43-year old Eric Garner was a married father of six with two grandchildren. He died Thursday, July 17, after being put in a chokehold and held down by at least five NYPD officers.
According to the New York Daily News, cops approached Garner after they say he was seen selling untaxed cigarettes on a Staten Island street. Garner denied the accusation and was backed up by witness Ramsey Orta, who filmed the incident.
“I didn’t do sh*t!” Garner told the officers from the 120th Precinct when they approached him. “I was just minding my own business. Every time you see me you want to mess with me. I’m tired of it. It stops today!”

Orta says Garner had just broken up a fight between three men prior to police arriving on the scene and was not selling cigarettes.
“They jumped him and they were choking him. He was foaming at the mouth,” Orta told The News. “And that’s it, he was done. The cops were saying, ‘No, he’s OK, he’s OK.” He wasn’t OK.”
Cops soon swarmed Garner, putting him in a choke hold and forcing him to the ground. The 400-pound man tells them "I can't breathe" nine times. He was not armed at the time.
Garner later died at the hospital. His wife, Esaw, told the New York Daily News that the NYPD killed her husband for no reason.
“When I kissed my husband this morning, I never thought it would be for the last time,” she said.. “I saw him with his eyes wide open and I said, ‘Babe, don’t leave me, I need you.’ But he was already gone, They’re covering their asses, he was breaking up a fight. They harassed and harassed my husband until they killed him,”

Outrage is mounting over the death of Eric Garner on Thursday, July 17 The 43-year old man died after being put in a chokehold that is outlawed in New York City. by NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo. Other cops on the scene hold Garner down while he repeatedly says, "I can't breathe."

Pantaleo was stripped of his badge and gun and placed on modified duty Saturday, pending the outcome of the dual probes by the district attorney and Internal Affairs. He is an eight-year veteran.
Reverend Al Sharpton matched with demonstrators outside of the Staten Island precinct on Saturday. A memorial was set up at the scene of Garner's death.
While lying motionless on the concrete Garner didn't receive any medical attention from officers or EMT's who arrived on the scene for seven minutes, according to the New York Daily News. He was eventually transported to the hospital, where he was declared dead. Authorities believe Garner suffered a heart attack, but the city’s medical examiner would not confirm preliminary findings. Garner had been accused of selling cigarettes.
"The issue is not whether one was selling cigarettes. The issue was how an unarmed man was subjected to a chokehold, and the result is he is no longer with us," Sharpton said.

"It is too early to jump to any conclusions about this case--we must wait for all the facts and details of the incident to emerge," Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

Wherever Katt Williams goes trouble seems to follow. The controversial comedian and actor is facing a lawsuit from his tour manager, according to TMZ.
Mark Williams claims that Katt punched him in May "with such force and power that he was rendered unconscious for a period of 90 seconds."
Katt was "wearing his diamond rings which served as a brass knuckles weapon," according to the suit. Mark suffered head injuries, a loose tooth, a concussion and facial injuries.
The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles. No information on what sort of compensation Mark is looking for was revealed.

Footage of a then unknown 19-year old Kanye West making what possibly could have been his first public performance just surfaced. One thing is clear as you listen to Yeezy spit, the dude's been nice with it.
DJ Eclipse uploaded the footage to YouTube and gave some interesting background information on it.
The original location of Fat Beats launched on July 14, 1994 which means FB just turned 20 years old! Business was doing so well 2 years in that Joseph Abajian decided to move the store from it's small 9th St. basement space into a 2nd floor location on 6th Avenue. August 1996 (day?) was the grand opening of the 406 6th Avenue location. It was also the beginnings of our independent movement which had recently started bubbling about a year before. Yesterday I started converting old Hi8 video tapes to DVD and came across some interesting footage from that day. Now we had a lot of the usual suspects in the place that day such as ILL BILL, Arsonists, Lord Finesse, Adagio, Breeze Brewin, A.L. Skills, Percee P, J-Live, Mr. Live, Chino XL, Al Tariq, Black Attack, Xzibit, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Rawcotiks, Ak Skills, Rob Swift, Roc Raida, DJ Spinna and many, many more. But what took me by surprise was the appearance of this 19 year old kid who at that time nobody knew. Now I've had this person as a guest on my radio show years later, but it's pretty crazy to see this footage in '96 and think "damn, this dude was in my house then?" and not even know. TMZ caught up with D.L. Hughley to get his opinion on Dwight Howard and Rihanna's recent #FreePalestine tweets. The comedian and actor had an interesting take on the topic.
"I don't think they know what it means. But I think that people's reaction to it is amazing," Hughley said. "I guess Dwight Howard did it. I think it's interesting how people deem that a racist political statement. I don't know if I would go that far. And I don't think people should care what anybody else thinks."
Does D.L. believe Rihanna and Howard's excuses that the tweets were sent by accident?
"I think that they did it on purpose, then found out there are repercussions," he added. "And now don't like dealing with them."

Jason Biggs is in the middle of a hail storm of hate on social media after making a joke that offended many. In the wake of a Malaysian Airlines passenger flight being shot down in Ukraine on Thursday, July 17, killing all 295 people aboard, the 36-year old actor thought he was being funny, but fell flat.
"Anyone wanna buy my Malaysian Airlines frequent flier miles?" he wrote.
Twitter user's reactions were swift and harsh.
Instead of apologizing Biggs fired back at his detractors. Calling them "pussies" and losers."

KIEV, Ukraine (Associated Press) — A Ukrainian official said a passenger plane carrying 295 people was shot down Thursday over a town in the east of the country, and Malaysia Airlines tweeted that it lost contact with one of its flights over Ukrainian airspace.
Malaysia Airlines has lost contact of MH17 from Amsterdam. The last known position was over Ukrainian airspace. More details to follow.
— Malaysia Airlines (@MAS) July 17, 2014Anton Gerashenko, an adviser to Ukraine's interior minister, said on his Facebook page the plane was flying at an altitude of 10,000 meters (33,000 feet). He also said it was hit by a missile fired from a Buk launcher, which can fire missiles up to an altitude of 22,000 meters (72,000 feet).
The fate of the passengers wasn't immediately known.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said his country's armed forces didn't shoot at any airborne targets.
"We do not exclude that this plane was shot down, and we stress that the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not take action against any airborne targets," he said. "We are sure that those who are guilty in this tragedy will be held responsible."
Malaysia Airlines said on its Twitter feed that it "has lost contact of MH17 from Amsterdam. The last known position was over Ukrainian airspace." The plane's destination was Kuala Lumpur.
It was the second time that a Malaysia Airlines plane was lost in less than six months. Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared in March while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. It has not been found, but the search has been concentrated in the Indian Ocean far west of Australia.
The Donetsk region government said Thursday's plane crashed near a village called Grabovo, which it said is currently under the control of armed pro-Russian separatists. The region where the flight was lost has seen severe fighting between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russia separatist rebels in recent days.
A launcher similar to the Buk missile system was seen by Associated Press journalists near the eastern Ukrainian town of Snizhne earlier Thursday.
On Wednesday evening, a Ukrainian fighter jet was shot down by an air-to-air missile from a Russian plane, Ukrainian authorities said Thursday, adding to what Kiev says is mounting evidence that Moscow is directly supporting the separatist insurgents in eastern Ukraine. Security Council spokesman Andrei Lysenko said the pilot of the Sukhoi-25 jet hit by the air-to-air missile was forced to bail after his jet was shot down.
Pro-Russia rebels, meanwhile, claimed responsibility for strikes Wednesday on two Ukrainian Sukhoi-25 jets. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said the second jet was hit by a portable surface-to-air missile, but added the pilot was unscathed and managed to land his plane safely.
Moscow denies Western charges that is supporting the separatists or sowing unrest in its neighbor. The Russian Defense Ministry couldn't be reached for comment Thursday about the Ukrainian jet and Russia's foreign ministry didn't respond to multiple requests for comment.
Earlier this week, Ukraine said a military transport plane was shot down Monday by a missile fired from Russian territory.
The Malaysia Airlines plane is a Boeing 777-200ER, which was delivered to Malaysia Airlines on July 30, 1997, according to Flightglobal's Ascend Online Fleets, which sells and tracks information about aircraft. It has more than 43,000 hours of flight time and 6,950 takeoffs and landings.
If the plane was shot down, it would be the fourth commercial airliner to face such a fate. The previous three were:
— April 20, 1978: Korean Airlines Flight 902, which diverted from its planned course on a flight from Paris to Seoul and strayed over the Soviet Union. After being fired upon by an interceptor aircraft, the crew made a forced landing at night on the surface of a frozen lake. Two of the 97 passengers were killed by the hostile fire.
— Sept. 1, 1983: Korean Air Lines Flight 007 shot down by at least one Soviet air-to-air missile after the 747 had strayed into Soviet airspace. All 240 passengers and 29 crew were killed.
— July 3, 1988: Iran Air Flight 655 Aircraft was shot down by a surface to air missile from the American naval vessel U.S.S. Vincennes. All 16 crew and 274 passengers were killed.
