Houston Chronicle - A Houston rapper was accused of kidnapping the mother of his children, locking her in a closet & sexually assaulting her before he was arrested on 2 separate assault charges over the weekend.
State prosecutors in Harris County charged Warren Brown, who also goes by Cartel Bo, with aggravated kidnapping following his arrest on Saturday for the alleged assaults. They had filed charges of family violence assault & assault causing bodily injury more than a week earlier on Friday, July 17, but court documents show no record of an arrest before the following weekend.
Brown has over 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify & released his debut album in 2018 before dropping another pair in the past 2 years.
Court records allege Brown abducted the woman on Tuesday & would check on her hourly, refusing to let her leave. He was charged with the kidnapping on Sunday — one day after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting the same woman & her Uber driver in June.
Harris County constable deputies said they found the woman earlier this week, several days after she was abducted. The deputies responded on Monday to a welfare call at the property where the kidnapping allegedly occurred.
She had already escaped after breaking free from a locked closet while wearing handcuffs. A neighbor who found her fed the woman & called law enforcement. Officers found her at a nearby Waffle House. She was still in handcuffs She was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
Brown was booked in Harris County jail on Saturday, originally charged with the 2 assaults, & he's now being held without bail because of the later kidnapping charge.
Police found zip ties inside the Cypress home & a deadbolt lock on the closet. Fast food wrappers were also inside the closet when police arrived.
In the recent assault cases, he's accused of beating the woman & an Uber driver who defended her during a fight outside a Houston recording studio in June.
