Dogg (109)

Year after year passes and still no 'Detox' album from legendary producer Dr Dre. With his place in music history already cemented I think the time has come to seriously ask the question. Will there ever be a 'Detox' album? I'm not being cynical or critical of Andre Young at all when I pose this question. After all he is in my opinion the best producer in hip hop history. But as more time passes and the date of his final studio album's release keeps getting pushed further into the horizon it's starting to look like the album will never see the light of day. We all know he has enough quality music stashed in the vaults to release 10 albums at this point so why isn't there a firm release date? In a recent interview with British newspaper The Guardian he gave this answer as to when we will see 'Detox' "I'm working hard on it. I'm stopping to work on other artists in-between, but the minute it's done and I feel it right here," he says patting his heart, "that's when it will come out" He further added "I have to go out to clubs now, You need to understand what people are listening to." I think that sums it all up right there. When you have accomplished as much as Dr Dre has there isn't a need to go clubbing to see what garbage is being played. You don't follow trends, you set them yourself. When Dre dropped 'The Chronic' and 'Chronic 2001' they were albums that set the standard for every other artist. With the kind of beats you could ride and smoke to. We need that again from Dre. But the question remains, will he ever give it to us? Follow Me @Twitter.com/ChasinMoPaper

AllHipHop Reports British’s most watched TV channel has tightened its broadcasting procedures, after an unedited version of Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood reality show aired on the network. Box Television operates the popular 4Music channel, which airs Snoop’s reality series Father Hood in the United Kingdom. The show features Snoop, born Calvin Broadus Jr. and his wife Shante, as well as their children Corde (14), Cordell (12) and Cori (9) and cast of other characters. Father Hood focuses on Snoop Dogg’s domestic life, as opposed to his career as a world famous rap star who has been banned from Australia and the United Kingdom. Network watchdog Ofcom received hundreds of complaint when an unedited episode aired featuring the chart-topping rapper using the F-word twice during the show. Ofcom said viewers were very offended by Snoop’s unedited foul language and apologized for the mishap, claiming human error was to blame, as the wrong version was entered into the programming schedule. 4Music aired two apologies for running the unedited version of Father Hood, which Ofcom deemed appropriate, allowing the network to avoid any further penalties. “Ofcom notes that the broadcast of this language on this occasion occurred as a result of human error,” the organization wrote in its ruling. “While we have concerns about the broadcast of this material, in light of the actions taken by the broadcaster and its good compliance record in this area Ofcom considers this matter resolved.”

AllHipHop Reports Funk pioneer George Clinton will be honored at this year’s annual BMI Urban Awards ceremony organizers announced today (July 28). The event, which takes place in September, honors the top Urban songwriters that belong to BMI, one of the oldest performance rights organizations. Clinton will officially be named a “BMI Icon,” joining artists like James Brown, Little Richard, The Bee Gees, Willie Nelson, The Jackson, Al Green, rapper Reverend Run and numerous others. His songs with groups like Parliament, Funkadelic and The P. Funk All Stars have been sampled by countless rappers throughout the years, including Dr. Dre, Outkast, Snoop Dogg, EPMD and others. “Hip-Hop has helped keep funk alive,” Clinton told AllHipHop.com in a previous interview. “The parents finally started liking it because it had that P-funk in it. Then the kids started learning about the (original) P-funk. So you have two generations in Hip-Hop.” In addition to being honored, an all-star group of yet-to-be announced artists will take to the stage to salute Clinton. BMI President and Co-CEO Del Bryant will host the event along with BMI Atlanta VP of writer/publisher relations, Catherine Brewton. An album of unreleased music from Tupac Shakur will be among a series of new releases coming from WIDEawake Entertainment Group, the owner of Death Row Records. The Canada-based development company will allow music publisher EverGreen to serve as the worldwide administration company of Death Row via a recently signed deal. Under the long-term agreement, EverGreen will administer and handle licensing for all Death Row music catalog compositions and master recordings. In addition, the company will process all mechanical and performance royalties in the catalog. EverGreen’s rights to market, promote and collect royalties on all copyrights and master recordings in the Death Row catalog will be extended from the joint venture. Among the material affected will be more than 10,000 released and unreleased songs by Shakur, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound, Kurupt, Daz Dillinger and Nate Dogg as well as never-before released albums by Crooked I, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, RBX, The Lady of Rage, Warren G, K-Solo, Danny Boy and DJ Quik, among others. The WIDEawake/Evergreen alliance comes after WIDEawake's $18 million purchase of Death Row in January. In the coming months, the resuscitated label will release new music, including Shakur’s unreleased work. The release of the late rap icon’s material will commemorate Shakur’s birthday in 2010. Unreleased material from Shakur will not be the only music to surface from Death Row’s return. The label is gearing up to re-release Dr. Dre’s classic album The Chronic. The Chronic re-release, titled The Chronic Re-Lit, will include four unreleased bonus tracks as well as a DVD of never before seen video footage of Dr. Dre and other artists. The Chronic Re-Lit is slated to hit stores on September 1, while the Death Row box sets will arrive in time for the holidays. Source :ALLHIPHOP

A List Of The Best Rappers Over 30

A few Tuesday’s ago (May, 19th to be exact) we saw album releases from Busta Rhymes, Method Man & Redman, & of course, Eminem. This was so far the biggest release date of 2009. All three acts that I mentioned are veterans in the game and well respected by their peers. Another thing they have in common: They’re all over the age of 30. If you think about it, most of Hip-Hop’s elite are over the age of 30. I guess it’s no longer a young man’s game. So I was thinking, since you see a lot of lists with titles such as “25 Hottest Celebs Under 25” or “40 Richest Under 40”, why not The Best 30 Rappers Over 30? But for this list, we got set some ground rules. #1 of course is the most obvious; you gotta be over the age of 30 (That throws out people like Weezy, Lupe, Drake, & T.I.). #2, you have to be 30 as of this list (Both The Game & Joe Budden will be 30 this year, but aren’t as of yet). #3, you got to be active and releasing records with new material that relevant (Rakim & Big Daddy Kane are legends but they don’t make this list). Other than that, the only requirement is being 3-0 or older. So, here’s it: The Best 30 Rappers Over 30 (Ordered from oldest to youngest). 30 is the new 20! Did I forget anybody? Ice Cube (June 15, 1969) - 39 Jay-Z (December 4, 1969) - 39 Raekwon (January 12, 1970) – 39 Q-Tip (April 10, 1970) - 39 Redman (April 17, 1970) - 39 Ghostface Killah (May 9, 1970) - 39 Fat Joe (August 19, 1970) - 38 Scarface (November 9, 1970) - 38 DMX (December 18, 1970) - 38 Method Man (April 1, 1971) - 38 Snoop Dogg (October 20, 1971) – 37 Common (March 13, 1972) - 37 Busta Rhymes (May 20, 1972) - 37 Black Thought (October 3, 1972) - 36 Eminem (October 17, 1972) - 36 Bun B (March 19, 1973) - 36 Nas (September 14, 1973) - 35 Mos Def (December 11, 1973) - 35 Andre 3000 (May 27, 1974) - 35 Styles P (November 28, 1974) - 34 Big Boi (February 1, 1975) - 34 Jadakiss (May 27, 1975) - 34 50 Cent (July 6, 1975) - 33 Talib Kweli (October 3, 1975) - 33 Rick Ross (January 28, 1976) - 33 Cam’ron (February 4, 1976) - 33 Kanye West (June 8, 1977) - 31 Ludacris (September 11, 1977) - 31 Young Jeezy (October 12, 1977)- 31 Fabolous (November 18, 1977) - 31 Source:NappyAfro.com
