HOUSTON (KSAT) – A Houston woman has been awarded $1.2 billion after her ex-boyfriend distributed intimate images and videos of her online without her permission — a crime known as “revenge porn.”
The victim was awarded $200 million for past and future mental anguish (compensatory damages) & $1 billion in exemplary damages.
The victim’s ex-boyfriend, Marques Jamal Jackson, has been ordered to pay the damages.
“We are grateful the jury took a strong stand against the defendant’s abhorrent behavior & against imaged-based sexual abuse. While a judgment in this case is unlikely to be recovered, the compensatory verdict gives [the victim] back her good name,” said trial lawyer Bradford Gilde.
Court documents reveal that the former couple initially ended their relationship in 2020 but tried to reconcile several times & didn’t fully separate until the fall of 2021.
During that time, the victim moved back in with her mother & Jackson would log on to the victim’s mother’s home security system to spy on the victim.
Jackson hacked the victim’s work computer, emailed loan officers claiming the victim was submitting fraudulent applications & shared intimate material of the victim on multiple social media websites.
Gilde said Jackson intended to inflict a combination of psychological abuse, domestic violence & sexual abuse.
Trial evidence revealed that Jackson told the victim, “You will spend the rest of your life trying and failing to wipe yourself off the internet. Everyone you ever meet will hear the story & go looking. Happy Hunting.”
“We will forever admire [the victim’s] courage in fighting back. We hope the staggering amount of this verdict sends a message of deterrence and prevents others from this engaging in this despicable activity,” said Gilde.

(Reuters) - Donald Trump faced a new raft of felony charges on Tuesday after a Georgia grand jury used a law developed to take down organized crime gangs to charge the former U.S. president with trying to overturn his 2020 election defeat.
The charges, brought on Monday by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis charge Trump & 18 associates for a scheme intended to reverse his loss to Democrat Joe Biden.
The indictment listed 19 defendants & 41 criminal counts in all. All the defendants were charged with racketeering, which is used to target members of organized crime groups & carries a minimum penalty of 5 years in prison.
Mark Meadows, Trump's former White House chief of staff & lawyers Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis & John Eastman were among those charged.
Trump & the other defendants have until noon Friday, Aug. 25, to surrender voluntarily, rather than face arrest. Willis said she intends to try all 19 defendants together within 6 months.
Trump called the indictment a "witch hunt" & accused Willis of trying to sabotage his presidential comeback bid.
He said he would release a report on Monday on "Presidential Election Fraud" that would exonerate him.
Since his defeat in 2020, Trump has repeatedly made false claims that the election was marred by widespread fraud. Those claims have been rejected by dozens of courts, state reviews & members of his own administration.
In a Jan. 2, 2021, phone call, Trump urged Georgia's top election official, Brad Raffensperger, to "find" enough votes to reverse his narrow loss in the state. Raffensperger declined.
Trump's supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol 4 days later in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent lawmakers from certifying Biden's victory.

Former NFL star Michael Oher, subject of the book and movie "The Blind Side," alleges that the couple who took him in as a teenager misled him into believing they were adopting him & instead placed him in a conservatorship.
"The lie of Michael's adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy & Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher," the petition to terminate the conservatorship said.
The story of Oher & the Tuohy family became the subject of an Oscar-winning film, “The Blind Side,” starring actor Sandra Bullock in the role of Leigh Anne Tuohy. The film, based on the Michael Lewis book of the same name, chronicled Oher’s life as a homeless child through his college football career & eventual NFL stardom.
The Tuohys negotiated a deal with 20th Century Fox that left Oher without any payment for the rights to his name, likeness & life story while the Tuohy family received a contract price of $225,000 in addition to 2.5% of the film’s net proceeds.
The film has grossed over $300 million. A $200,000 donation was also made to Leigh Anne Tuohy's charitable foundation.
Oher made no money off the film, which was released after he completed his college career & would not have impacted his NCAA eligibility.
Oher does not recall signing the agreement for the rights to his life story. The document has a signature that appears to be his, but "nobody ever presented this document to him with any explanation."
His petition accuses the Tuohys of a breach of their fiduciary duty as conservators “so gross & appalling that they should by sanctioned by this court."
Oher was a ward of the state of Tennessee by the age of 11 & was homeless as a child. A friend's father helped Oher enroll in Briarcrest Christian School in 2002, where Oher played both basketball & football.
HOUSTON (Fox26Houston) - On Friday, a Houston woman was sentenced to 30 years in prison for getting a man attacked by gang members & then shot dead.
Karla Jackelin Morales, 24, pleaded guilty to luring Jose Alfonso Villanueva, 24, to a remote area to be attacked with a machete & then shot on July 29, 2018.
Morales brought Villanueva to a field claiming they would smoke marijuana to celebrate his birthday.
Instead, there were 5 members of the gang MS-13 there to kill him. Villanueva allegedly disrespected the men in a rap battle, so they were upset with him.
The group slashed Villanueva with a machete & then shot him when he tried to run away. His body was found about a week later.
"This women knowingly lured an innocent man to be murdered by 5 MS-13 gang members in the most brutal & depraved manner that you could imagine sending shockwaves and fear throughout the Houston community," said Acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Kurtz, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Houston. "By working in conjunction with our local law enforcement partners and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, we were able to hold all of the individuals responsible for this horrifying tragedy accountable and hopefully bring some closure to the victim’s family."
The gang members were also convicted in Villanueva’s murder.
Morales was supposed to go to trial in October 2021 but jumped bond & cut off her ankle monitor. She was later arrested in Houston 9 months later.
