Tyson Foods said Wednesday that 570 workers at its Wilkesboro, North Carolina, poultry facility have tested positive for COVID-19. That’s more than a fourth of the plant’s total workforce.

Tyson’s statement said all 2,244 employees and contractors at the site have been tested.

“We are working closely with local health departments to protect our team members and their families, and to help manage the spread of the virus in our communities,” said Tom Brower, senior vice president of health and safety for Tyson Foods. “We are using the most up-to-date data and resources to support our team members, and we are committed to ensuring they feel safe and secure when they come to work.”

Of the 570, most did not show any symptoms and “would not have been identified” if it weren’t for the facility-wide test, Tyson said. More than 2,000 were tested between May 6 and 9, according to the company.

Earlier this month, Tyson temporarily closed the poultry plant for cleaning and sanitizing in response to an outbreak, The News & Observer reported. The company wouldn’t say at the time how many employees were infected with coronavirus.

Wilkes County officials said that the majority of COVID-19 cases in the county were linked to the Tyson facility, the outlet reported.

Production has since continued and is expected to “ramp up,” the Wednesday statement said, and new safety measures have been put in place -- including temperature screenings, face masks, and physical barriers at workstations and break rooms.

“Our team members are essential to helping to feed the nation, and their health and safety is always our first priority,” said Kevin Taylor, complex manager for the Wilkesboro facility. “Disclosing our testing results will help better protect our team members and help provide the wider Wilkesboro community with the information it needs to stop the spread of the virus.”

Meat production facilities across the country have become hotspots of COVID-19.

A Tyson meat plant in Iowa saw 700, or 58% of the facility’s workforce, test positive for the virus, McClatchy News reported.

In April, Smithfield Foods was forced to close plants in North Carolina, South Dakota, Missouri and Wisconsin due to coronavirus, according to McClatchy News.

Many have blamed the virus for nationwide meat shortages, including Tyson board Chairman John Tyson, who just weeks ago proclaimed “The food supply chain is breaking,” McClatchy reported.

Other industry experts say that while the trend is concerning, it’s doubtful the food supply chain will “break.”

“It’s going to require everyone to just hang on and try to get through this,” Rob Handfield, a professor of operations and supply chain management at N.C. State University, told McClatchy News. “We’re not going to starve to death by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s going to be a rough time for some time to come.”

Video After The Jump

(CNN) A Virginia family was just trying to get out of the coronavirus blues by taking a long drive when they found what turned out to be nearly $1 million in cash in the middle of the road.

It happened last weekend.

A car in front of the Schantz family had swerved out of the way of what appeared to be a big bag of trash, Maj. Scott Moser of the Caroline County Sheriff's Department told CNN. The Schantz family, however, didn't have time to do the same.

"So they ran over the bag. Instead of leaving the trash in the road, they stopped, picked it up, threw it in the back of the truck," Moser said.

They saw another bag in the ditch nearby and picked that one up too. After they arrived home later that evening, they were going to throw away the trash from both bags.

"When they did, it appeared to be mail. Then, they went on further investigation and it appeared to be cash money," Moser said.

The Schantz family went to church with one of the county's sheriffs. He told the family to call the office.

"We went out there and determined it was, in fact, cash. It was in two bags and the total was close to $1 million," Moser said.

Within the two larger bags were smaller ones, each containing some information on where the money should have been deposited.

"Inside of the bag, there were plastic baggies and they were addressed with something that said 'cash vault,'" Emily Schantz told CNN affiliate WTVR.

The Sheriff's department conducted its own investigation before turning it over the United States Postal Service, which is now looking into the matter.

"Who it actually belonged to, where it was going," Moser said. "We haven't released any of that."

The USPS is now working to get the money back to its rightful owner.

"It's really a credit to just the character and fiber of the family," Moser said. "I'm sure it'd be difficult to make that decision. It's almost $1 million in cash. But they did the right thing."

Khabib Nurmagomedov's manager confirmed Tuesday that the UFC lightweight champion's father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, is in a medically induced coma after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

Speaking to ESPN's Brett Okamoto, Ali Abdelaziz said:

"I can confirm Khabib's father is in a medically induced coma. Khabib has been in contact with [Russian president] Vladimir Putin over the last several days, and he has promised Khabib's father will receive the best medical treatment available. Khabib's No. 1 message to people around the world right now is to stay at home, to prevent the spread of coronavirus."

Abdulmanap, who recently underwent heart surgery as well, was airlifted from Dagestan to Moscow earlier this month.

The 57-year-old Abdulmanap—who has a background in wrestling, judo and sambo—has been Khabib's trainer and coach from a young age and also coaches the combat sambo national team in Dagestan.

Khabib's UFC rival Conor McGregor tweeted the following message in support of Abdulmanap last week:

"Praying for the recovery of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. A man responsible for more World champions, across multiple fighting disciplines, than we even know. A true martial genius! Very saddened upon hearing this news tonight. Praying for the Nurmagomedov family at this time."

The 31-year-old Khabib is one of the most dominant forces in UFC history. In addition to being the reigning UFC lightweight champion, Khabib is a perfect 28-0 professionally with 10 wins by submission and eight by way of knockout.

Khabib beat McGregor by submission at UFC 229 in October 2018 and most recently fought at UFC 242 in September 2019, beating Dustin Poirier by submission.

Nurmagomedov was originally supposed to defend his title against Tony Ferguson at UFC 249, but travel restrictions in Russia meant he was unable to come to the United States.

Justin Gaethje replaced Khabib and beat Ferguson for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship, meaning a future fight between Khabib and Gaethje is likely in the cards.

Self-proclaimed princess of VA, singer, songwriter, and philanthropist, Fee Blu is a beacon of rawness, empowerment and evolving class, making her one of the freshest new voices of the contemporary music era. She is a hybrid of beauty, talent and intelligence, as she has a degree in engineering that was her plan B.

”Raised up in the hood, a bad girl gone good. I know that you remember me, but I’m not what I use to be”.

Born in South Boston, Virginia, Fee Blu began her journey to the top by singing in her church choir and to the drug dealers at the mailboxes in the underprivileged neighborhood where she found her roots.

Her music reminds you of a mixture of old school 90’s R&B with a new age millennial vibe; coupled with a crisp, yet raspy, soulful sound with subtle hints of inspiration. She’s a trumpeter and a self-taught pianist that co-produces on most of her own tracks.

In 2006, Fee signed her first songwriter contract with So Inkredible at the height of their initial success, penning rap hooks and R&B records for multiple affiliated artists. Influenced by her idol Mary J Blige, along with Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner and Elton John, Blu has morphed all of her influences into a street savvy, yet classic R&B soulful sound.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The body of former World Wrestling Entertainment pro Shad Gaspard was found early Wednesday on Los Angeles’ Venice Beach, where he was caught in a rip current last weekend, police said.

Patrol officers were flagged down around 1:25 a.m. by a person reporting that a body had washed ashore, a Police Department statement said.

“The decedent was identified as Shad Gaspard and next of kin was notified,” it said.

Gaspard went missing last Sunday after he went swimming with his 10-year-old son, Aryeh.

The boy was rescued and several other swimmers made it out of the water safely.

Gaspard, 39, was about 50 yards (46 meters) from shore when he was last spotted by a lifeguard, police said. A wave crashed over him and he was swept out to sea.

His wife, Siliana Gaspard, issued a statement Tuesday thanking authorities and fans.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the first responders who rescued Aryeh and to the lifeguards, coast guard, divers, fire and police departments for their continued efforts to help find our beloved Shad,” the statement said.

The statement had held out hope: “Shad is a fighter, a warrior and a magical soul. We are hoping and praying for his safe return. As a family we thank you all for your concern and well wishes. Please continue to keep sending your positivity and prayers to our beloved Shad.”

Gaspard gained prominence in the WWE as one half of the tag-team group Cryme Time, along with his partner, JTG.

After retiring from the WWE in 2010, Gaspard has had small roles on TV and in movies, including the 2015 Kevin Hart comedy “Get Hard.”
