Promising Washington State University quarterback Tyler Hilinski has passed away from an apparent suicide.
ABC News reports that the 21-year old's body was discovered by police in his Pullman, Washington apartment on Tuesday afternoon, January 16, when they went to check on him after he failed to show up for practice.
His death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A rifle and suicide note were found nearby.
"We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Tyler’s passing. He was an incredible young man and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him was better for it. The entire WSU community mourns as thoughts and prayers go out to his family," Washington State head football coach Mike Leach said.

Hilinski, a redshirt sophomore, was coming off a season in which he appeared in eight games. He was expected to be WSU's starting quarterback next season.
