A 27-year-old woman whose body was found in a lagoon in Puerto Rico was a companion of lightweight boxer Felix Verdejo, who turned himself in to federal agents on Sunday night.
The body of Keishla Rodriguez was found a couple of days after she was reported missing. She was identified Sunday via dental records, Puerto Rico's Institute of Forensic Science said in a statement.
A criminal complaint filed by the FBI accuses Verdejo of punching Rodriguez in the face & injecting her with a syringe filled with an unidentified substance bought at a public housing complex. It alleges that he then bound her arms & feet with wire & tied a heavy block to her before throwing her off a bridge at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
The complaint states that Verdejo then shot at Rodriguez's body as he stood on the bridge. The complaint says a witness it did not identify helped Verdejo kidnap & kill Rodriguez.
FBI spokeswoman Limary Cruz told The Associated Press that the federal agency was filing charges that would soon be announced. Meanwhile, the U.S. Attorney's Office said no decision had been made whether to pursue the death penalty.
Verdejo & his attorneys previously declined comment, & police said the boxer did not originally cooperate & refused to answer questions.
Rodriguez's family has said she was pregnant with Verdejo's child. Keila Ortiz, the woman's mother, told reporters that her daughter had called her before she vanished Thursday and told her Verdejo was going to her house to see the results of a pregnancy test.
Verdejo is married but has known Rodriguez since middle school & had kept in touch with her, her parents said. They reported her missing after she didn't show up to work at an animal grooming business.
Verdejo (27-2, 17 KOs) is a former Olympian who represented Puerto Rico in 2012. His professional career was temporarily sidetracked after he was hospitalized following a motorcycle crash in 2016.

A man was filling up his tank when a group of thugs approached, hoping to hijack him but thanks to his ability to think on his feet, the thugs ended up being the ones running in fear.
In the short clip, the man can be seen filling up what looks like a BMW when a group of men stopped a taxi next to his car, the group then jumps out of the car and run towards the innocent man, he quickly reacts and starts spraying fuel all over the thugs and they all run for cover, abandoning their mission.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Brandy Parker-McFadden sits in her Vanderbilt hospital bed, unable to stand.
“Our youngest is like – are you ever going to walk again? We just reassure him this is extremely rare.”
The mother of three received her second Pfizer COVID shot on April 16. Hours later, an unusual sensation started in her legs.
“Then it turned into a horrible neck pain, and it just kept getting worse and worse,” recounted Brandy.
Her husband James knew something was terribly wrong. “She was screaming in pain. She is one that is pretty stoic. That’s what created the sense of urgency.”
James rushed Brandy to the emergency room at Vanderbilt, and then the unimaginable happened.
“I woke up. I can’t move my arms. I can’t move my legs. So, he’s freaking out. The doctors are panicking,” Brandy recalled.
“I’m holding her hand, and her hand is limp throughout the whole thing while she’s screaming in pain,” remembers James, “And all the test results are coming back negative.”
Ten days later, Brandy is able to move her arms again and wiggle her toes. She will now undergo intensive physical therapy, hoping to walk again.
“I’m going to fight. I’m a fighter,” Brandy said with a determined look.
Brandy wants to be very clear; she isn’t saying don’t get your vaccine. She wants people to be aware of the signs and speak up if they don’t feel well.
“If you’re hesitant, I tell people to call your doctors because it is extremely rare.”
News 2 reached out to Pfizer. The company released the following statement:
“We take adverse events that are potentially associated with our COVID-19 vaccine, BNT162b2, very seriously. We closely monitor all such events and collect relevant information to share with global regulatory authorities. At this time, our ongoing review has not identified any safety signals with paralysis and the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine.
To date, more than 200* million people around the world have been vaccinated with our vaccine. It is important to note that serious adverse events that are unrelated to the vaccine are unfortunately likely to occur at a similar rate as they would in the general population.”

Jay-Z's 6-year flip of Tidal's streaming service is complete -- he just closed the deal to sell the majority of the company to Square for $350 million ... a pretty good return on his initial investment.
Square, the financial services company owned by Jay's pal, Jack Dorsey, is now firmly in the music streaming biz. Jack had announced back in March that he planned to take Tidal off Jay's hands, but sources familiar tell TMZ they just closed the deal Friday morning.
Remember, Jay-Z launched Tidal back in 2015 for $56 million in a partnership with several artists, including Beyonce, Rihanna, Kanye West, Madonna, Alicia Keys, Calvin Harris, Chris Martin and others.
For its $350 mil ... Square gets 80% ownership of Tidal, along with licensing deals with the major record labels and all the artists/owners will remain with the company too.
We're told Jay and Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez, who helped broker the deal, will stay on board to help run Tidal.
Over the last year we've seen Jay and Jack hanging out several times -- sometimes sipping wine together in the Hamptons -- and now we know what they're discussing ... major tycoon stuff.
Jay's made serious bank of his Tidal investment. He'd previously sold 33% of it to Sprint back in 2017 for an undisclosed amount.
As Jay-Z famously said almost 20 years ago, he's not a businessman ... he's a business, man!!!
Two teenagers died and an 18-year-old is charged with murder after young people argued on social media, a fight broke out and the young man opened fire Sunday in Springfield, Virginia, police say.
Neither the names nor the ages of the two teens who died were released by police, per state law. They were both under 18, police say.
Zachary Burkard was charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony after the killings in the 8000 block of Winding Way Court, in a Northern Virginia subdivision.
Fairfax County police said that according to the initial investigation, “there was a previous argument through social media between the involved parties. As a result, four teenagers went to the home to talk to someone who lived there.”
A fight broke out at the house. Burkard “emerged from the home” and shot the two teens at about 3:20 p.m.
One victim was found in the garage with gunshot wounds to the upper body. Medics declared the victim dead at the scene.
The second victim was found in front of the house with a gunshot wound to the upper body. That victim was taken to a hospital and later died.
Burkard stayed at the house and was taken into custody. A gun was found.
No information was released on why the suspect and victims may have argued. The investigation is ongoing and detectives continue to interview witnesses.
