REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Chyna, the WWE star who in the 1990s became one of the best-known and most-popular female professional wrestlers in history, has died, authorities said.
Police in Southern California said they were responding to a 911 call from a friend of former WWE wrestler Chyna when they found her dead in her Redondo Beach apartment.
A friend had gone Wednesday to check on Chyna, whose real name is Joan Marie Laurer, after she had failed to answer her phone for a few days, Redondo Beach police said in a statement. The friend told the 911 operator that Laurer wasn't breathing.
The 46-year-old Laurer was dead when officers arrived, police said. Several media outlets report that she was 45.
Neither police nor coroner's officials have released any cause of death.
A coroner's investigator was still at the location with the body late Wednesday night, according to Los Angeles County coroner's Lt. Larry Dietz. He said he had no further information on the death.
The tall, muscle-bound, raven-haired Laurer billed herself as the "9th Wonder of the World" because her wrestling predecessor Andre the Giant had already called himself the eighth.
She was a member of the wrestling squad that dubbed itself "D-Generation X," often wrestled against men and at one point was the WWE women's champion.
On her official website a statement posted Wednesday night reads, "Today we lost a true icon, a real life superhero. Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th Wonder of the World has passed away. She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her."
I just heard the tragic news that @ChynaJoanLaurer has passed. She was truly a pioneer in our industry, and she will be missed. #RIPChyna
— Stephanie McMahon (@StephMcMahon) April 21, 2016
Laurer was a native of Rochester, New York and graduated from the University of Tampa in Florida before taking up wrestling.
She joins a long list of WWE professional wrestlers who have died relatively young, including Rick Rude, Curt "Mr. Perfect" Hennig, the Ultimate Warrior and Owen Hart.
After leaving the WWE in 2001, Laurer posed for Playboy and appeared in adult films and on reality TV, including the shows "The Surreal Life" and "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew."
This story has been updated to reflect that Laurer was 46, according to a police statement.

Retired neurosurgeon and failed Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson stirred up a hornet's nest Wednesday, April 20, when he was asked his opinion about Harriet Tubman replacing America's seventh president and slave owner, Andrew Jackson, on the $20 bill.
Ben Carson talks about Harriet Tubman beginning at the 4:00 mark
"Well I think Andrew Jackson was a tremendous secretary — I mean a tremendous president,” Carson said Wednesday on Fox Business. “I mean, Andrew Jackson was the last president who actually balanced the federal budget, where we had no national debt."
"And here he gets kicked off the $20 bill," host Neil Cavuto said.
"Right, in honor of that we kick him off of the money,” Carson said, though Jackson is expected to stay on the back of the bill.
“Are you anti-Harriet Tubman?” Cavuto asked.
"I love Harriet Tubman. I love what she did, but we can find another way to honor her. Maybe a $2 bill,” Carson said.
Harriet Tubman freed hundreds of slaves in the 1800's
When informed of Carson's comments Rosa Parks' niece, Sheila Keys, told TMZ that he "needs surgery on his brain" and clearly puts zero historical value on Tubman's contributions to America.
Despite a $40,000 reward being offered for her capture Tubman made 19 trips into slave country by 1860, helping to free hundreds as the leader of The Underground Railroad.
Famous author and abolitionist Frederick Douglass said, "Excepting John Brown -- of sacred memory -- I know of no one who has willingly encountered more perils and hardships to serve our enslaved people than [Harriet Tubman]."
Frederick Douglass
Tubman became known as "Moses."
What do you think of Ben Carson's comments?

WASHINGTON (AP) — Harriet Tubman, an African-American abolitionist who was born a slave, will stand with George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Benjamin Franklin as among the iconic faces of U.S. currency.
The $20 bill will be redesigned with Tubman's portrait on the front, marking two historic milestones, Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew announced Wednesday. She will be the first African American on U.S. paper money and the first woman depicted in 100 years.

— Chirlane McCray (@Chirlane) April 20, 2016
The leader of the Underground Railroad will replace the portrait of Andrew Jackson, the nation's seventh president and a slave owner, who will be pushed to the back of the bill.
Lew also settled the backlash that had erupted after he announced an initial plan to remove Alexander Hamilton, the nation's first Treasury secretary, from the $10 bill in order to honor a woman.
BREAKING: Treasury official says Secretary Lew has decided to put Harriet Tubman on $20 bill.
— The Associated Press (@AP) April 20, 2016
Instead, the Treasury building on the back of the bill will be replaced with leaders of the suffrage movement to give women the right to vote, including Lucretia Mott, Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Alice Paul.
From left, Sojourner Truth, Lucretia Mott, Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul and Elizabeth Cady Stanton will be featured on the back of the new $10 bill.
The $5 bill will also undergo change. The illustration of the Lincoln Memorial on the back of the will be redesigned to honor "events at the Lincoln Memorial that helped to shape our history and our democracy." The new image will include civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., Eleanor Roosevelt and Marian Anderson.
An online group, Women on 20s, said it was encouraged that Lew was responding to its campaign to replace Jackson with a woman. But it said it would not be satisfied unless Lew also committed to issuing the new $20 bill at the same time that the redesigned $10 bill is scheduled to be issued in 2020.

The $10 bill is the next note on Treasury's redesign calendar, and it aims introduce updated protections against counterfeiting. That redesign was scheduled to be unveiled in 2020, which marks the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote. Lew had often cited that connection as a reason to put a woman on the $10 bill.
However, the effort ran into strong objections from supporters of Hamilton, who is enjoying renewed pop culture interest with the hit Broadway musical "Hamilton."
Tubman, who was born into slavery in the early part of the 19th century, escaped and then used the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad to transport other slaves to freedom. After the Civil War, Tubman, who died in 1913, became active in the campaign for women's suffrage.
Various groups have been campaigning to get a woman honored on the nation's paper currency, which has been an all-male domain for more than a century.
The last woman featured on U.S. paper money was Martha Washington, who was on a dollar silver certificate from 1891 to 1896. The only other woman ever featured on U.S. paper money was Pocahontas, from 1865 to 1869. Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea are on dollar coins.

DJ Quik doesn't believe Kanye West's latest album, "The Life of Pablo," is good. The super producer appeared on NoahTV recently and offered his opinion on the project and West in general.
"Kanye's so scared he don't know what to do with The Life of Pablo. Lets keep this shit all the way 100," Quik said, before asking the host his thoughts. "Is it better than 808s & Heartbreak? Is it better than [Yeezus]? Do you think it deserves all the hype though? Is this the kind of album that you would really want to go buy.?"
Quik went on to say that Kanye is skating by off of his name and association with the Kardashians now.
"So, his celebrity supersedes his talent right now. Yes," Quik continued. "Come on, he's a Kardashian ... what the fuck. What he gon' do to me, beat me up? It's Kanye. This is a challenge, this ain't a diss. Make your best music because fans aren't stupid. They're just not. Maybe his head is all the way up in Kim Kardashian's vagina. Vadashian ... the new pussy."

We've got some clarification on Conor McGregor supposed retirement and his situation with the UFC... we think.
As we previously reported, The Notorious surprised everyone on Tuesday, April 19, by announcing that he was retiring from mixed martial arts at the young age of 27.
I have decided to retire young.
— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) April 19, 2016
Thanks for the cheese.
Catch ya's later.
Following several hours of rampant speculation as to why he would walk away from the sport, specifically the UFC, that has made him a millionaire in a very short period of time, UFC President Dana White appeared on ESPN's Sportscenter to offer an explanation.
He says Mystic Mac refused to show up in Las Vegas to help promote the organization's huge UFC 200 card and and his rematch with Nate Diaz, that was scheduled for July 9, 2016 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. As a result he was taken off of the card.
"Well, what's happened is, we've pulled Conor McGregor from UFC 200," White said on SportsCenter. "And we're working on other fights right now. Conor did not want to come to Las Vegas [this week] to film the commercial or be a part of any of the marketing that we have. He's in Iceland training and [not participating in the marketing] is not possible. This has only happened one other time in UFC history. Nick Diaz didn't show up for his press conference for his fight with Georges St-Pierre and I pulled Nick Diaz from the fight. We've had other instances like this where guys didn't want to do the press conference, [but] you have to. You have to do the press conference, so Conor put out that tweet. Is Conor McGregor retiring? Only he could answer that question."
Translation: The UFC is not about to let an athlete dictate to them when he or she is going to fulfill their contractual obligation to put in the work that is necessary to sell a fight to the public. Either do it their way or kick rocks.
There are rumors that McGregor wanted $10 million to go through with the match and the UFC balked. Dana's explanation may be a smokescreen, but it's all we have to go on at this point.
Chael Sonnen
Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen believes McGregor overplayed his hand and it blew up in his face.
"I don't have any inside info on this. Just being around the business since the 90's, I know how it works. I know how this whole thing went down. And if I tell you what I think, I guarantee I'm 98 percent right if not 100," Sonnen said on Facebook Live, via MMA Fighting on Tuesday. "Conor had a deal with the UFC. And Conor's now going back and trying to renegotiate and it just doesn't work that way. It can't. You can't write everything down, you can't get your contracts done all the time in this business. There's 500 guys under contract. There's not even that many employees in the UFC. I think there's like 340 employees with 500 fighters. There's 53 shows scheduled for a year that only has 52 weeks in the year. You have to be able to make a phone call, count on whatever the guy says, hang up the phone and that's the end of it. You have to be able to do that.
Conor has a contract, he made a deal, somewhere he didn't sign it. Let the promotion go out, let the money get spent and then realized ‘I've got the upper hand. Now I can come back and renegotiate. Who's going to tell me no when the advertising is already done?' That's what he did. Guaranteed. With no inside knowledge, guaranteed that's what happened," Sonnen continued. "He might really be done...I don't know if he wants to be done. This was a negotiation tool. But he called the bluff of the wrong guys. These are gamblers man, there's rules in Vegas. If you say bet you have a bet. I mean that. You go to a casino, you don't put your money down, you tell the pit boss ‘I want that bet' if he yells the word bet you have a bet. And it goes both ways. If you win it he'll pay you...Anytime you go into a negotiation and you call someone's bluff, man you better mean it because this is what can happen. When you get beat up by a guy, and then you agree to fight him again, and then you pull out, it really doesn't matter after that. And the miscalculation here by Conor is he's not gonna be telling his side. He's gonna be telling his side to whoever.com. He's not gonna be telling it on FS1 or ESPN or anywhere else. Those days are gone. This was a big mistake."
