London Times Reports Miss England has been forced to relinquish her crown after an alleged duel with a rival beauty queen over a TV Gladiator. Rachel Christie, niece of Olympic gold medallist Linford Christie, stepped down after being accused of punching Miss Manchester, Sara Beverley Jones, 24, in the face during a night out at a nightclub. Trouble allegedly flared after Miss Jones showed Miss Christie a message on her phone claiming that it was sent to her by Miss Christie’s boyfriend, David McIntosh, who appears as Tornado in the Sky One television show Gladiators.

Tornado Miss Jones, who was dressed as a cavewoman, was taken to hospital, where she was treated for “superficial facial injuries”. Miss Christie, 21, was arrested on suspicion of assault and released on bail pending a hearing in January. The model and athlete, who hopes to win a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in the heptathlon, has also quit the race to become Miss World to concentrate on clearing her name. Last night a statement on the Miss England website read: “Due to the media attention following the allegations against her, Rachel Christie has now decided to withdraw from the Miss World competition and relinquish her Miss England crown. Rachel will concentrate on clearing her name and focus on training for the 2012 Olympics until this case is resolved.” Miss Christie, who was dressed as an angel at the time of the alleged fracas, had been due to leave for the Miss World contest in South Africa next Tuesday. Police were called to the Mansion club in Manchester shortly before 1am on Monday.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “It is believed that, earlier that night, a 24-year-old woman got into an altercation with another woman in the club and was hit in the face several times. “The victim was taken to Hope Hospital, where she received treatment for superficial facial injuries. She has now been discharged.” It is believed that Mr McIntosh, a 15st former Royal Marine, is a former boyfriend of Miss Manchester. Miss Christie was the first black woman to be crowned Miss England. When she won the title in July, she pledged to be a role model for black youth. “One of my reasons for doing Miss England in the first place was because I wanted to show people, the younger generation especially, that you can do something positive with your life,” Miss Christie had said, adding that she had turned to modelling to fund her training.

“Whoever you are, you can be who you want and whatever you want.” Her father, Russell, had been a promising athlete but was arrested for theft and stabbed to death during a drugs-related dispute in 1996. Four years earlier, he had been jailed for attacking a former lover. Mr McIntosh cites Rambo as his greatest inspiration and says he likes to “chill out with a cup of green tea” in preparation for his television battles. Miss Christie has been replaced as Miss England by Lance Corporal Katrina Hodge, who came second in the pageant. Miss Hodge, 22, who was awarded a commendation from her unit, the 1st Batallion, Royal Anglian Regiment, for her actions during a posting in 2005 in Basra, has been given leave from her duties as a soldier to appear in the Miss World final.

NY Daily News Reports The hero cop who ended the bloody rampage at Fort Hood had been directing traffic moments before she confronted the gunman and pumped four bullets into him despite being shot herself. Civilian police Sgt. Kimberly Munley and her partner responded within three minutes of reported gunfire Thursday afternoon, Lt. Gen. Bob Cone said Friday. Munley, who had been trained in active-response tactics, rushed into the building and confronted the shooter as he was turning a corner, Cone said. "It was an amazing and an aggressive performance by this police officer," Cone said. Munley was only a few feet from crazed Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan when she opened fire. Wounded in the exchange of gunfire, Munley was reported in stable condition at a local hospital. The hero cop spent Thursday night phoning fellow officers to let them know she was fine and to find out about casualties in the attack - the deadliest ever on a military base in the U.S., Cone said. Cone said Munley's aggressive response training taught her that "if you act aggressively to take out a shooter you will have less fatalities." "She walked up and engaged him," he said. He praised her as "one of our most impressive young police officers."

Guardian UK Reports October is Black History Month in Britain – a wonderful celebration of the huge, important and valuable contribution that black people have made to humanity and to popular culture. It is also worth celebrating that many leading black icons have been lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT), most notably the US black liberation hero Malcolm X. Other prominent black LGBTs include jazz singer Billie Holiday, author and civil rights activist James Baldwin, soul singer-songwriter Luther Vandross, blues singer Bessie Smith, poet and short story writer Langston Hughes, singer Johnny Mathis, novelist Alice Walker, civil rights activist and organiser of the 1963 March on Washington Bayard Rustin, blues singer Ma Rainey, dancer and choreographer Alvin Ailey, actress, singer and dancer Josephine Baker, Olympic diving gold medallist Greg Louganis, singer and songwriter Little Richard, political activist and philosopher Angela Davis, singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman and drag performer and singer RuPaul. Few of these prominent black LGBT achievers are listed on the most comprehensive UK Black History Month website, which hosts biographies of notable black men and women. In the section on people, only Davis is mentioned and her lesbianism is not acknowledged. The website fails to identify the vast majority of black public and historical figures who are LGBT. The Official Guide to Black History Month UK is equally remiss. Why these omissions? Black people are not one homogenous heterosexual mass. Where is the recognition of sexual diversity within the black communities and black history? In contrast, LGBT History Month, which takes place in the UK in February, devotes a whole section of its website to the lives of leading black LGBT people and links to the websites for Black History Month. Disappointingly, this solidarity is not reciprocated. On the Black History Month websites I could not find a LGBT section or a LGBT History Month link. Perhaps it is unintentional but Black History Month sometimes feels like Straight Black History Month. Famous black LGBT people are not acknowledged and celebrated. Either their contribution to black history and culture is ignored or their sexuality is airbrushed out of their biographies. A good example of this neglect is the denialism surrounding the bisexuality of one of the greatest modern black liberation heroes: Malcolm X. The lack of recognition is perhaps not surprising, given that some of his family and many black activists have made strenuous efforts to deny his same-sex relationships and suppress recognition of the full spectrum of his sexuality. Why the cover-up? So what if Malcolm X was bisexual? Does this diminish his reputation and achievements? Of course not. Whether he was gay, straight or bisexual should not matter. His stature remains, regardless of his sexual orientation. Yet many of the people who revere him seem reluctant to accept that their hero, and mine, was bisexual. Malcolm X's bisexuality is more than just a question of truth and historical fact. There has never been any black person of similar global prominence and recognition who has been publicly known to be gay or bisexual. Young black lesbian, gay and bisexual people can, like their white counterparts, often feel isolated, guilty and insecure about their sexuality. They could benefit from positive, high-achieving role models, to give them confidence and inspiration. Who better than Malcolm X? He inspired my human rights activism and was a trailblazer in the black freedom struggle. He can inspire other LGBT people too. Right now, there is not a single living black person who is a worldwide household name and who is also openly gay. That's why the issue of Malcolm X's sexuality is so important. Having an internationally renowned gay or bisexual black icon would do much to help challenge homophobia, especially in the black communities and particularly in Africa and the Caribbean where homosexuality and bisexuality are often dismissed as a "white man's disease". So what is the evidence for Malcolm X's bisexual orientation? Most people remember him as the foremost US black nationalist leader of the 1960s. Despite the downsides of his anti-white rhetoric, black separatism and religious superstition, he was America's leading spokesperson for black consciousness, pride and self-help. He spoke with fierce eloquence and defiance for black upliftment and freedom. Malcolm's complex, changing sexuality was never part of the narrative of his life until the publication of Bruce Perry's acclaimed biography, Malcolm – The Life of a Man Who Changed Black America. Perry is a great admirer and defender of Malcolm X, but not an uncritical one. He wrote the facts, based on interviews with over 420 people who knew Malcolm personally at various stages in his life, from childhood to his tragic assassination in 1965. His book is not a hatchet job, as some black critics claim, it is the exact opposite. Perry presents an honest, rounded story of Malcolm's life and achievements which, in my opinion, is far more moving and humane than the better known but somewhat hagiographic The Autobiography of Malcolm X: As Told To Alex Haley. Based on interviews with Malcolm's closest boyhood and adult friends, Perry suggests the US black liberation leader was not as solidly heterosexual as his Nation of Islam colleagues and black nationalist acolytes have always claimed. While Perry did not make Malcolm's sexuality a big part of his biography – in fact, it is a very minor aspect – he did not shy away from writing about what he heard in his many interviews. He documents Malcolm's many same-sex relations and his activities as a male sex worker, which spanned at least a 10-year period, from his mid-teens to his 20s, as I described in some detail in a previous article for the Guardian. Although Malcolm later married and, as far as we know, abandoned sex with men, his earlier same-sex relations suggest that he was bisexual rather than heterosexual. Abstaining from gay sex after his marriage does not change the fundamentals of his sexual orientation and does not mean that he was wholly straight. Towards the end of his life, Malcolm's ideas were evolving in new directions. Politically, he gravitated leftwards. Faith-wise, after his trip to Mecca, he began to embrace a non-racial mainstream Islam. His mind was becoming open to new ideas and values. Had he not been murdered in 1965, Malcolm might have eventually, like Huey Newton of the Black Panthers and the black power leader Angela Davis, embraced the lesbian and gay liberation movement as part of the struggle for human emancipation. Instead, to serve their homophobic political agenda, for over half a century the Nation of Islam and many black nationalists have suppressed knowledge of Malcolm's same-sex relations. It is now time for Black History Month to speak the truth. Malcolm X was bisexual. Get over it.

Video After The Jump FoxNews.com Reports RIO DE JANEIRO — A Brazilian bricklayer reportedly killed in a car crash shocked his mourning family by showing up alive at his funeral. Relatives of Ademir Jorge Goncalves, 59, had identified him as the victim of a Sunday night car crash in Parana state in southern Brazil, police said. As is customary in Brazil, the funeral was held the following day, which happened to be the holiday of Finados, when Brazilians visit cemeteries to honor the dead. What family members didn't know was that Goncalves had spent the night at a truck stop talking with friends over drinks of a sugarcane liquor known as cachaca, his niece Rosa Sampaio told the O Globo newspaper. He did not get word about his own funeral until it was already happening Monday morning. A police spokesman in the town of Santo Antonio da Platina said Goncalves rushed to the funeral to let family members know he was not dead. "The corpse was badly disfigured, but dressed in similar clothing," said the police spokesman, who talked on condition of anonymity as he wasn't authorized to discuss the case. "People are afraid to look for very long when they identify bodies, and I think that is what happened in this case." Sampaio told O Globo that some family members were not sure the body was Goncalves. "My two uncles and I had doubts about the identification," she told O Globo. "But an aunt and four of his friends identified the body, so what were we to do? We went ahead with the funeral." The police spokesman confirmed there were doubts: "His mom looked at the body in the casket and thought something was strange. She looked and looked and couldn't believe it was her son," Sampaio said. "Before long, the walking dead appeared at the funeral. It was a relief." The body was correctly identified later Monday, the police spokesman said, and has already been buried in another state. He declined to release the actual victim's name.

AllHipHop Reports DMX’s career as a boxer has ended before it even began, as the rapper has pulled out of an upcoming boxing match, sources have told AllHipHop.com. DMX was scheduled to square off against New Mexico based fighter Eric Martinez on December 12 in Alabama, during an event sponsored by Thunder Promotions. One source said DMX pulled out of the fight because his safety could not be guaranteed, while another claimed that the rapper backed out because Thunder Promotions refused his request to "fix" the fight. Sources stated that Thunder Promotions may pursue legal action against DMX. In the meantime, a variety of popular rappers have been contacted to stand up to Eric Martinez during the fight. A replacement for DMX will be announced as early as next week. In late October, DMX called into Washington’s 106.7 to talk about the bout. He stated that he had no plans to train for the fight and appeared to take the challenge against Martinez lightly. "I’m a just walk in as is. It wouldn’t be fair if I trained,” DMX said and later said: "I aint trying to have my face all messed up."

AllHipHop Reports After announcing in 2008 the creation of Better Black Television (BBTV), entrepreneur P.Miller has been hard at work getting the fledgling network off the ground. As chairman and CEO, Miller has promised to debut a network the covers the full spectrum of the African-American experience in news, politics, movies, teen/children’s educational programming, animation, and sports. When asked whether BBTV was a response to the complaints leveled at networks such as BET, Miller explained that his project is more so about creating a new, distinct message. “I don't think it's a response, but it fills a void,” Miller told AllHipHop.com. “You look at The Cosby Show and that was funny and entertaining but also educational and uplifting. It sent a message that probably sparked a lot of black doctors and lawyers now. That's what I want to offer with BBTV. It's going to show people where the future is going because a lot of us don't want to die gangbangers in the hood. Some of us do want to get older and be around to raise their kids.” Creating a new network is a slow, meticulous process that Miller has spent the last 8 years refining. During that span, the New Orleans mogul studied the industry and made the necessary alliances to move his vision forward. Today, the advisory board for BBTV includes Oscar winner Denzel Washington, NAACP executive director Vicangelo Bullock, Hip-Hop founder Kool Herc, cable industry veteran Professor Sal Martino, and real estate mogul Curtis Oakes. Now, Miller details his biggest challenge is formulating programming devoid of stereotypes, particularly in the representation of Hip-Hop culture. “[The biggest challenge is] to be able to make a diverse product and knowing that you need something that the churches and other cultures can feel good about so you don't just stereotype your product to where it's just all African Americans,” Miller stated. “To me, Hip-Hop is all cultures now, but it's also being able to service the corporations and make good shows that sponsors want to be involved in. At the same time, I want to make stuff that the Hip-Hop culture feels proud about and doesn't feel like it's selling out.” At press time, P.Miller has set BBTV to launch in 2010. HipHopWired Reports The realm of Hip-Hop has always been see as a man's game. Although there have been prominent voices such as MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, Eve and many others, the game has always been more geared towards those with testosterone. With female rappers AWOL, Young Money's Nicki Minaj is the only one that can stand in the spotlight to represent, but doing it by herself has opened her up to criticism on her actual rapping ability. Minaj was also the only female rapper that seemed brave enough to step up with the big boys when she appeared in the Cypher for the BET Hip-Hop Awards this year alongside rappers such as Joe Budden and Buckshot. The life of a female in rap has become more about politics and less about their skills in the craft and Nicki has been under fire as to whether or not she crafts her own work or simply has Lil Wayne write it for her. “I write my own raps; I do everything on my own, so what makes you say that?” During an interview with T.T. Torrez, the rapper spoke on the difference between men and women in the industry and how ignorance causes barriers. “Women are held to different standards. I mean that's just the way it is. I always say ‘Nobody tells 50 and Wayne anything when they're taking their shirts off every night'. You could say that's selling sex; that's selling sex appeal. I respect Wayne and 50 very much, but if a girl comes out in a cute little outfit showing some boobs, she's not a real rapper.” With critics questioning her verse during the Cypher, Minaj clears the air on the reality of her verse and most that participated. “How many people in that Cypher do you think spit that off of their head? See, that's another thing and I'm glad you brought that up. Yes, I didn't spit that off the top of my head. I can't come up with those punch-lines, metaphors off the top of my head. Everybody else, besides KRS-One, who else can you name that freestyled off the top of his head.” She also relieved some weight from her shoulders as she added that her lyrics are molded together by no one but her. “They will tear apart a female like, ‘Oh, she did a good verse, but she wrote it'. The only thing that matters is that I wrote it on a paper and memorized it. I don't need a dude to write my shit. Wayne never wrote my shit. No one writes my stuff because it's in here. It's not about what you have down here [points to crotch] that makes you intelligent enough to write a rap and I think that's so corny.” Women are still struggling to garner respect in the game, although it is hard to refuse something that is apparent. How can women ever steer young girls in the right direction if they are constantly put under the microscope and have to fight so hard just to get into the front door?

AllHipHop Reports Ace Capone, the CEO of a Philadelphia-based Hip-Hop label who was convicted under Pennsylvania’s “Kingpin” law is now planning a “novel,” sources revealed to AllHipHop.com. Ace Capone, born Alton Coles, was sentenced to life in prison last April, for his role in running a $25 million dollar drug ring in Philadelphia, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. Capone used his label Take Down Records to collaborate with major Philadelphia artists like Gillie Da Kid, Freeway and Beanie Sigel. The label was also a front for the drug ring, which moved over two tons of cocaine and a half-ton of crack between 1997 and 2005. Sources told AllHipHop.com that Ace Capone, who is currently being held in a federal prison in Kentucky, is planning to release a book titled Cocaine Gang. In his trial, prosecutors used a DVD Ace Capone and Take Down Records released titled New Jack City: The Next Generation to convict him. Prosecutors argued that the DVD was an actual account of Capone’s attempt to muscle in on Philadelphia’s drug trade. Coles was convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, heading a continuing criminal enterprise that engaged in drug trafficking, conspiracy, wire fraud, money laundering and weapons offenses.
