Max Holloway says a rematch with Conor McGregor was a real possibility just 1 month ago ... but after The Notorious took an L from Dustin Poirier, he's shifted his focus away from the Irish star.
"[Holloway vs. McGregor] was on a very short list for UFC if everything went well in [Conor's] last fight & it didn't," the 29-year-old Hawaiian told TMZ Sports in L.A.
"And I don't wanna kick a dog when it's down. At the end of the day, we'll see what happens."
McGregor defeated Holloway in a 3 round unanimous decision when they first clashed back in 2013 -- but Max has developed into one of the best fighters in the UFC & currently seems to be at the height of his powers.
He's coming off a DOMINANT victory over respect UFC feather Calvin Kattar in January where Max set a record for most significant strikes landed in a fight with 445!!!
McGregor, on the other hand, seems to be a shell of when he used to be. He's coming off a 2nd round knockout at the hands of Dustin Poirier.
Max & Conor seem to be on 2 different trajectories & Holloway seems to be more focused on fighting for a title than settling an old score.
So, who's next for Max? Most likely the winner of the Brian Ortega vs. Alex Volkanovski fight at UFC 260.
Volkanovski is the reigning featherweight champ & has already chalked up 2 victories over Holloway in the past few years.
Guessing Holloway wants a 3rd crack at Alex -- considering he already beat down Brian Ortega in 2018.
Bottom line ... we're down to watch Holloway fight any of these guys. Dude is unreal.

Vanessa Bryant says that Evan Rachel Wood calling her late husband Kobe Bryant a "rapist" the day he died is "vile" & "disturbing."
Hours after Kobe’s death on Jan. 26, 2020, the "Westworld" actress, 33, tweeted, "What has happened is tragic. I am heartbroken for Kobe’s family. He was a sports hero. He was also a rapist. And all of these truths can exist simultaneously."
Vanessa, 38, posted on Saturday to her Instagram Story that the tweet was just coming to her attention over a year later.
"Your false, insensitive, defamatory and slanderous tweet on 1/26/20 is vile & disturbing to say the least," the NBA player’s widow wrote over a screenshot of the original tweet. "Behavior like this is part of the reason why innocent black men go to jail for crimes they didn’t commit. An accusation doesn’t make someone guilty."
"YOU DON’T KNOW THE FACTS OF THE CASE," she added. Vanessa sent the same message to film producer Abigail Disney, who tweeted at the time, "The man was a rapist. Deal with it."
Kobe was accused of sexual assault in 2003 by a 19-year-old hotel employee in Colorado. Prosecutors dropped the charges after the accuser declined to testify. She later brought a civil case against the Los Angeles Laker, which was settled out of court in 2005.
JANGEBE, Nigeria (AP) — Families in Nigeria waited anxiously for news of their abducted daughters after more than 300 schoolgirls were kidnapped by gunmen from a government school in the country’s north last week, the latest in a series of mass school kidnappings in the West African nation.
Worried parents on Sunday gathered at the school, guarded by police. Aliyu Ladan Jangebe said his 5 daughters aged between 12 & 16 were at the school when the kidnappers stormed in. 4 were taken away but 1 escaped by hiding in a bathroom with three other girls.
“We are not in (a) good mood because when you have 5 children & you are able to secure (just) 1. We only thank God ... But we are not happy,” said Jangebe.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said the government’s priority is to get all the hostages returned safe & unharmed. Police & the military have begun joint operations to rescue the girls.
The girls’ abduction has caused international outrage.
Pope Francis decried the kidnapping & prayed for the girls’ quick release on Sunday.
“I pray for these girls, so that they may return home soon ... I am close to their families & to them,″ Francis said.
U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned the abductions & called for the girls’ “immediate & unconditional release.” He called attacks on schools a grave violation of human rights & the rights of children.
Nigeria has seen several such attacks in recent years. On Saturday, 24 students, 6 staff & 8 relatives were released after being abducted on February 17 from the Government Science College Kagara in Niger state. In December, more than 300 schoolboys from a secondary school in Kankara were taken & later released.
The most notorious kidnapping was in April 2014, when 276 girls were abducted by the jihadist rebels of Boko Haram from the secondary school in Chibok in Borno state. More than 100 of those girls are still missing.

MOUNT SINAI, Long Island (WABC) -- A Long Island cemetery employee leveling out the bottom of a grave was killed Thursday morning when the sides collapsed around him.
It happened around 8:30 a.m. at Washington Memorial Park on Canal Road in Mount Sinai.
Rodwin Allicock was buried in the more than 7 foot deep hole.
His co-workers attempted to dig him out, but they were unsuccessful.
Allicock, 42, of Coram, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Center.
Officers from the Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Section as well as Suffolk County Fire Rescue coordinators, representatives from the Suffolk County Department of Public Works, and members of the Middle Island Fire Department, Hagerman Fire Department, Selden Fire Department and Setauket Fire Department responded to the scene.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was notified and is investigating.
The cemetery has been serving Long Island and the New York metropolitan area for more than 50 years.
Emma Coronel Aispuro went back to being a brunette for her mug shot last week.
The glamorous beauty-queen wife of Mexico’s most notorious drug trafficker had last appeared in public as a blonde, her hair cascading down her bareback in a glamorous, white-lace wedding dress that she modeled for Mexican designer Benito Santos on Instagram. In another photo, she models a hip-hugging, sparkly purple gown.
But as she prepares to rat out high-ranking members of the Sinaloa cartel, including her own stepsons, Coronel Aispuro was forced into a more sober look in drab prison greens, her pouty lips free of red lipstick.
“She’s definitely cooperating,” a federal law enforcement source told The Post, adding that the wife of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman is a likely candidate for witness protection.
“Emma wants to get far away from the violence, & has always wanted to live in the US,” said the source. She was born in California & has dual US/Mexican citizenship.
Coronel Aispuro, 31, turned herself into authorities in Washington earlier this week & faces more than 10 years in prison if convicted on drug-trafficking charges. She is also accused of helping Guzman, 63, escape from a maximum-security Mexican prison in 2015, & helping to plan another escape before he was extradited to the US in 2017, according to court papers.

Andy Ruiz Jr has shown off his incredible body transformation online and he looks a completely different man.
The 31-year-old hasn't fought since losing to Anthony Joshua back in December 2019 and he came under criticism for his physique.
Since then, he's been on a mission to cut the weight with one eye on a return fight in 2021.
Ruiz Jr has taken to Instagram to give fans an update on his progress and he is noticeably slimmer.
It was revealed last month that Ruiz has teamed up with Canelo Alvarez's trainer Eddy Reynoso to "get back on the right track."
He said: "I'm working hard preparing for whoever is next. Thank God we are on the right track.
"It's hard. I've never done this in my entire life. I never lifted weights. I never had a physical trainer like them. It's time to run. It's time to get it back. It's time to work hard."
Reynoso told Behind The Gloves: “It’s about 20lbs.
“And he also has more muscle. He’s not as fat as he was before," Reynosa added. "He can move his hips a lot better and that helps him move around in the ring. He’s working really hard. He’s trying to fight in April, but it’s not confirmed yet. The change has helped, coming into this camp. We know that he can do well and I can assure you he will be world champion again.”

Ice Cube is just as pissed as you are that there hasn't been a "Friday" sequel in nearly 20 years, & he's blaming Warner Bros for blocking the franchise.
Cube just fired a shot at WB on Twitter, claiming the media giant is refusing to hand him the reins on the "Friday" franchise to make more sequels, & thus hijacking the "happiness of the culture."
Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... Ice Cube has been really pissed off with how he's been treated by Warner Bros through the years, & the dispute over more sequels is just the tip of the iceberg -- no pun intended.
Our sources say WB owns the rights to the 'Friday' franchise & the studio doesn't seem interested in making any more sequels at the moment. The OG "Friday" was released in 1995, followed by 2000's "Next Friday" and 2002's "Friday After Next."
We're told Cube is pissed because Warner Bros is refusing to release the rights to him so he can produce sequels somewhere else ... & our sources say Cube feels like the 'Friday' franchise is his art, & if WB doesn't want to make more movies they should give him the rights so he can.

The deliveries have been ongoing all over the city on Friday, and include truckloads of bottled water.
As you may know ... Travis is a Houston native and is regularly looking out for his hometown, including the huge toy drive he held for the holidays. His Cactus Jack Foundation also recently launched a scholarship program to help teens in furthering their education.
