Mountain Dew announced last week that they were parting ways with Lil Wayne over his controversial lyrics about Emmett Till.

PepsiCo, Mountain Dew's parent company said in a statement late Friday that Wayne's "offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand."

Till's family is pleased with the company's decision. In the weeks leading up to it they had been hoping the soft drink giant would cut Wayne loose.

Over the weekend they issued a statement to AllHipHop.

Back in February, when I first heard the lyrics, I was in utter shock, disappointment and sadness.  Just as Mamie Till Mobley didn’t endure the pain of losing Emmett Till alone, many people have stood in solidarity with our family, even if it wasn’t the most popular stand to take," said Airickca Gordon-Taylor, Executive Director of Mamie Till Mobley Foundation. "The road less traveled is surely not the easiest but standing for your principles provides the endurance needed to fight for human and civil rights. This decision was monumental, we commend Mountain Dew for taking action towards better social responsibility, and now I finally feel that we can exhale and focus on our beloved Mamie Till Mobley’s charge. Let’s get on with the business of positive thinking and living."

This is beyond my expectations, I’m pleased that it happened and it shouldn’t waited for public outcry. Anything that belittles or degrades the memory of Emmett Till shouldn’t be in the public square,” said Simeon Wright, an eyewitness to Till's 1955 kidnapping. “Racism is still out there. Whatever you listen too, whatever you do, get an education. Don’t let this system destroy you."

Back in April Lil Wayne and Trick Daddy had a run in at Miami's King of Diamonds strip club. Trick Daddy was angry at Wayne for the disrespect he showed towards his city during Houston's NBA All-Star weekend in February.

The result was a lit cigarette being thrown into Weezy's dreads by a member of Da Mayor's entourage before King of Diamonds security separated the two groups.

All is still not well in Trick Daddy's eyes. The veteran emcee tells TMZ that Wayne has had him blackballed from all of the best topless clubs in Miami, which has left him feeling salty.

"If I [wanted to start sh*t with Lil Wayne, he would have been in the hospital for a different reason than a seizure," the "Shut Up" rapper said.

Cash Money Records CEO, Birdman is now stepping in hoping to diffuse the situation before it gets out of hand. Word is he's scheduled a sit-down between the two feuding artists with intentions of putting an end to the beef once and for all.

Hopefully they'll be able to settle this and move forward.

Video After The Jump

Scarface is one of the living legends in hip hop, but the art form wasn't his first love musically. He sat down with Vlad TV and revealed that rock artists like Kiss, Pink Floyd, Molly Hatchet and Rush were his early influences.

He said that at the time he started his career with Rap-A-Lot they weren't putting out rock music so he developed his mic skills.

"Hip hop was an outlet," Face explained. "Rap-A-Lot wasn't putting out no rock bands. So I had to rap."

12350039901?profile=original

He goes on to talk about his desire to work with Stevie Nicks, guitarists he likes, the next big artist coming out of Houston and predicts that hip hop will be 100% white in 25 years.

"Hip hop is gonna be white in 25 years," Face said. "It's gonna be all white kids. It's gonna be like rock and roll. You better f*cking believe it."

Lauryn Hill releases a new song as part of her recently inked deal with Sony RecordsNeurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)” can be purchased now on iTunes. Read what Lauryn had to say about the release below.

“Here is a link to a piece that I was ‘required’ to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline. I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have to rush the release of new music… but the message is still there.”
