It's been a decade since Chingy released his smash hit single "Right Thurr" off of his debut album, Jackpot. Since that time the rapper has dropped four more albums. In between he left Ludacris' Disturbing Tha Peace label, came back, then left again. He's currently on his independent grind.

12350535476?profile=original

He talked to DJ Whoo Kid recently about getting rich off of "Right Thurr," gave his opinion on 50 Cent and Young Buck remixing it, spoke about his new reality show entitled "Business with the Babies," the rumors about an affair with a transgender male, upcoming album "Money Disease," being a father, having a crush on Teyana Taylor, his current relationship with Ludacris and more

Pics After The Jump

Drake lands on the cover of Vibe Magazine's 2014 Winter Issue. The October's Very Own CEO had a lot to discuss during his sit down with writer John Kennedy. Topics ranged from his Nothing Was the Same album to Kanye West. Check out some of what Drizzy had to say below and peep the  pics from his photo shoot with Zach Gold.

drake-behind-the-scenes-cover-shoot-6.jpg

On Nothing Was the Same

This album is probably the most aware of self that I’ve ever been. I’m here, I’m gonna own this now. I’m gonna give you guys everything and keep going forward ’til something else happens. Like, I’ve fallen in love. Or make the real Here, My Dear.

vibe-drake-eyes-closed.jpg

On his desire to be loved like Tupac Shakur

In my mind, I’m still fighting to convince you that I’m meant to be here. I just want people to love me like they love 'Pac. I want people to remember I spoke from the heart and told the truth. It’s so crazy because while 'Pac was here, he felt like everybody hated him. And that’s where that sh*t comes from. As much as I brush shit off, I don’t feel like people love Drake necessarily. I’m still human—I see a lot of love, tickets selling, people going crazy. But at the same time, it’s tough to just see that. I see the rest of it, too. I know I must be most-hated out here.

drake-looking-down.jpg

On being criticized for rapping about street topics and singing. And the parallel to 50 Cent & Ja Rule

Yeah, I see it in a lot of places. The difference between me and that parallel is that as much as I may make great records for women, nobody could ever box me into a corner. I see myself more as 50 than Ja, not from a street perspective, but from a hitmaking perspective. I have the “21 Questions” and “Started From the Bottom.” I’ve tapped into both markets, whereas when Ja would go the street route it would be seen as a reach because 50 kept attacking him. So he’d have to stay in that girl lane. I can really rap, so I would never let that happen. That is an interesting situation to bring up. I don’t want confrontation because it’s stressful, man. As much of a show as it is for people and sometimes what makes it exciting, for us it’s just unnecessary pressure and stress. That shit’s not fun. It’s not fun to be in a beef with somebody. If you do win the war of words, then what? Then where does it go? The person starts feeling self-conscious, and then we start getting into some whole other shit. I try and avoid shit like that for the sake of my career.

drake-looking-through-you.jpg

On whether "The Language" was a response to Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse

I don’t ever want to get into responses. It’s a commitment to go there. “The Language” is just energy. What it was inspired by, I’m sure that, and other things. It’s just me talking my shit. I never once felt the need to respond to that record. The sentiment he was putting forth is what he should have. Of course you wanna be the best. Where it became an issue is that I was rolling out an album while that verse was still bubbling, so my album rollout became about this thing. What am I supposed to say? Nah, we’ll be buddy-buddy? Mind you, I never once said he’s a bad guy [or] I don’t like him. I think he’s a fucking genius in his own right, but I also stood my ground as I should. And with that came another step, which then I have to realize I’m being baited and I’m not gonna fall. Jordan doesn’t have to play pickup to prove that he could play ball, no offense. But I’m not gonna give you the chance to shake me necessarily, ’cause I feel great. There’s no real issue. It’s tough because the people wanna see us tear each other down; I don’t wanna give them that. There’s no point. I have no ill feelings toward that guy. It’s just like, it’s there for me if I wanna fall for it. I’m just too smart for that. Hopefully it’s the last time I gotta talk about this, ’cause every time I open my mouth up about it, they take this piece and take this piece. And he’s hungry, so he’s going to do what he has to do like the BET [cypher]. But again, it’s not enough for me to go. We haven’t seen each other [since the BET cypher] but I’m sure we’ll see each other and it’ll be cool. And if it’s not, then I guess that’s how our story unfolds.

drake-behind-the-scenes-cover-shoot-3.jpg

On Kanye West saying he wishes he wrote "Hold On, We're Going Home"

As of late, me and ’Ye have opened up the doors to having communication and a relationship that was closed for a bit—and it needed to be. To push him more. We’re just checkin’ on each other once in a while. I’m sure it’s always gonna be competitive. [OVO co-founder] Oliver El-Khatib and I were talking the other night, like, “How crazy it is to hear ’Ye say shit about us?” We’re some kids from Toronto. It’s crazy. I couldn’t have predicted it. I’m still very much honored when I hear something like that because that’s still my guy. He’s why people accept me. He really was the first one to break down that door that I was allowed to walk through. It was crazy to hear him say anything about my music, let alone, that. And there’s a lot of good songs out right now for him to say that. It’s dope.

2014 is going to be a huge year for 50 Cent. His Animal Ambition project will be released in January. That will be followed by his highly anticipated Street King Immortal album later in the year.

On the business side of things look for SMS Audio to be in the news a lot. The recent partnering with Timbaland and Carmelo Anthony increases public awareness of the brand. Expect a shift in the world of headphones.

12350519881?profile=original

The G-Unit mogul recently sat down with Claire Lobenfeld (@clairevloof Complex to discuss several topics, including the headphone line, Miley Cyrus, Eminem and his hit record for the ages, "In Da Club."

12350520452?profile=original

For those who don't know, why headphones?
For me it’s an extension of my passion for music. I know other people are hearing it the way it was intended to actually be heard. [With] these products, Timbaland helped develop the sound. I sent him the DJ headset and he liked that one the most because it’s the closest thing to the [headphones] we use in the studio. Later on, he came back around and [asked to be] involved, so he ended up investing.

The new line has a wireless speaker, not just headphones. That’s new for you.
The technology is getting better and better. I only want to be involved with things that relate to my lifestyle. Music is easy. It is my lifestyle and without that none of the other opportunities would be there. They wouldn’t exist. You can find yourself get bitten by the film and television bug at points and start doing different things. I got four television shows [with] different networks now. I have a scripted show on the Starz Network. Power is actually filming [now]. Omari Hardwick is the lead. He acted on the show Dark Blue. It was amazing. You got Courtney Kemp Agboh, she was nominated for an Emmy for The Good Wife. She’s the first African-American, period, to run a show on network television [and get nominated], so it’s an accomplishment in itself. But this is a project we’ve worked on for two years, just to show you how I multi-task, [it’s in] long periods of time.

And you’ve been working on the headphone line for two years, as well?
Yup. Two years. [For a long time] I only had a 3-D rendering of what I wanted the original headset to look like. I had to acquire a company that was already functioning, with a staff, in order to make it happen fast enough.

How involved are you in testing them out? When I’m wearing your headphones, I am experiencing what is optimal comfort for 50 Cent?
Everything that I have experienced that was wrong with headsets in the past, I took out of these. I used the actual polyurethane to make it tougher, I’ve had headsets that need batteries and you end up spending a lot more putting in the batteries than what you initially paid for. Those headsets turn on in [your] bag. The battery would be dead when I got a nine-hour flight or some shit and I’m stuck there with no music.

What’s your favorite thing to listen to on them right now?
My favorite stuff? It’s changing. If I watch something and it’s on my mind, I’ll have a stronger interest and I’ll be listen more. I was listening to Miley Cyrus after the [VMAs]. Because to me, [she’s making] a creative choice. That’s all. And the things she was doing, I could see Madonna doing it and being accepted immediately. But it’s how they perceive her. And it’s not [by] that creative choice. The perception is "[You're] Hannah Montana, so stay there."

Miley-Cyrus-008.jpg

I think that’s part of what she wanted. And it’s working for her.
It works because she’s being an artist that no one expected. A real artist is going to want the ability to be free with whatever they create. When you find yourself in times of stress, but you’ve developed and you got a great idea but I got to give this to someone else because it’s just not good for me… It’s interesting... [But] I was listening to that for a little bit [to] try to see what she was thinking.

With hip-hop, I’ve had a chance to step back from it and be a fan of the culture. It’s good when you can do that—when you have the luxury. A lot of artists are lost in their ideas. This is why we have people who have huge success within the culture. [Listeners think], "It’s cool, but it’s not like when you did this. When that fist record came." [Those comments are] coming from the artist community. That’s another artist waiting for his shot or someone who feels like their friend has what it takes.  He’s creating that negative energy for you. It’s very rare that artists create a record that you consider, for that period of time, the record.

With the Internet, you get more access to how much people are reacting to you. With all that mounting pressure, what do you do? I can see why you would take a step back and see what other things you like to do.
[By] not having interest in a lot of other areas, [Eminem] was able to take a step back from these records. He just goes away and then he’d just watch [other artists] and then figures out what to do next. But [he's] just not as active as all these other folks. Everything else that [he's asked to] be involved in, he says no. He says, "No" more than he says, “Hi.” The circle’s so tight... It speaks to the culture when people see themselves in [your] light, [your] greatness.

best-bets-albums-eminem-650-430.jpg

When they look at Em and they see themselves it’s because they feel him. You see these other guys come out of nowhere almost, have huge hits. I like Eminem. I think hip-hop grew faster in different areas because of the success of his projects and there’s no other rappers doing other than whatever’s comfortable to them [despite Em's influence]. They’ll name top five MC and not have his name on it. When none of them have music that performed that well.

Is that why when you see artists you're unfamiliar with at award shows you do your research?
I’ve seen award shows and people got awards that I didn’t know. I didn’t know who they were. And I was like who is that? Why did they get the award? And then I go, I gotta listen to their record to see what is drawing people to it. Some of it is, I think, those committees. Award show committees are invested somehow because I’ve seen things that I didn’t understand. Even in my own career, the largest debuting hip-hop album wasn’t the Best New Album. It was Evanescence and they’ve been long gone.

I mean I think there is probably a stuffiness but speaking of never hearing of bands, this is actually something I saw today that I wanted to at least tell you about. Have you ever heard of that band called Arctic Monkeys? They’re a British band.
Arctic Monkeys. I haven’t.

ArcticMonkeysDC021111.jpg

I was watching an interview with them and they were talking about how their new album is a little bit is R&B-leaning. And they said they wanted it to sound as good in your car as when you hear "In Da Club." That you never turn that song off when it comes on. It was interesting to hear knowing we'd be talking about speakers.
You know what? That record—I don’t know. [It's] chasing me. [I keep] running from it. I made a lot of music in 2003—it’s been 10 years and that record just stands out. I guess you never get a second chance at a first impression having it be the first single off the album.

12350520279?profile=original

More people have heard it than "How to Rob."
And it doesn’t get old because it’s always someone’s birthday.

Audio After The Jump

Artists can get very touchy when it comes to their work. Wale released his third studio album entitled The Gifted in June of this year. It was a solid body of work that featured the hit record "Bad" with Tiara Thomas.

Complex recently released their top 50 albums of 2013 list and The Gifted wasn't on it.

12350509100?profile=original

Wale called the Complex office on Thursday (December 12) and went completely ballistic because of the omission.

So, you think y'all being a responsible publication by continuously to f*cking like... do all do all that petty sh*t? At this point, you know it’s got to be personal. And by ou telling me it’s not personal. It's like a bold face lie. To be omitted from every type of list that y’all do or be at the bottom of it or every type of way that y’all can omit me, ya will. I just want somebody to be 100 with me a be like, 'Yeah, you might have rubbed somebody the wrong way years ago in some form or fashion.' Because I've had no interaction with the company in years. You mean to tell me Juicy J album better than mine? Is that what you trying to tell me?! Don't play me man. I came at you civil right now, but it can go completely in another direction. Respect me, dog. Respect the f*cking culture right now! Because right now it's like some petty sh*t going on right now. And I'm trying to get to the bottom of it in a civil manner.

After being told that Complex didn't meant to disrespect him, the rapper completely loses it.

Man, f*ck you dog! You know it's disrespect! Every f*cking time, dog. I swear to God I'll come to that f*cking office and start knocking n*ggas the f*ck out. You wanna see some ghetto ignorant sh*t? That's the only thing y'all promote. That's the only thing y'all promote from n*ggas, is ghetto ignorant sh*t! You giving me the same song and dance like I'm a f*cking idiot. You think I'm a f*cking idiot? Is that what you're trying to tell me? I think you think think I'm a f*cking idiot. Because y'all always do this sh*t How you mean to tell me my album ain't in the top 50? Alright, I'll see y'all tomorrow n*ggas tomorrow. How bout that? Get the security ready.

Video After The Jump

50 Cent sat down with XXL during  the release of his new SMS Audio headphones at Henri Bendell in New York City.

The conversation covered a wide range of topics from Kanye West's fashion clothing ambitions to Kendrick Lamar.

12350502693?profile=original

On SMS Audio

SMS for me is an extension of my passion for music. For me music is the gateway to everything, to opening up possibilities for me. I look at money like it's freedom. It gives you the ability to invest in your own choices and your own ideas.

On music's influence on pop culture

There's a shift in the way the actual audience is thinking. They're into high end clothing. They're wearing European cut clothing. As clothes got tighter they started buying designer clothing. They don't realize how much influence Hip Hop culture has. Because when we say it's cool, it's really cool. That's when the needle moves. Look as the major car companies. Look at Ferrari, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Lamborghini. Those car companies, when's the last time you saw a commercial from them? They don't have to if they're in our music videos and we're not sending them a bill for it.

On Kanye West's fashion industry ambitions

When you enter new areas you're going to meet resistance. And you have to be willing to work through those barriers. In Kanye's case, wanting to be a part of high end fashion. That's a process. It's not something that just happens. They don't allow you to just pick up and say, 'This idea, that idea, and I'm in.'

On his upcoming projects

They'll see my Animal Ambition project first. It's something I just came up with that I was inspired to write it. I've been writing that and it will be out before the Street King Immortal project. I'll release it as a solid piece. I'll have music videos for every song. But I'll wait until they start to choose which records they like. I wouldn't call it a mixtape because it's album quality material. It's structured like an album more than mixtape material. This tape is all original. The only thing I can compare it do that I've done is War Angel.

On Kendrick Lamar

I love Kendrick. There's a huge difference in the two of us, in our characters and the way we present ourselves. He possesses the ability to appear like he didn't know this was gonna happen. There's a level of confidence that's required for you to withstand the doubt. I had so much doubt prior to it actually working for me that I would appear at points a little arrogant like, 'I knew it was gonna work. It took you so long to figure it out. I told you I was hot.' And Kendrick will give you that awkward enrgy that's like, 'This is great, this is really happening.' Every time I'm around him that's what it feels like.

Super producer Pharrell Williams recently covered Complex's "Best of 2013" digital issue. Joe La Puma spoke with him about a wide variety of topics for the cover story.

One of the questions from the conversation that appears in the outtakes was whether Skateboard P would be interested in working with 50 Cent.

I would love to make an album with 50 that felt like a film. 'Cause he’s an actor. He’s an actor and a rapper and all these other things. I would wanna put all those talents together and try and make a cohesive body of work that was all about him. I’d just be Mario Puzo. I don’t have to be Corleone. I don’t have to be in it at all. I could just be the air in the room, which is just the storywriter or the backdrop. Cause he’s the storywriter.

12350499654?profile=original

Would you be interested in hearing an entire project from 50 produced entirely by Pharrell?

Video After The Jump

50 Cent's career has taken him to every part of the globe. During that time he has had the opportunity to meet with many remarkable people. One of his fondest and most impactful memories is of his 2008 meeting with the former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.

12350493890?profile=original

"For me that was a wonderful experience," the G-Unit CEO, told MTV. "When I met him he was real quiet. I didn't know what I expected. I'd seen photographs before and all that, but I was excited. I got up that morning like, 'Yo, they say I might be able to meet him.' I'd read things prior to that about him. Now you see how adversity could define you. When you see someone that willed their way through probably the toughest situations in the world. There's nothing tougher than that."

50 recalled visiting Robben Island and seeing the prison cell Mandela had to live in for 18 of his 27 years in prison, after being convicted in 1962 of sabotage and conspiracy to overthrow the South African government. During that time Mandela only had a straw mat to sleep on.

Mandela's Robben Island prison cell

"Even the cell was like 6 x 6 feet. The other cells would feel like a luxury suite compared to that," 50 said. "Your feet would be at the door. They would have him out working, breaking rocks. It would create this white sand. The dust from that over the 27 years that he spent in the penitentiary had started doing a little damage to his eyes. To endure that type of discomfort... even the stories about his wife at the time, it's a horror film."

Visiting museums and talking to people who had experienced what it was like to live through apartheid made a lasting impression on 50.

"The learning process. We went to museums. We got a chance to go back step by step throughout history and different people that were around, that first hand experienced things during that time period. The things they would tell you off the air would intensify things," he continued. "When a person turns away from a picture and tells you something that personally happened to them during that time frame. It seems so far away from what we call hard times in low income environments within the U.S. It makes you look at your choices, like maybe you made them under the wrong thoughts. Because it felt like we didn't have anything or we were under the worst scenario ever. Then you see something that's more intense than that. It'll make you feel different."

Video After The Jump

The year is 2003 and 50 Cent has a stranglehold on the music industry. He and Lloyd Banks hit the America Online studios for a performance of "Heat (I Call The Shots Round Here)" off of the 2002 mixtape, The Future Is Now.

Tony Yayo was unavailable at the time so 50 spits his verse (the first one) during the performance.

Video After The Jump

As we previously reported, Paul Walker died in a fiery car crash in Santa Clarita, California on Saturday (November 30). The 40-year old actor was riding in the passenger seat of a Porsche GT driven by his friend Roger Rodas, who also died.

The two had just left a charity event for victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which recently devastated the Philippines. The event was sponsored by Paul and Roger's Reach Out Worldwide foundation.

The foundation was created to help areas hit by natural disasters.

“I’m a doer, and whether it was the tsunami in Sri Lanka or the earthquake in Indonesia, I was always saying, I should be there; I should be helping out," reads a quote from Paul on ROWW's website.

Walker's friends and employees rushed to the crash scene and attempted to extinguish the fire and free Paul from the wreckage.

“Him and his buddy, his brother in arms at heart just decided to joyride, take a spin. Something we all do. We’re all car enthusiasts. ... We’re all here driving, enjoying each other, and God must’ve needed help,” said Antonio Holmes. “We all heard from our location (the accident). It’s a little difficult to know what it was. Someone called it in and said it was a vehicle fire. We all ran around and jumped in cars and grabbed fire extinguishers and immediately went to the vehicle. It was engulfed in flames. There was nothing. They were trapped. Employees, friends of the shop. We tried. We tried. We went through fire extinguishers.”
