Kanye West has made a masterpiece with his 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' album. Rolling Stone writer Reb Sheffield has given the album the highest rating of 5 stars. Check out his review below. When Kanye West sings about "jerk-offs that’ll never take work off," you’d best believe he means himself. Being crazy is this guy’s job, and judging from the sound of his music, business is booming. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is his most maniacally inspired music yet, coasting on heroic levels of dementia, pimping on top of Mount Olympus. Yeezy goes for the grandeur of stadium rock, the all-devouring sonics of hip-hop, the erotic gloss of disco, and he goes for all of it, all the time. Nobody halfway sane could have made this album. Last time, Kanye went minimal for the electro melancholia of 808s & Heartbreak. But on Fantasy, he gets ridiculously maximal, blowing past all the rules of hip-hop and pop, even though, for the past half-decade, he’s been the one inventing the rules. There are hip-hop epics, R&B ballads, alien electronics, prog-rock samples, surprise guests from Bon Iver to Fergie to Chris Rock, even a freaking Elton John piano solo. It’s his best album, but it’s more than that — it’s also a rock-star manifesto for a downsizing world. At a time when we all get hectored about lowering our expectations, surrendering our attention spans, settling for less, West wants us to demand more. Nobody else is making music this daring and weird, from the spooky space funk of "Gorgeous" to the King Crimson-biting "Power" to the paranoid staccato strings of "Monster." Nearly six minutes into "Runaway," long after the song has already sealed itself in your brain, the sound cuts out and you think it’s over. Then there’s a plinking piano, the feedback of an electric guitar plugging in, some "Strawberry Fields"-style cellos and Yeezy himself singing a poignant Robert Fripp-style solo through his vocoder. There’s no way it should work, but it keeps rolling for three more minutes without breaking the spell. Coming off a string of much-publicized emotional meltdowns, Yeezy is taking a deeper look inside the dark corners of his twisted psyche. He has sex and romance on his mind, but he comes clean about his male angst like never before. In confessions like "Runaway" and "Blame Game," he honestly struggles to figure out why he has to be such a douchebag. Yet the songs are also his funniest ever, with Kanye showing off lethal wit on the mic: In "Dark Fantasy," he rhymes "mercy, mercy me, that Murcielago" with "diablo," "bravado" and "My chick in that new Phoebe Philo/So much head, I woke up in Sleepy Hollow." There’s a famous story about Queen making "Bohemian Rhapsody": Whenever the band thought the song was finished, Freddie Mercury would say, "I’ve added a few more ‘Galileos’ here, dear." But nobody can out-Galileo Kanye. With Fantasy, he makes everybody else on the radio sound laughably meek, but he’s also throwing down a challenge to the audience. Kanye West thinks you’re a moron if you settle for artists who don’t push as hard as he does. And that means pretty much everybody. twitter-5d.gif

Lil Wayne might have a fifth child and it's going to take a court ordered paternity test to sort things out. TMZ is reporting that a Missouri woman served the rapper with papers while he was still in Rikers Island. The date for the DNA test for the now 8-year old child is set for no later than December 9. The strange part of the story is that it is the child's grandmother pushing for the paternity test. The biological mom is not listed in the court documents. There was no explanation given as to why the mom isn't involved. twitter-5d.gif

Eminem has had a tremendously successful 2010 by all accounts 'Recovery' is by far the most popular album of the year, his Home and Home concerts with Jay-Z have been called the greatest hip hop shows ever by some, and he's overcome a drug habit that nearly killed him. He still battles with trust issues though, when it comes to women and people in general. In an interview with Andy Greene of Rolling Stone, Em talks about how hard it is to close to him. "I have trust issues. With women, friends, whatever. You always wonder what their real motives are. I’ve got a small circle of friends, and it’s a lot of the same friends I’ve known forever. Right now, that works for me. I came out of some difficult things these past couple of years. I kind of feel like I’m just now finding my footing. So I want to make sure that’s secure before I go out and do anything else. I need to keep working on myself for a while." Eminem is one of those rare artists who has literally written his life story in songs. His troubled childhood and marriage have been well documented on his albums. But you still get the feeling there is a lot you will never get to know about Marshall Mathers. Will there ever be another special woman in his life? It's probably way too soon to answer that question, but for now, dating is not even an option. "As far as going out, like dinner and a movie—I just can’t. Going out in public is just too crazy. I mean, I’d like to be in a relationship again someday. Who doesn’t? It’s just hard to meet new people, in my position." twitter-5d.gif

Suge Knight is looking for a big payday. He'll have to get it from someone other than Kanye West, at least for now. Knight filed a lawsuit against West seeking $1 million dollars after being shot in the leg at a 2005 party. At some point during the party, some let off a shot that hit Knight in the leg shattering his femur and causing him to lose a diamond ring. Suge blamed a lack of security for the incident which took place at the Shore Club in Miami Beach. The judge in the case dismissed it Thursday November 4, citing a lack of evidence. Suge plans to appeal the decision. twitter-5d.gif

In some ways the rap game has gone from sugar to sh*t. Keeping it real isn't what it used to be. Back in the day rappers had to stand for something. That didn't mean being a killer or hustler, it simply meant being who you said you were or else fans would reject you, just ask Vanilla Ice. These days fans don't care so much about that. A guy can for example be an ex correctional officer, then the next thing you know make records claiming to be the world's biggest drug dealer, And nobody cares as long as the music sounds good. There are still a few real rappers left in the game though. G-Unit General 50 Cent is probably the realest, so he knows the genuine thing when he sees it. He talked to XXL in their latest issue about how the game has changed and a couple of artists who he respects. “When I offer aggression, I offer it from an author, a real place,” Fif told XXL co-deputy editor Rondell Conway. “It’s who I am; it’s who I had to be. Not even by choice, but to survive where I came from. So a lot of actual artists don’t have it. They don’t have that thing. Waka Flocka, ‘Hard in the Paint,’ Gucci [Mane], those guys have that.”It’s just a lot of the other artists, I don’t believe them,” he continued. “I believe hip-hop is in a struggle of being artistic or [having] authenticity—which one matters? Because a lot of them that write music that has a street-life theme to it haven’t actually been exposed to very much of that. It’s starting to feel like it doesn’t matter. I’m watching it, and I’m like, Okay, it sounded great, but ya lyin’.” That's real talk from a man who came up the hard way and made it to the top, but never stopped being a real a** n*gga in the process. Pick up the November 2010 issue of XXL to read the rest of 50's interview. twitter-5d.gif
