LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) — Floyd Mayweather worked far too hard against Marcos Maidana their last time out to have to do it again in the rematch Saturday night.
Mayweather dominated Maidana from the opening bell, using his boxing skills to keep the Argentine off balance and pile up points on his way to a unanimous 12-round decision to retain his welterweight and super welterweight titles before a crowd at the MGM Grand that sometimes booed the lack of action.
It almost came at a cost, though, in a bizarre scene in the eighth round when Mayweather claimed that Maidana bit him on his wrist while they were in a clinch near the center of the ring.
"He bit me!" Mayweather yelled to the Showtime announcers working ringside.
Mayweather remained unbeaten in his remarkable 18-year pro career, winning for the 47th time and doing it with such dominance that about the only one complaining about the decision was Maidana.
"I was pressuring him and I was the aggressor," Maidana said. "I won the fight."
Mayweather earned at least $32 million for the rematch, bringing his total purses to more than $100 million in the last year. Though he wasn't marked up, he was upset over the bite.
"We were tangled in the center of the ring and I didn't realize what it was. Then I saw that he bit me," Mayweather said. "After the eighth round my fingers were numb, I couldn't use my left hand."
Maidana denied he bit Mayweather.
"How can he say I bit the glove with my mouthpiece?" Maidana asked. "I'm not a dog."
The fight was a marked contrast to their first bout in May, when Maidana roughed Mayweather up in a close fight. Mayweather won that bout, but it was close enough for Mayweather to offer an opponent only the second rematch of his career.
Maidana won't get a third fight after failing to land any big punches.
Two ringside judges scored it 116-111 for Mayweather, while the third had it 115-112. The Associated Press had it 117-110.
"I felt sharper in the first fight, my rhythm was off," Mayweather said. "I got hit with some shots tonight I shouldn't have gotten hit with. But that comes with the sport."
Mayweather complained long after the first fight that Maidana was a dirty fighter, and complained even more when Maidana seemed to try to hit him below the belt in a clinch in the eighth round, then apparently tried to bite him.
Mayweather immediately jumped back and gestured to referee Kenny Bayless that Maidana bit him on the wrist. He went to his corner and showed Bayless where the bite was, then went over to the Showtime announcers table to complain.
Maidana would later be penalized a point for tackling Mayweather as he tried desperately to find something that would work.
By the end of the ninth round, Maidana was so out of sorts he went to the wrong corner when the bell rang.
Maidana spent many of the early rounds trying to figure out a way to get inside like he did in May. Mayweather kept him at a distance, circling around and landing left jabs and hooks, then scampering out of the way before Maidana could respond.
Punch stats showed Maidana throwing far more punches (572-326) while Mayweather landed more (166-128). Mayweather's was hit with only 22 percent of punches while landing 51 percent of his own.
"I do have some bumps and bruises," Mayweather said. "But I listened to my dad (trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr.) who always said hit and not get hit. That's the way you last in this sport."
Mayweather was a 6-1 favorite in the fight, even though Maidana gave him a tough time in their first bout. He showed why in the early rounds as he moved and boxed while Maidana chased him futilely around the ring.
Mayweather was determined not to let the fight become anything like the first, when Maidana went after him wildly and mauled him at every opportunity. For the second fight, Mayweather came out boxing and did so beautifully during the opening rounds.
Maidana was more cautious early than he was in the first fight, willing to take his time to find Mayweather. He finally began to pick up the pace in the fourth round, trapping Mayweather on the ropes and landing some shots to his body and head.
Mayweather, though, showed he learned his lessons from the first fight, when he was cut over his right eye and took a lot of shots to the top of his head. A defensive wizard, he fought moving sideways and backward, throwing his left jab out and slipping the big punches thrown by the Argentine challenger.

LONDON (Associated Press) — British aid worker David Haines devoted his life to helping civilians in war zones and that is how he should be remembered, his family said Sunday as they grieved his death at the hands of Islamic State militants in Syria.
Haines — the third Westerner beheaded in recent weeks by the Islamic State group — had entered humanitarian work with enthusiasm, his brother Mike Haines said in a statement.
David Haines
"He helped whoever needed help, regardless of race, creed or religion," he said of his brother.
The 44-year-old was kidnapped in Syria in March last year when he was working for the French aid group Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development, or ACTED, to help victims of the fighting there.
He had also worked for groups such as Handicap International, which helps the disabled during conflicts, and Nonviolent Peaceforce, which sends unarmed peacekeepers into conflict zones. He had previously been in Libya during its civil war and South Sudan. Mike Haines said he had also worked for the United Nations in the Balkans "helping people in real need."
The leader of Bosnia's Islamic Community, Husein Kavazovic, called on fellow Muslims Sunday to "show resolve to stop the murderers." He said Haines' family can be proud of his legacy.
The beheading of Haines — and the Islamic State's explicit threat against another British hostage — prompted increased calls for Britain to take part in air strikes against the militants, who have seized large swaths of territory in Syria and Iraq.
Prime Minister David Cameron said Sunday after an emergency meeting of his military and security chiefs that the Islamic State terrorists pose a "massive" security threat that cannot be ignored.
"They are not Muslims, they are monsters," Cameron said after hailing Haines as a "British hero."
He did not announce new military measures but said British forces would continue offering logistical help to U.S. forces and that counterterrorism efforts will increase because the Islamic State group is planning attacks against Britain.
Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it saw no reason to doubt the authenticity of the video, which followed other videos that showed the beheadings of two U.S. journalists.
Islamic State extremists had threatened Haines' life in an earlier video released nearly two weeks ago.
The masked man shown in the latest video, which ends with footage of Haines' body, seems similar to the man in the earlier beheading videos. The tall man speaks with a similar British accent and — as in the two earlier videos — threatens the captive with a large knife brandished in his left hand.
The video shows Cameron condemning the Islamic State group. The man with the knife then condemns Britain's support of American action against the group and says the captive must pay with his life.
Cameron said Sunday the British public is sickened by the fact that the man on camera may be a British citizen.
Haines' family had issued a plea to his captors the day before the latest beheading video was released. They urged the hostage-takers to contact them. The family said IS had ignored earlier attempts to open communications.
British officials had said they were doing everything possible to protect Haines. An earlier rescue bid led by U.S. forces had failed, however, and it is not clear Western agencies know the precise location of the hostage-takers.
Mike Haines said his brother had joined the military as an aircraft engineer with the Royal Air Force after attending school and working for the Royal Mail.
He later got involved in humanitarian work and was "most alive and enthusiastic" when involved with such missions, Mike Haines said.
"His joy and anticipation for the work he went to do in Syria is for myself and family the most important element of this whole sad affair," Mike Haines said. "He was and is loved by all his family and will be missed terribly."
Haines had a teenage daughter in Scotland from a previous marriage and a four-year-old daughter in Croatia with his current wife, Dragana, who did not comment Sunday morning on the news of the killing.
British officials kept news of Haines' abduction out of the public eye for security reasons until IS showed him in a video nearly two weeks ago.
President Barack Obama said after the killing that the United States would stand with Britain in an expanded effort against the terror group.
"We will work with the United Kingdom and a broad coalition of nations from the region and around the world to bring the perpetrators of this outrageous act to justice, and to degrade and destroy this threat to the people of our countries, the region and the world," he said.
Germany and France, which is holding an international conference Monday to combat IS, also condemned Haines' killing.
"The odious assassination of David Haines shows once more the need for the international community to mobilize against the base and cowardly Daesh," French President Francois Hollande said, using the group's Arabic acronym.
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier called the Haines killing "an abhorrent act of barbaric violence beyond all limits of human civilization" and said the Paris meeting comes at the right time.
There needs to be "internationally agreed action to effectively stop the flow of fighters and money," he said.

HOUSTON - Montgomery County Sheriff Tommy Gage has issued a release saying that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.
Peterson was "true billed" on a charge of injury to a child Friday in Montgomery County, north of Houston.
As of Friday evening, Peterson was not in the custody of Montgomery County Sheriff's officers.
According to Gage's release, the Sheriff's Office will not discuss further details of the case.
TMZ Sports reports that Peterson, 29, did not practice with his team yesterday due to a scheduled "veteran's day," according to the team.
The team issued the following statement to its website after news of the indictment broke Friday afternoon:
"The Vikings are in the process of gathering information regarding the legal situation involving Adrian Peterson. At this time, we will defer further questions to Adrian's attorney Rusty Hardin."
Gwen Carter with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services could not confirm or deny that CPS was currently investigating Peterson and deferred all questions back to the Montgomery County District Attorney's office.
"Child Protective Services investigations are confidential according to state law, so we cannot comment," wrote Carter in an email Friday.
The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office has told ESPN that Peterson has been cooperative with their investigation. They say they received the case earlier this year.
Peterson's attorney Rusty Hardin later released the following statement:
Adrian Peterson has been informed that he was indicted by a grand jury in Montgomery County, Texas for Injury to a Child. The charged conduct involves using a switch to spank his son. This indictment follows Adrian's full cooperation with authorities who have been looking into this matter. Adrian is a loving father who used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son. He used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in east Texas. Adrian has never hidden from what happened. He has cooperated fully with authorities and voluntarily testified before the grand jury for several hours. Adrian will address the charges with the same respect and responsiveness he has brought to this inquiry from its beginning. It is important to remember that Adrian never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Friday that a source has told him that Peterson testified before a grand jury three weeks ago.
Lt. Brady Fitzgerald with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office confirmed to the NFL Network that his department had investigated the case after it was referred to them via the Houston Police Department.
Peterson is regarded as one of the NFL's premiere running backs. In 2012, he rushed for more than 2,000 yards after a brutal injury the year before threatened his career.
In Week 1, Peterson rushed for 75 yards on 21 attempts against the St. Louis Rams. The Vikings play the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Peterson was drafted seventh overall in the 2007 NFL Draft out of the University of Oklahoma.
He is due to make just over $14 million this year from the Vikings.
Peterson is the listed owner of at least one home in Montgomery County.
**UPDATE** September 13
Photos showing the wounds Adrian Peterson's 4-year old son suffered during the whipping have been released. The child suffered injuries to his legs, buttocks, back and scrotum.
The child told authorities that AP pulled down his pants and put leaves in his mouth while disciplining him, and that “Daddy Peterson hit me on my face.” He was being punished for pushing another of AP's sons off of a video game, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.
TMZ reports that AP sent his son's mother text messages informing her of the whipping and expressed remorse, but felt it was needed.
"Got him in the nuts once I noticed. But I felt so bad, n I'm all tearing that butt up when needed!" Peterson texted. "Never do I go overboard! But all my kids will know, hey daddy has he biggest heart but don't play no games when it comes to acting right."
When the child returned home to Minnesota where he lives with his mom, she noticed the injuries and took him to a doctor. The physician alerted authorities in Minnesota, who forwarded the information to Houston police.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was brought in to investigate because AP's home is in their jurisdiction. A grand jury handed down the indictment Thursday, September 11.
Peterson turned himself in to police Saturday at 1 a.m. He was later released on $15,000 bond.
Mug Shot
The Vikings have deactivated him for Sunday's game. An NFL investigation will soon follow. Peterson could face disciplinary action by the league.

After moving to the U.S. from Australia one of the cities Iggy Azalea lived in was Houston. Apparently she hooked up with local rapper Hefe Wine during that time and made a smut film, if his story is to be believed.
He told TMZ that he met Iggy when she was 18, so that clears one legal hurdle. He also says she was "100% fully aware" they were making a sex tape, which contradicts the story that lawyers for Iggy have floated out to the press.
Hefe claims he isn't the one who sent Vivid Entertainment the tape because his computer was stolen a few months back. Be he is interested in entertaining offers from Vivid boss Steve Hirsch.
As we previously reported, Hirsch has already made Iggy a multi-million dollar offer to get her to sign away her consent. We'll have to find out if she accepts.
Hefe says he will release a new collaboration with his former fling soon to prove the two are still on good terms. He had previously been described by her lawyers as a "spurned business suitor" trying to ruin her career.
**UPDATE** September 13
Hefe Wine spoke with TMZ's Harvey Levin about his sex tape with Iggy Azalea.
