Video After The Jump

Via MTV

It was magnificent from beginning to end. From its deep soul-rattling bass and conga drums and its unforgettable opening line to its vividly wild video, Busta Rhymes' "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See" was the perfect hip-hop joint. Catchy enough to be commercial and creative enough to be respected, it's the type of track for which the stars have to align just right before it is even recorded.

It all started 15 years ago with some caring criticism from Q-Tip and Sean "Diddy" Combs. "They were in there talking to me about why I'm 'screaming' on every record," Busta recalled to MTV News last month, referring to a conversation that he and his rap compadres were having in Diddy's storied Daddy's House studio in New York City.

Back then, Busta, the fire-breathing, self-proclaimed Dungeon Dragon, was best-known for his rambunctious rants on record. Busta's roaring guest verse on A Tribe Called Quest's classic single "Scenario" and his bellowing ad libs on "Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check" went a long way in cementing the MC as a certified riot starter. But on 1997's "Put Your Hands," he deliberately went in a new direction.

Diddy and Q-Tip may have sparked the idea, but it was an old-timer in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, who inspired Busta's monotone flow. As Bussa Buss explains it, people in the predominantly West Indian neighborhood would consistently use the word 'Yo' at the beginning and/or end of every sentence to sound more Americanized. "Yo Busta let me hold $5 yo, wassup yo, you chillin' yo,'" Bus mimicked.

As soon as the charismatic power MC heard the beat, which was produced by his friends Shamellow and Buddah, he knew that he had to take Tip and Puff's advice and deliver something much different than his previous work. "Hit you wit no delayin', so what you sayin' yo/ Silly wit my nine milly, what the dealy yo," Bus spit, breathing those now classic words on the track.

"That was the beat that felt like the right beat to experiment with that calm vocal tone," he said of the track, which samples Seals and Crofts' 1976 song "Sweet Green Fields." "So I took that and I went to the studio and combined that with the calm flow."

The record, which was officially released as a single in August 1997, was a hit, peaking at #2 on Billboard's Hot R&B/ Hip-Hop Songs chart and even bringing Busta a Grammy nomination. Sonically, Bus had delivered something unforgettable, but what he did with the video would rank him as one of hip-hop's greatest visual artists.

The Hype Williams-directed clip drew its chief inspiration from Eddie Murphy's 1988 comedy "Coming to America." While Busta's engineers were mixing down "Put Your Hands," the film played on the studio's television on mute, sparking grand ideas. "Things were happening in the scene as the movie was playing that was so perfectly matching what was going on with the record," Busta recalled.

The result was an over-the-top music video with regal costume changes, tribal-influenced choreography, Day-Glo body paint and an elephant. "That visual gave us the same feeling that the record was giving us ... and it was a marriage made in heaven," Busta said.

As for Diddy and Q-Tip's reaction, "They really made me feel like I made the best record in my life at that time," Busta remembered.

It seems like Lindsay Lohan just can't stay out of trouble. At one point the actress had a promising career in Hollywood, but now she's in the news more for getting into sticky situations with the law.

In her latest episode Lohan has officially been named as a suspect in the theft of $100,000 worth of watches and sunglasses from her friend Sam Magid's L.A. home a week ago. Lohan says she is being framed and blames the theft on Andrew Knight, a man claiming to be Suge Knight'sson.

Andrew Knight

According to TMZ, Magid has been in touch with Knight and 1 other friend of Lohon's. They told him that on the night of the burglary Lohan "handed them a bag with 2 or 3 pieces of the stolen items wrapped in her t-shirt. The 2 men returned the items to Magid. Other items were still missing."

Knight has been interviewed by police. They apparently believe his story because Lohan is the target of the investigation.

Magid has been in touch with Lohan. She told him that she was on Ambien on the night of the theft, but remembers hiding some of the missing items around his house so they wouldn't be stolen by burglars.

Magid added that Lohan told him, "I'm sorry. Please pray for me."

Lohan is currently on probation for stealing a necklace at a Venice jewelry store. She could be headed back to jail if found guilty of this latest burglary.

Forbes has rolled out it's list of the top-5 highest paid celebrities as ranked from May 2011 to May 2012. The list has some familiar faces and one big surprise.

Oprah Winfrey came in at the top spot with $165 million earned. Take a look at the rest of the list below as well as how the list is determined.

To determine who the highest-paid celebrities are, we considered upfront pay, profit participation, residuals, endorsements and advertising work. We talked to manager, agents, lawyers and other in-the-know folks to come up with our estimates. We did not deduct for things like agent fees or the expenses related to being a celebrity.

No. 1 Oprah Winfrey

$165 million
The media mogul's earnings fell by a staggering $125 million from last year. However, even with the drop, she remains the highest earner on the list, just inching out director Michael Bay. It's been a challenging year for Winfrey, who signed off from her 25-year syndicated show and immediately turned her attention to struggling cable network OWN. The bulk of the earnings dive comes from lost income on The Oprah Winfrey Show, but her diversified portfolio includes O: The Oprah Magazine, spin-off shows like The Dr. Oz Show and a radio deal with Sirius. She does not earn a salary at OWN, which has faced ratings disappointments and financial issues since it premiered in Jan. 2011. As chairman and CEO of the joint venture with Discovery Communications, she hopes a recent restructuring, new programming and a distribution deal with Comcast will turn the network around.

12349452698?profile=original

No. 2 Michael Bay

$160 million
Bay nabs the title of top-earning director this year thanks to Transformers:Dark of the Moon. The 3-D film brought in $1.1 billion at the box office. Bay has a great deal on the films, taking a solid chunk of the profits. He also earns big from Transformer toys. Adding to Bay's coffers this year: a Transformers ride at Universal Studios in Hollywood. Bay has earned the right to finally do a small film. Pain & Gain has a budget well under $50 million.

12349453672?profile=original

No. 3 Steven Spielberg

$130 million
Spielberg's DreamWorks moved into television in a big way this year with four new shows, including Terra Nova and Smash. On top of that, the prolific producer stepped back into directing with two movies that hit theaters last Christmas, The Adventures of Tintin and War Horse. Both films were nominated for Oscars.

12349453866?profile=original

No. 4 Jerry Bruckheimer

$115 million
Bruckheimer's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was one of the highest-grossing films of 2011, bringing in $1 billion at the global box office. That was a nice change from 2010 for Bruckheimer, when his two big films, Prince of Persia and The Sorcerer's Apprentice stumbled at the box office. In the new Hollywood, though, even Bruckheimer can't get away with an out-of-control budget. Disney made everyone take big cuts for The Lone Ranger.

12349454473?profile=original

No. 5 Dr. Dre

$110 million
The ageless super-producer's latest hit isn't a song, but rather a line of headphones. In August handset maker HTC paid $300 million for a 51% stake in Beats by Dr. Dre, the headphone company he co-founded with Interscope chief Jimmy Iovine in 2006. Each owned about a third of the company, pocketing about $100 million apiece, before taxes, from last summer's deal.

Black Hippy member Kendrick Lamar isn't afraid to go against the grain with his opinions. The Compton rapper was recently interviewed by TruthisScary.com and had some interesting takes on the political process and man's exploration of outer space.

My vote counts? I don’t do no voting. I will keep it straight up real with you. I don’t believe in none of the sh*t that’s going on in the world,” Kendrick said. “If you talk with me, you'll be talking to me for hours because everything has a contradiction, everything is higher rankings and way beyond us, way beyond people. So basically, do what you do, do good with your people and live your life because what’s going on isn’t really in our hands. If it's not in the president's hands then it's definitely not in yours. When I say the president can’t even control the world, then you definitely know there’s something else that's out there that's really pushing the buttons. They could do whatever they want to do. Been doing it for years, we all puppets. Just play your cards right.”

12349461066?profile=original

When asked if he thought man really landed on the moon Kendrick said he didn't think so.

"Man, probably not, I wouldn't care. I'm trying to land in a motherf*cking mansion," he said. "All that other sh*t is beyond me. I think motherf*ckers should start focusing on what they need to do in life and not worrying about the word, then they will make their situation a better place. But we constantly stress ourselves trying to figure this sh*t out. Believe in God, there's only one God. F*ck all that religious sh*t. Believe in one God and do right. Try your best to do right. We aint perfect, so just do that and everything will be straight. But as far as worrying about the man on the moon and all that other bullsh*t, it's irrelevant. It's 2012 and that's how I'm thinking right now."

SH sat down with Rap-Up recently to talk about how good their new album welcome to: Our Houseturned out, how much they have learned from Eminem and more.

Talib Kweli is preparing to release his new mixtape Attack the Block. To day he gives us another glimpse of what to expect from the project with "Fly Away" featuring Jessica Care Moore.

So I’m starting to get excited about this mix tape I did with the homie Z-Trip, Attack The Block. We will release it one week from today, but I want y’all to be as excited as I am so I am releasing another preview. There was a great response to To The Music last week, so I hope y’all enjoy this one as well..Shout out to Jessica Care Moore for the incredible poem at the end. And calling Attack The Block a mere mix tape is not doing it justice. These rappers these days put out anything and call it a mix tape. Not me. Z-Trip is a true master. This is a mix tape you can put on in any situation and let rock. Get ready for cutting, scratching, and thoughtfulness on a mix tape. Attack The Block. 9-12.
