An American concert promoter is lucky to be alive after being kidnapped at gunpoint by goons in the Republic of Angola because Nas failed to show for a concert there.

According to TMZ, Nas and opening act Jemiah Jai were paid $315,000 to perform two shows on New Year's Eve, but both failed to board their flights in time to perform at the scheduled events.

In an attempt to regain his money, local "concert impresario" Henrique 'Riquhino' Miguel sent armed men to kidnap AllGood Entertainment CEO Patrick Allocco and his son to prevent them from leaving the country. The pair were then handed over to local authorities who interrogated for seven hours before the U.S. Embassy there stepped in to get them released.

A rep for the U.S. Embassy confirmed to TMZ that Alloco and his son were "in residence" at a local hotel until the dispute could be worked out.

Alloco's rep released the following statement:

"The hope is that Nas and Jemiah Jai will return all of the monies that were wired to them immediately so that our ransom may be paid and our safe return to the United States may be facilitated."

So far neither Nas or Jemiah have responded.

**UPDATE**

Nas' reps have reached out to TMZ to explain their side of the story and to let everyone know they will cut the check to get American promoter Patrick Allocco back home safely.

The rapper's team said he did plan on performing in Angola on New Year's Eve, but a miscommunication about the travel plans derailed the performance.  According to Nas' reps he never intended to keep the money, but isn't sure where to send the check back to. A solution is reportedly being worked on.

"The key is getting Patrick Allocco home safely," said a source.

Nick Cannon is in the hospital this morning recovering from mild kidney failure.

The entertainer's wife, Mariah Carey tweeted the news along with with a photo of her and Cannon in a hospital bed.

"Please pray for Nick as he's fighting to recover from a mild kidney failure. #mybraveman," she wrote.

The couple were vacationing with their twins, Monroe and Moroccan in Aspen, Colorado when Cannon fell ill. Carey also took to her website to go into more detail and ask for prayers for her husband..

This is us in the hospital - role reversal; Last year it was me attached to the machines (after having dembabies) and Nick was there with me through it, and now here we are.

We're trying to be as festive as possible under the circumstances but please keep Nick in your thoughts because this is very painful. They tried to kick me out of the hospital but here I am pon de bed with Mr. C.

We're doing OK but we're "straaaaaanded in Aspen". #DramaticDivaPlace (I know, we could be in a lot worse places) but the truth is as long as we're together, we're OK. I'm not trying to make light out of the situation because it's a serious moment that's very tough on all of us so please keep us and our family in your prayers. LYM.

The-Dream can take his time between recording his own projects because he's filthy rich from writing hit records for other artists.

He's penned hits for Beyonce, J. Holiday, Usher and Mariah Carey. One of his biggest hits to date is Rihanna's "Umbrella" and he was paid quite well for it. He told Radio 1Xtra host Tim Westwood he banked $15 million dollars for the record. A very hefty sum that helps him pay large amounts of child support to Nivea, with whom he has three kids and Christina Milian, the mother of one of his kids.

Check out his interview below where he talks about getting along with former wives Nivea and Christina as well as writing Justin Bieber's big hit "Baby."

There have been previous reports that Eazy E's son, Lil Eazy was being considered for the role of his father in an upcoming NWA biopic "Straight Outta Compton." Eazy's daughter Erin Bria Wright, also threw her hat in the ring for the role, saying it shouldn't automatically go to her brother.

"I feel the role of my dad in a biopic should “Not” just be a “given” to my brother Lil Eazy solely on the strength that he is my father’s junior! To be honest my father has four sons total who all resemble him in their own way, just as I have an uncanny resemblance to my father and I am a girl," Bria wrote back in October 2011. "I think my brother should have to audition and earn the role by delivering a great read instead of just being handed the role—and I’d like to add that I feel I should have that same opportunity to audition for the role as well, and be given equal consideration based on my acting ability and not just my relation. I have dreamed of getting this role for many years now, as I have always been inspired by how Hilary Swank played a boy in “Boys Don’t Cry,” which I’ve referenced in a past AllHipHop.com interview in 2007."

While it's highly doubtful that Erin will get the part, it has been confirmed by Dr. Dre himself that the children of the legendary rap group will get a shot at portraying their fathers in the upcoming film.

"We're talking about it ... we'll see what happens," Dre told TMZ when they caught up with him recently.

Do you think it's a good idea for the kids of Eazy, Dre and Ice Cube to play their famous fathers in the movie or should they consider professional actors instead?

For the last year 50 Cent has attempted to get on the same page with the powers that be over at Interscope Records. Yesterday (January 2) his frustration with the label reached a boiling point.

In a series of tweets sent out to his 5.4 million followers, Fif expressed extreme disappointment with the whole situation.

"I have lost all the faith in the team I'm on. I having nothing left to say I will not be promoting my music," 50 wrote. "I'm going to deliver this album then. I have a film I wrote to focus on I'm not upset I'm just convinced this is not how I want to remembered. Ill be honest I don't think I'm gonna live much longer. That's why I started my street king movement. I want to mean more in other peoples lives."

Some people mistakenly took his comments about death as an indication that he was in a dark space mentally, but he quickly clarified the statement.

"To be conscious that life is short is not suicidal. I'm good if I die tonight I've taken care of the people who took care of me when I couldn't take care myself," he continued.

50 proved to any naysayers with his street album, The Big 10, that he can still deliver hit records with the best of them. Every video released from the project has soared to more than a million youtube hits. The clip for "Put Your Hands Up" is nearing 4 million views in less than one week.

All of this was done without the help of a label. 50 says that at this point in his career he wants to protect his legacy and inspire others.

Let's hope Interscope gets their act together and works with 50 to properly deliver his fifth studio album because the rap game really needs the G-Unit boss.

Jim Jones is about to be a married man.

The Dipset Capo proposed to longtime girlfriend Chrissy Lampkin on last night's episode of 'Love and Hip Hop.'

Jim surprised Chrissy when he showed up in Miami while she was having dinner with other cast members and asked her if she could step away and talk to him. Chrissy initially thought he was upset with her about something until he stood and pulled a box containing a diamond ring out of his pocket.

"I got that information for you," Jimmy said before asking her to marry him. Chrissy immediately said yes.

The fact that my Jimmy knew that it was the right time to do things, its priceless,” Chrissy told viewers while fighting back tears.

Congrats to Capo and Chrissy!

Dennis Rodman is making a basketball comeback, just not in the way you might have expected. The 50-year old retired NBA Hall of Fame player has teamed with Headquarters Gentlemen’s Club in New York to form a topless women's team according to the New York Post.

I don’t know too many men that don’t like a good-looking woman running up and down around the court,” Rodman told the Post.

"The Worm" got the idea after Rick's Cabaret teamed with former NBA player Spud Webb to form Rick’s Basketball Association during the NBA lockout last year. There were teams in several cities, but the league disbanded once the NBA players and owners ended their lockout.

We stepped aside when the NBA returned,” said a Rick’s spokesman, who added, “We love Dennis . . . His regular table at Rick’s Cabaret is available. We wish Dennis well in coaching another team, but if the RBA was still in existence, we would have made Dennis our commissioner.

Rodman will be auditioning players at Headquarters starting next week. Other than a height requirement of 5'10, no real experience is needed according to the former Chicago Bull.

You don’t have to have too much experience, just know how to throw the ball into the hole,” said Rodman, who added, “They’ll come out in a T-shirt or a tank top, but when the game starts, they’ll go topless."

Rodman said he hopes to challenge Rick's to a charity game.
