Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was arrested Monday on a charge of attempted murder and booked into Santa Clara (California) County jail, the San Jose Police Department announced Tuesday morning.

Velasquez is being held without bail, per online records. He has a court date set for Wednesday.

The San Jose Police Department announced Monday evening that there was a shooting in the city near the intersection of Monterey Highway and Bailey Avenue. Police said one adult male was shot at least once and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. On Tuesday, police identified Velasquez as the shooter.

"The motives and circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation at this time," per the San Jose Police public information Twitter account.

Velasquez, 39, is a two-time former UFC heavyweight champion, holding the title in 2010 and 2011 and then again from 2012 to 2015. The California native is considered one of the top heavyweight fighters of all time. Velasquez retired from MMA in 2019 and has been coaching at his longtime gym, American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose.

After his run in the UFC, Velasquez took up professional wrestling, first in Mexico, where his parents were born, and then in WWE. He was released by WWE at the outset of the pandemic in 2020, but resurfaced for Mexican promotion AAA in December. The plan, sources said, was for him to wrestle more this year.

Honcho God moved to a small town in NC in 2009. Although he worked tirelessly to gain exposure there, it was slow-moving. In 2017, he took a leap of faith and relocated to Charlotte, NC. There, he was able to connect with various local artists, DJ’s, promoters, and the like to build a steady and supportive following. He returned to his roots in NJ for a short time, and put in major work - meeting and working with local artists, doing features, and learning about musical engineering; His sound is unique - where drill, delivery, and talent create a musical trifecta that we never knew we needed.

The Queen City is excited for his recent homecoming in April 2021, and looks forward to all that he has to share with this city and beyond. Brian Alan Smith, known better by his artistic name No One Will Know, is a producer, guitarist, bass player, rapper, and photographer, and vocalist. With a couple of best friends, who each play the guitar or drums, the artist practices his skills at the bass. However, his musical compositions are the product of an independent process, doing everything himself in his music studio.

A skilled instrumentalist, Smith plays the electric guitar, the bass, the snare and hi hat, while adding drum samples into the mix on his midi controller.
