Dallas (WFAA) -- A former NBA and Texas Tech basketball player was shot and killed early Monday morning in Old East Dallas.

A passerby found Andre Emmett, 37, wounded on North Prairie Avenue and called police around 2:30 a.m., Dallas police say.

He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

According to police, witnesses told investigators that Emmett was sitting in his car outside a residence in the 1800 block of North Prairie Avenue when two men approached his vehicle.

An argument ensued and one of the men pulled out a gun. Emmett was shot as he ran from the men, police said.

Witnesses told police the two men fled the scene in a white Chrysler 300.

Emmett was born on Aug. 27, 1982 in Dallas and went on to play basketball at Carter High School.

From 2000 to 2004, he attended Texas Tech University, where he played basketball with Bob Knight as his coach for three of four seasons. He remains the university's second all-time scorer and was named All-American his senior year.

In 2004, he was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics as a 35th overall pick in the NBA draft. He was later traded to the Memphis Grizzlies and went on to play for the New Jersey Nets.

He also played for several NBA developmental league teams, including in 2006 with the Dallas Mavericks for the Las Vegas Summer League.

In 2018, Emmett was the second overall pick in the 2018 BIG3 league, a 3-on-3 basketball league founded by rapper and actor Ice Cube. He was entering his second season with the league when he was killed.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Florida police officer has been suspended as he is investigated for arresting a 6-year-old and an 8-year-old for separate incidents at their schools.

Orlando television station WKMG reported Sunday that Officer Dennis Turner has been suspended pending the outcome of an internal investigation by the Orlando Police Department.

The department’s policy requires an officer to get the approval of a watch commander for the arrest of someone under age 12.

WKMG says that didn’t happen during last Thursday’s arrests.

The 8-year-old was processed at the Juvenile Assessment Center before being released to a family member. The child’s gender wasn’t released, nor was the reason for the arrest.

The 6-year-old girl was returned to her school, and not processed, after a transport officer found out approval wasn’t obtained.

Report via TMZ -- Sid Haig, best known as Captain Spaulding in Rob Zombie's "House of 1000 Corpses" trilogy -- has died.

The horror icon's wife, Suzie, shared the news Monday on Sid's own social media account, writing ... "On Saturday, September 21, 2019, my light, my heart, my true love, my King, the other half of my soul, Sidney, passed from this realm on to the next."

She went on to say, "He has returned to the Universe, a shining star in her heavens. He was my angel, my husband, my best friend and always will be." Suzie added, "He adored his family, his friends and his fans. This came as a shock to all of us. We, as a family, are asking that our privacy and time to mourn be respected."

Sid had recently been hospitalized and transferred to the ICU after he was involved in some sort of accident -- this per screenshots of his IG account, which was apparently run by his wife. On Sept. 6, she was asking for prayers.

Sid's rep would only tell TMZ that the accident was something that took place at his home.

The exact circumstances of his death remain a mystery, but the outpouring of love from the horror community has been overwhelming -- including from Rob Zombie himself, who shared a brief remembrance of his longtime collaborator.

Sid has starred as the patriarch of the Firefly family in "House of 1000 Corpses," "The Devil's Rejects" and most recently, "3 From Hell," which just hit theaters last week.

Aside from acting in Rob's films, he also starred in several other horror flicks over his 50-plus-year career, including roles in "Bone Tomahawk," "Hatchet III," "The Lords of Salem," "Devil in My Ride," "Night of the Living Dead 3D," and tons of other films.

He also starred on TV shows like "MacGyver," "The Fall Guy," "Jason of Star Command," "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman," "Mission: Impossible," "Get Smart," "Gunsmoke," "Star Trek," "The Lucy Show," "The Six Million Dollar Man," and countless others.

Sid had 149 acting credits to his name, and was considered a fixture in the cult horror genre. We last talked to him in 2017, he was catching us up on projects he was working on at the time -- saying he had 4 projects in the can. Dude clearly stayed busy.

He's survived by his wife, Suzie. Sid was 80.

Steven Weber and Kenesha Antoine were on vacation together.

Weber swam underwater and held a note inside a plastic bag up against a window.

He never came up.

Authorities are investigating exactly how he drowned.

Antoine shared her emotions on Facebook.

You never emerged from those depths, so you never got to hear my answer, “Yes! Yes! A million times, yes, I will marry you!!” she wrote. “We never got to embrace and celebrate the beginning of the rest of our lives together, as the best day of our lives turned into the worst, in the cruelest twist of fate imaginable.”

In this clip, Godfrey and Vlad debate about the Michael Jackson molestation allegations and found common ground on the notion that the King of Pop had no business hanging out with young children. Godfrey said he firmly believes that the molestation allegations came about to stifle Michael Jackson from gaining more power in the entertainment industry.

Report via NBC -- Antonio Brown, the star wide receiver who was released after one game with the New England Patriots amid sexual assault allegations, said Sunday that he will no longer be playing in the NFL.

"These owners can cancel deals do whatever they want at anytime," Brown said in a post on Twitter Sunday morning.

The Patriots were the second team to release Brown this month after the Oakland Raiders cut his dramatic stint in California short before the season. Brown signed with the Raiders following an acrimonious split with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After New England signed him, Brown was accused of sexually assaulting his former trainer, according to a lawsuit she filed. His lawyers have denied all allegations stemming from the lawsuit.

Shortly after the announcement that he was leaving the NFL, Brown tweeted about other figures within the league who faced sexual misconduct allegations, broadcaster and former Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe and his former quarterback in Pittsburgh, Ben Roethlisberger. He also took a shot at Patriots owner Robert Kraft for being charged with soliciting prostitution at a Florida spa.

Brown has since deleted the tweets about Sharpe, Roethlisberger and Kraft.

Sports Illustrated reported last week that Brown allegedly sent "intimidating" text messages to a second woman who has also accused him of unwanted sexual advances.

He called this woman "super broke" and threatened to "look up her background," according to her lawyers, who sent copies of the text messages to NFL offices and the Patriots on Thursday.

The NFL said in a statement Friday that, "Our office is presently investigating multiple allegations, some of which are the subject of pending litigation. We have as yet made no findings regarding these issues."

The league said that as Brown is currently an unrestricted free agent, and placement on the "Commissioner's exempt list" — in essence being placed on paid leave — was not appropriate at this time.

It's unclear how Brown's announcement Sunday will impact the NFL's investigations.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Two suspects have been taken into custody in connection with a deadly shooting that happened earlier this year in Savannah.

On May 19 at around 2:50 a.m., officers responded to Interstate 16 at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in reference to an injured person. When they arrived, they found 33-year-old Dorian Brooks dead from gunshot wounds.

Rapper Baby Soulja, real name Charles Doles, 25, and Adrian Dove, 48, were identified as suspects in the case. The Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) was asked to help find the two.

Officials learned that Dove was in the New York area, and he was taken into custody by the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force on Sept. 3 in Ithaca, New York.

SERFTF worked with the Gulf Coast Regional Task Force to find out Doles’ location. He was taken into custody on Sept. 18 by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia.

Doles has a warrant for murder and Dove faces a charge of party to a crime. Both are awaiting extradition to the Chatham County Detention Center.

“The collaborative work between our detectives, SERFTF and our federal and outside agencies proved to be efficient, effective and successful,” Roy Minter, SPD Chief of Police stated. “I am proud of the outstanding work from our detectives and the dedication from the multiple task forces that assisted us with this case. Due to their work, the family of this victim finally has the closure they deserve.
