One of the greatest football players in the history of the National Football League has announced his retirement.

Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens made the announcement yesterday that this season will be his last. In the age of free agency it is rare for a player to stay with one team for over a decade. In his 17 seasons in the league, Lewis has only worn a Ravens' jersey.

He is a lock to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. It can be argued that he is the best linebacker to ever set foot on a football field.

Lewis is a twelve-time Pro Bowl player. Seven-time All-Pro. Two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl MVP.

"God is calling," Lewis said. "My children have made the ultimate sacrifice for their father for 17 years. I don't want to see them do that no more. I've done what I wanted to do in this business, and now it's my turn to give them something back. Everything that starts has an end. For me, today, I told my team that this will be my last ride."

In your opinion is Lewis the best defensive player ever?
