LAS VEGAS — Wiz Khalifa has always been ahead of his time. Before the Pixburgh star spitter even dropped his major-label LP, he was touring the country, selling out shows all by his lonesome. Now that he is just weeks away from the release of his sophomore O.N.I.F.C., the Captain brought his entire Taylor Gang crew to Vegas on the latest stop on his 2050 Tour on Thursday night.
Juicy J, Chevy Woods and Lola Monroe weren't the only guests that Khalifa invited onstage at the Thomas and Mack Center. After choice cuts from his Cabin Fever and Taylor Allderdice mixtapes, Wiz made way for 50 Cent, who surprised the Sin City crowd rapping along to his 2007 hit "I Get Money."
After Fif, Wiz called out for Chevy Woods and together they rocked their riot-starting fan anthem "Taylor Gang." Fans bounced up and down, throwing their hand in time with the frantic beat. Wiz moved seamlessly through his catalog performing new tunes like O.N.I.F.C's "It's Nothin'" as well as the unreleased, Pharrell-produced "Rise Above." The set reached a literal high when Khalifa dipped into his 2010 Kush and Orange Juice classics "The Kid Frankie" and "Never Been."
Marijuana-filled joints lit the sky when Wiz slowed things down to sing his stoner ode "Mary 3x." By the time he hit "Young, Wild and Free," two mascots, one oversized joint and one lighter, hit the stage and danced around the freakishly large bong which stood as the stage's center piece.
To close, Wiz brought out the heavy hitters. Of course there was his breakout single "Black and Yellow" before bring it home with his latest hit "Work Hard, Play Hard."
Wiz has already solidified his future as a soloist, but now with his Taylor Gang officially in tow, the Captain proved on this night that his reign will last a long time. Maybe even until 2050.
