Former Shady/Aftermath artist Stat Quo recently sat down with HipHopDX to break down being independent vs being on a major label and explains why 50 Cent's departure from Interscope was a smart move.

On the advantages of being independent

You can put your own music on iTunes. iTunes takes 30% of it. That means essentially they sell it for $9.99. You're getting $7.00. Even if you go through an indy online distributor. Let's say they take 20% and you get 80% of it, you're still winning. So, if I sell a CD... say I just put it on iTunes. I'm getting $7.00 in my pocket for every CD I sell. Whereas if you go through a [major] label, they give you a dollar. Some change? A label is only good at building your brand to where you can go all over the world, and be who you are.

On why 50 Cent made the right move to ink a deal Caroline/Capitol/UMG.

50 Cent is who he is. What he's doing is very intelligent. Because that brand is solidified. Eventually it's just a natural progression. He's as big as he's gonna get under [Interscope]. At this time, it's time to do something else with his career. How long is he going to stay under Eminem and Dre? At a certain point it's like, 'I'm my own boss.' He's been his own boss for a long time, but truly your own sh*t. He's looking at Jay and Puffy and he's like, 'I made just as much money as them, why would I not put my own shit out?' Everybody knows 50 Cent.

Paula Patton and Robin Thicke have split up after 9 years of marriage. The two issed a statement announcing their separation to People.com.

"We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time,"

Thicke was involved in a couple of controversial moments with other females on the night of the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.

The first involved his performance with Miley Cyrus at the show, where she twerked on him and used a foam finger to touch his private parts.

Then at a VMA after party he snapped a photo with a blonde women. In it his hand can be seen grabbing her butt.

Who knows if those incidents played a factor into the couple's split, but I'm sure they didn't help.

**UPDATE** February 27

Paula Patton initially tried to hide her embarrassment after her husband's 2013 MTV Video Music Award performance with Miley Cyrus.

The actress gave a couple of interviews saying she wasn't surprised at what she saw, and that Robin and Miley had practiced their routine days in advance of the August 25, 2013 show

"Honestly, they rehearsed for three days beforehand, and I don't know how not to dance with someone having their booty in your...all my friends do it like that," Paula said during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, in September 2013. "And I don't really know what the big deal is."

watch-what-happens-live-season-10-10048-gal-4.jpg

Turns out it was a really big deal. According to TMZ, Miley improvised the raunchy part of the routine and Robin just went with the flow.

Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke perform their salacious rendition of Thicke's hit 'Blurred Lines' at the  MTV Video Music Awards last month.

Paula felt "utterly disrespected" watching Robin let Miley grind on his crotch in front of a national television audience.

Things got worse when the photo of Robin grabbing a female fan's butt at the after party surfaced. The couple argued constantly after the incidents until Paula finally decided to end their marriage.

The NFL is preparing to implement a rule banning the use of the n-word in games. The first time a players uses it and is caught by a referee a 15-year penalty will be assessed. If the same player is caught using it a second time he will be ejected from the game.

12350659275?profile=original

Implementation of the rule is being strongly pushed for by the Fritz Pollard Alliance, an organization that "promotes diversity and equality of job opportunity in the coaching, front office and scouting staffs of National Football League teams."

It's expected to be adopted by the NFL competition committee at March’s owners meetings.

“I will be totally shocked if the competition committee does not uphold us on what we’re trying to do,” said John Wooten, chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance. “We want this word to be policed from the parking lot to the equipment room to the locker room. Secretaries, PR people, whoever, we want it eliminated completely and want it policed everywhere.”

There's been no mention of any other racial slurs being banned. Some players aren't sure if the word can be policed. Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark told ESPN it will be difficult.

"I think it's going to be really tough to legislate this rule, to find a way to penalize everyone who uses this word," Ryan said. "And it's not going to be white players using it toward black players. Most of the time you hear it, it's black players using the word."

Fans don't get it either. In an ESPN SportNation poll, nearly 52,000 sports enthusiasts voted. 61% of them didn't think the NFL should adopt this rule.

What are your thoughts?

Despite not legally being able to represent Gucci Mane in his gun possession case, a 51-year old South Carolina prisoner thinks he can free the incarcerated 1017 Brick Squad CEO.

According to TMZJerry Lewis Dedrick, who is currently locked up in Williamsburg federal prison has filed a motion on Gucci's' behalf. In it he argues that possessing a gun isn't a federal crime.

12350640854?profile=original

Because he's not Gucci lawyer, Dedrick wants the courts to forward his motion to Guwop's legal team with the hope they will use it help their client's case.

The chances of this happening are slim to none, but at least Gucci has somebody in his corner.

Gucci is currently locked up in a Georgia jail on gun and weed possession charges.
