OJ Simpson, the former American footballer who was controversially cleared of double murder, has died aged 76.
Orenthal James Simpson rose to fame as a college footballer before playing in the NFL.
In 1995, he was acquitted of the murder of his former wife Nicole Brown & a friend in a trial that gripped America.
In 2008, he was sentenced to 33 years' imprisonment on charges of armed robbery. He was released in 2017.
Simpson died of cancer on Wednesday.
In 1994, Simpson was arrested as a suspect in the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown & her friend Ron Goldman. The ensuing trial was one of the most notorious in 20th Century America. Prosecutors argued Simpson killed Brown in a jealous fury. Evidence presented in the trial included blood, hair and fibre tests linking Simpson to the murders.
The defense argued Simpson had been framed by police motivated by racism.
The jury ultimately sided with Simpson, who declared he was "absolutely 100% not guilty". The acquittal proved hugely controversial.
In 2008, he was convicted of armed robbery. He was sentenced to 33 years in jail, but was granted parole after serving the minimum of nine years.
He played football at USC college before being signed to the Buffalo Bills NFL team in 1969, where he played until 1977.

Former Baltimore Ravens star Terrell Suggs was arrested Tuesday in Arizona, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office announced, and the longtime NFL standout faces charges of assault and offense against public order.
Suggs, 41, made an initial court appearance early Wednesday over allegations of instigating a road-rage incident in Scottsdale, according to 3TV (Arizona's Family). The judge reportedly ordered a supervised release for Suggs.
While Suggs is best known for his long run with the Ravens, he has strong ties to the Arizona area, starring for Hamilton High School in Chandler before attending Arizona State. He also had a one-year stint with the Arizona Cardinals in 2019.
A two-time Super Bowl champion and seven-time Pro Bowler, Suggs is one of the most accomplished defensive players in NFL history. Drafted 10th overall by Baltimore in 2003, he officially ranks eighth among all-time players in career sacks (139) and had seven different seasons with double-digit sacks. A former Defensive Player of the Year who was also inducted into the Ravens' Ring of Honor, he retired in 2020 following a brief stint with the title-winning Kansas City Chiefs.

Responding to questions about raids on Diddy's homes in both Miami and Los Angeles, Yayo highlighted the pitfalls of being in the public eye. He suggested that entertainers are often under more scrutiny when things go wrong. Yayo also alleged that during their encounter, 50 Cent deliberately kept his distance from Diddy, who was reportedly intimidated by Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff. Furthermore, Yayo reminisced about the underlying tension between Diddy and 50 Cent, stating that few people truly understand the dynamics of their relationship.
