitamin Water flavor of his own [Formula 50] to a comedy show, 50 Cent is the kind of mogul that most rappers can only brag about being. The Queens rapper recently made headlines, yet again, when he announced a venture with UberMedia. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson teamed up with UberMedia to launch a customized Twitter theme for their Blackberry Application, UberSocial, titled "Uber50."

Founder and CEO of Violator and Brand Asset Group, and long time manager of 50 Cent, Chris Lighty, shared how the deal came to be with Billboard.com's The Juice, "It was during the period that Uber got locked out of Twitter and got fined. He [50] had to use a different app. He was one of them [going crazy] and one of the more vocal [ones.] Uber saw that and contacted us."

"Uber50" won't be the last time 50's businesses make headlines. 50 is venturing into nutrition yet again, this time with nutritional supplements, "We're working on a new supplement company. We're going to build new supplements cause it's a big opportunity like Vitamin Water was. We want to market and promote it when we put out 50's album. There are different options of penetration for supplements through music; like going to GNC [for] protein shakes, vitamins, [etc.]. No beverage. When you go to a vitamin shop, there's no one of pop culture [representing], it's mostly muscle heads. We'll cut through the clutter with 50 in the store saying, "You want to be 10% of me so take what I'm taking."

With a rekindled love for nutritional products springing from MTV's 'Jersey Shore,' 50 and Lighty couldn't have thought of a supplement deal at a better time. 50 has yet another connection with the 'Jersey Shore', specifically with member, Pauly D. It's been rumored that 50 wants to sign DJ Pauly D to G-Unit for a three-album deal. "That'd be interesting," Lighty says on the rumored Pauly D and 50 Cent collaboration. "It was talked about but we have to see how it all pans out."

While crossing t's and dotting i's on ventures, 50 stays steady in the lab working on his fifth studio album, yet to be titled. 50 and Lighty - who recently launched a site on which artists can submit their music directly to A&Rs handpicked by Lighty titled Please Listen to My Demo - have ideas geared towards the z generation when promoting 50's album. Similar to how Lady Gaga promoted "Born This Way," on FarmVille, Lighty says that both want to use an application of some sort when promoting his forthcoming album. "We're definitely working with Zynga to figure out what we can do inside their system whether it's single related or album related." Lighty says. "[Also], just how can we create our own app itself. In my opinion subscription is the key to our business but [it's] also who figures out [how] we press on the app and gets charged to everyone's phone bill, like when we press on an app and it gets charged to our credit card. As soon as we figure that out as a seamless sale, the music business has a definite new life line."

Change in life is inevitable. Even the best of friends and even business associates can drift apart. That appears to be what happened between Cassidy and super producer Swizz Beatz.

The duo that once had clubs jumping with songs like "I'm A Hustla" are no longer on speaking terms according to Cassidy.

The Hustla vented earlier this week about the situation via twitter, saying he can't get Swizz to answer his calls.

"@THEREALSWIZZZ don't even answer my calls anymore: we ain't speak in over a year: I thought we was fam, but times change, Smh. That's why I changed.. Ain't no love loss.. It is what it is," Cas wrote. "It's never a war, I'm just speaking my mind.. How can we talk if you never pick up, You said you let me do my own thing ASAP, but what does that have to do wit communicating, since I'm doing my own thing you don't talk to me anymore.. Thats crazy."

Before dropping the subject Cassidy said the only reason he even used the social networking site was to communicate with Swizz.

The duo's last hit collaboration was 2007's "My Drink N My Two Step" off of Cassidy's 'B.A.R.S.' album.

The Miami Heat pulled off a dramatic come from behind win in Chicago last night setting up a showdown against the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.

The series will feature Miami's big three Chris Bosh, Lebron James and Dwayne Wade vs the Mavericks's Dirk Nowitski and a solid supporting cast that includes Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion and Jason Kidd.

Dallas would seem to have the edge in overall team depth, but as we saw during their playoff matchups against the Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls, the Heat don't need much more than their trio of all stars.

Game 1 of the best of 7 series will be in Miami on Tuesday, May 31 at 9:00 p.m. ET on ABC.

So who do you like to win the championship?

The Lil Kim vs Nicki Minaj beef has been cooking for months with no end in sight. Both ladies have taken shots at each other on wax and Twitter. Who's winning the war would depend on who you ask, but there's at least one person who would like to see the feud end.

While out in the UK for the Gumball 3000 road rally, Philadelphia rapper Eve spoke with BBC Radio 1xtra host Tim Westwood about the beef and the need for more females in the game.

You know, it's definitely a nice group of females that's out representing, but because I come from hip-hop, I need more females in hip-hop," said Eve. "Nicki definitely is holding the flag down, and a lot of people be wanting me to hate just because that's how girls supposed to do in hip-hop, but I'm loving everything she does. But we need more females, man. There's too much testosterone in the hip-hop game."

When asked directly about the situation currently going on between Kim and Nicki, Eve had this to say.

I need her to stop. If I was Kim's friend, I'd be like, yo. ‘cause she's Kim, period. So she never has to feed [into the beef]. She shouldn't. It's bad. It's not a good look," she said. "If I was her friend, I'd tell her, yo, just come back bigger and better. The best way to get at people is to do you better than you've ever done you. So that's it.”

After a long hiatus Eve has been making her presence felt recently with guest appearances with Ludacris, Alicia Keys and frequent collaborator Swizz Beatz.

It's expected that she will be releasing her fourth solo album 'Lip Lock' sometime this year.

Information from MTV was used in this article.

Video After The Jump

Prior to his federal indictment last week on gun and conspiracy charges, rapper B.G. sat down with Mikey T The Movie Star for an interview. The Chopper City Records CEO talked about a wide variety of subjects, ranging his career status, influencing T.I.'s career, and the possibility of a Hot Boys reunion.

How was it working with T.I. under Grand Hustle?
T.I. was like I was one of the reasons he rapped. He was like 'man I used to be sitting in the trap bumping all your sh*t.' 'Cause I had put out like six solo albums under Cash Money before we even got our deal. So he was like 'man I used to listen to that sh*t.'

Is there going to be a Hot boys album this or next year?
As far as I'm concerned all of us say we ready, all of us say we with it. The whole wanna see it. It's a business move, me and Baby talk all the time. Me and Weezy always been like brothers. Me and Juve don't talk like that, but Turk about to get out. He's been gone about 7 years and six months.

Have you spoken to Turk recently?
Yeah I speak to Turk all the time, and I speak to [Lil] Boosie all the time.

Could you give us any update on Boosie?
I'm not his lawyer so I can't tell you the facts of his case right now, his spirits are up, he aint tripping.

Check the rest of the interview below as B.G. talks about seeing how far Cash Money Records has come since he was on the label, his new mixtape and much more.

Video After The Jump

Whats should have been a normal case of a parent discipling his teen daughter almost turned deadly in Tahuya, Washington.

Police there say a 15-year old girl upset that her father had taken away her cell phone and grounded her, shot him with a compound bow in the torso seriously wounding him. After shooting him she refused to let him use the phone to call 911, forcing him to crawl to a neighbors house for help according to Q13Fox.

The teen then fled into the woods armed with her bow and 35 more arrows.

A SWAT team working with the sheriff's department eventually tracked her down. A detective said the girl was found "to be despondent with a serious medical issue.”

The father had to be airlifted to a local hospital where he underwent surgery to remove the bow. He is said to be in serious condition.

The girl was admitted to a local hospital with an undisclosed ailment. She will be sent to a juvenile detention center when she is released.

This is some trifling stuff right here... SMFH.

Troubled rapper DMX has been granted an early release from prison and will be set free July 1.

Dark Man X has been locked up since last December when he arrested for felony probation violation, after testing positive for cocaine five times between July and November 2010.

At the time of his sentencing Judge Christine Mulleneaux told the rapper she thought mental illness was the cause of his numerous runs ins with the law.

"Your criminal history goes back to 1988. It’s going to continue until you take care of your mental health,” Judge Mulleneaux told the rapper at the time.

Under the terms of his release, X will be under supervised watch until August 12, 2011.

This latest trip to the pen is the 13th for the Yonkers, New York emcee. His maximum prison sentence ends on August 25th according to court records.
