If you're a Jay-Z fan you have heard Young Guru's name shouted out by the rapper many times on records. He is Hov's No. 1 engineer. If anybody knows what Jay has planned musically is would be Guru.
Complex caught up with Guru recently to talk about two projects that are on everyone's minds.
Young Guru
On Jay-Z's upcoming solo album:
"Jay-Z is always working on stuff, it’s a concept that I can’t talk about but I’m marveled at how smart this guy is. When he told me the concept, I was like ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’ It was just so simple. It’s not a concept album though. It’s not like American Gangster, it’s not a Beatles concept album. It has a concept and a title, and the title and the concept fit him so well that people are going to be like ‘Wow.’"
"I like certain writers because it takes me 8,000 paragraphs to get my full point across. When somebody can take what I just said and condense it into two sentences and still have the same effectiveness, that’s a good writer. The simplicity of the title and the concept that it conveys is incredible."
"I can’t tell you the title, it’s so good it’s like, ‘Oh my god why didn’t I think of that? What made you think of that and why haven’t we done that before?’ It’s just staring us in the face all these years, we could’ve been put that out as an album concept."
On the possibility of Watch The Throne 2:
"It's definitely a serious consideration. Hasn’t been underway yet but definitely serious consideration. Has been talked about but hasn’t been executed yet. Definitely could happen. A lot of artists just say sh*t too but if you think about it, this is just my opinion, the way I would like it to go-I would like Kanye to do the G.O.O.D. Music album and Jay-Z to do a solo album then they go out and tour and do all that sh*t and then next year, or the end of the year, we get Watch the Throne 2. To me, that would be the best thing to happen. I think the G.O.O.D. Music album is necessary for Kanye to establish that brand because they need to establish [themselves]."

It's been several weeks since Whitney Houston's death and there still isn't an official cause listed.
TMZ is reporting that the Los Angeles coroner's office is getting calls from members of Houston's family as well as ex-husband Bobby Brown's relatives saying they believe the singer was murdered.
One caller reportedly suggested a theory about a relative who might killed Whitney, but offered no supporting proof.
Despite these calls the coroner has already ruled no foul play was involved, but an official cause of death won't be known until toxicology tests come back.

We've all heard stories about Jay-Z being able to walk into a studio, hear a beat and minutes later spit a hot 16 bars, but some are still skeptical. The thought being how can anyone have such a large number of hits using complex rhyme patterns without writing down the lyrics?
Timbaland has produced some of Hov's biggest songs so he has seen the man work up close on many occasions. However it was during the recording of his own 2001 Timbaland & Magoo album, Indecent Proposal, that he may have been the most impressed by the Brooklyn MC and his ability to spit lyrics only from memory.
Check out what Timbo had to say about Jay-Z on Facebook recently:
food for thought - ya boi Jay-Z always use to come thru the studio when i was workin in nyc. so i said to him one day while he was sittin on the couch, yo i may got somethang for you. he said cool where it at? so i played him the instrumental for "party people" he bop his head said whooo. than after the whoo!! you just saw mumbling almost lookin like he was possess by a something, then 15-20mins later he said "yo i'm ready can i go in the booth" i was like sappy ready for wat? he said "you wanted 16 rite? i said yea if you got it. he said "yeah i got it" the engineer plays the track and this was his 1st take http://youtu.be/P71crMPDd2U.
no stoppin just pausing for the ad-libbing. now mind you i'm sittin there like na no way that had to be written but then i thought how he knew to go off that sound in my beat? he walks out & was like cool? i was dayum rite cool haha. i just look at him like dude you think your good don't you. he just reply wit that famous laugh & said "wat else you got" so i played him this other beat & told him nah fool i cant put you on this one cuz this is for timbaland & magoo he said "then nigga why you play it" i said cause i like to piss you off like dat. i told him i was still workin on my verse he said "play the track" this is no lie he gets up walks to the kitchen grabs something to drink & starts that mumbling again. i'm like why does this fool keep mumblin. then out of no where you hear a loud whoooo from him. i'm like whooo wat. he keeps mumbling after we loop the track for like 30mins. around 45mins he said "can i lay this" i said lay what. he said "lay this verse" i said dummy didn't i just tell you dis is for timbaland and magoo? he said "i know this ain't for me" he goes in & laid a verse that had nuthin to do wit him but something about me. then said on the mic "yo how many verse you said you needed? i was like what the hell is goin on. me & my engineer jimmy dougalus look at each other like wow. so to make a long story short he laid both verses i learned them and gave y'all this: http://youtu.be/R0pB6ItrHFc ("indian carpet").
now go back & listen to the lyrics. just know one of the greatest of all time will forever be Jay-Z. when i get some more time i'll hit y'all wit some crazy justin timberlake stories of us in the studio and why he is one of the greatest also.
Where does Jay-Z rank in your list of top MC's after reading what Timbaland has to say about him?
Back in January we reported on a story about blogger Donovan Strain of Murk Avenue's attempt to decipher the exact date Ice Cube rapped about in his classic song "It Was A Good Day."
Strain used six clues centered around the song's lyrics and came up with January 20, 1992 as the date.
Mike Ryan of The Huffington Post caught up with Cube recently to find out if that date was accurate.
Huffington Post: Someone spent a lot of time trying to figure out your good day from "It Was a Good Day." Ice Cube: Yeah, I heard about that one. Yeah.
Through your publicist, you responded, "Nice try." Yeah.
"Nice try," you got it right? Or "Nice try," but not even close? "Nice try" on even trying to dissect that.
The original research shows that it's Jan 20, 1992. Someone else thinks it's Nov 30, 1988. I think I had a good day on both of those days. You know.
Is this your Carly Simon, "You're So Vain," song? That you'll never admit when it was? Then you'll auction the answer off some day to one guy who, under contract, can't reveal the day? Nah. You know -- it's a song. It's a fictional song. It's basically my interpretation of what a great day would be. Do you know what I'm saying? So, you know, it's a little of this and a little of that. I don't think you can pinpoint the day.
So you're saying it's a collection of good things from multiple days? It could have been all of those days.
So it's a conglomerate of your perfect day? Yes.
So there you have it, but shouts out to Donovan for even trying to figure it out in the first place.
After a four year break between albums Brandy is ready to release her next project.
The singer's new album entitled "Two Eleven" is set to drop in June 2012. The title of the disc represents her birth date, February 11th.
“It’s just gonna be a different album, but of course expressing the love that I feel now and the struggles and different situations that I’ve gone through in the past,” Brandy told Rap-Up TV. “My music always tends to be the soundtrack to my life and definitely inspired by what I see other people go through as well—gritty, edgy, different.”
The album will have features from Frank Ocean, Chris Brown and Monica.
