Already a legend in his state, Birmingham J (Jamal Thomas) has already earned his place as southern rap royalty. Coming from a family full of vocalists, he wrote his first rhymes at the early age of 10. A young Birmingham J saw music as an outlet to vent and tell his story during a rough childhood. A few artists that influenced him to pursue music as a career include Rakim & Eric B, N.W.A, Geto Boys, and Tupac.
Fast forward years later and Birmingham J is featured in Ozone, The Source, Murder Dog, and XXL magazines. In 2005 his smash single “Move Back” was a regional hit and garnered the attention of Columbia and Jive records. His two albums ”Da Neighborhood Superstar” and ”Still a Star” enjoyed phenomenal independent sales, while he charted six times on Billboard top 100. His collaborations read like a list of ‘Who’s Who’ in southern hip-hop: Lil Jon, Young Bloodz, Bun B, T-Pain, and Rich Boy to name a few. He’s probably your favorite southern rapper’s favorite rapper. So why hasn’t success come as easily for him as it has for some other southern artists?
Some people think that the name ‘Birmingham J’ limited his ability to break nationally and condemned him to have only local success. His replay to those people is a quick ”You’ve heard of Memphis Bleek right?” Birmingham J makes it known that his name is who he is and that he won’t change it – although many A&R reps have asked him to do so. ”I’ll never change it.,”he says. ”I want people to know about Birmingham. They know enough about Atlanta, Memphis, and Houston. I want them to know this is where I’m from and that Birmingham is more than the civil rights struggle and segregation. No one loves this city more or reps it better than I do. I am Birmingham.” So if it’s not the name, what is it? Birmingham J knows that national success will happen when it’s supposed to and until then he doesn’t want any handouts. He readily admits that maybe the timing has been off in his career. Runarounds from labels, miscommunication, changing management teams and other disappointments have all played a part in delaying his introduction to the rest of the world. Ever the realist, he says that ”Things happen on God’s time, not yours. Regardless of what you do.”
That knowledge has kept him motivated as he’s watched other artists break nationally. In some ways, he feels the years he’s put in without the support of a major label has matured him as an artist and businessman and that maturity is a form of success in its own right. Learning how to build radio spins and sales, has given him insight in the industry that many other artists don’t have. It has also prepared him now that things are taking off.![[Single] Birmingham J - Stop Sweatin Me (feat. Photo Slim)](http://streetsonpoint.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/unnamed-5-1024x961.jpg)
Birmingham J has teamed up with DJ TOMMY BROWNE, the President of Buck City Radio and the Executive Director of the Southeast reigion for the Heat 100, As an Executive Producer / ANR /Manager and Dj , With his new team Birmingham J will be in a position to garner the national attention that his industry peers and fans have always known that he deserves.

It’s Thanksgiving time, and you know what that means. Yes, obviously your drunk uncle and the button on your pants are about to make things super uncomfortable, but that’s not what we’re talking about right now. Keeping his annual tradition alive, Snoop Dogg hosted an intimate dinner for several of his rowdiest, raunchiest entertainer friends just to give thanks and have a good time.
On this special Thanksgiving edition of GGN, Snoop is joined by Daz Dillinger, Christina Milian, Ricky Harris, Slink Johnson, Alex Thomas, Too $hort, Red Grant, Luenell, Bishop Don Magic Juan, and the Mariachi Lindas Mexicanas. As you might imagine with such a cast of characters, Trap Kitchen’s delicious bird wasn’t the only thing getting carved up. Watch the video to see them skewer each other, dudes who have money, cocaine, Melania Trump, and more. It’s the perfect escape for when your own family becomes too much to bear—and that’s truly something to be thankful for.

It's taken nine months, but Yasiin Bey fka Mos Def is being allowed to leave South Africa.
As we previously reported, Bey was arrested Thursday, January 14, at South Africa's Cape Town International Airport after attempting to board a flight with his wife and kids using a "world passport," which is not recognized in the country.
He was arrested and charged with using a false passport and travel document. Bey was released from jail after posting 5000 rand ($295) bail, however he was just granted permission to leave the country after apologizing for his actions.
“[He] has unreservedly apologized to the government of South Africa. The department is satisfied with the apology [and] will withdraw the charges against him,” the home affairs department said in a statement via The Guardian.
Bey is now listed as an "an undesirable person for his actions and will not be granted re-entry to South Africa."
TMZ reports that the former Black Star member will board a flight out of the country on Tuesday.
His attorney, Shaheid Schrueder, says they plan to appeal the "undesirable person" status once his client is back on U.S.soil.
The Brooklyn, New York native originally moved to Cape Town in May of 2013.

Kanye West is currently undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at UCLA Medical Center.
TMZ reports that the rapper was at his trainer, Harley Pasternak's home and being checked out by one of his doctors for severe sleep deprivation when he began "acting erratically."
Someone called the police to perform a welfare check on West. By the time the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived West had calmed down some, but refused to be taken to the hospital.
His management team and police advised the G.O.O.D. Music CEO that they believed it was in his best interest to seek additional help.
West was reportedly handcuffed to a gurney while being transported to the hospital.
This latest incident comes on the same day the rapper cancelled the remaining dates of his "Saint Pablo Tour," due to what his management called "exhaustion."
Within the last several days West has exhibited strange behavior.
During a show in San Jose Thursday, November 17, the rapper was booed as he ranted about his support for Donald Trump.
Two days later he cut his show short in Sacramento after only three songs, following a long diatribe about Beyonce, Jay Z, Drake, DJ Khaled, MTV and radio station programmers.
Finally, on Sunday, November 20, West abruptly cancelled a show in Los Angeles three hours before it was set to begin.
