SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Bob Lee, a technology executive who created Cash App and was currently chief product officer of MobileCoin, was fatally stabbed in San Francisco early Tuesday.
Officers responded to a report of a stabbing on Main Street at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday & found a 43-year-old man suffering from apparent stab wounds. The victim died at a hospital.
Police did not identify the victim but MobileCoin confirmed Lee’s death.
“Our dear friend & colleague, Bob Lee passed away yesterday at the age of 43, survived by a loving family and collection of close friends and collaborators,” MobileCoin CEO Josh Goldbard said in a statement.
“From large contributions to Android at google, to being the first CTO of Square, in that time creating CashApp & working with us here at Mobilecoin, Bob surely had an impact that will last far beyond his short time on earth,” he said.
Lee came to MobileCoin as an early stage investor and advisor, then became chief product officer and helped launch the Moby app, Goldbard said. Lee was the chief technology officer at digital payments company Square in 2013 when it launched a money transfer application now known as Cash App.
The police statement did not provide any details on the circumstances of the stabbing.
“This is an open and active investigation. For that reason we are not releasing further information,” Officer Niccole Pacchetti, a public information officer, said in an email. “We will provide further details when they become available.”

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – “I thought he was going to [expletive] rape me.”
Those were the words that James City County police officer Michael Rusk screamed at a 911 operator shortly after allegedly shooting & seriously hurting Sgt. Christopher Gibson outside a Williamsburg bar in January.
Rusk calls 911 immediately & states his name & badge number to the dispatcher before saying, “I shot Sergeant Gibson!” He goes on to say, “I pulled a gun on him because he was [expletive] advancing on me.”
Rusk’s dad says his son had been subject to unwanted sexual advances from Gibson for about a year prior to the shooting.
“There was extremely inappropriate touching. The stalking, the grooming,” said Jason Rusk. “But it started to get creepy. [Gibson] would just show up out of nowhere, on streets where Michael’s girlfriends lived,
Rusk claims his son reported the behavior to others at the police department, but was written off.
On the 911 call, Rusk tells the dispatcher that he tried to deny Gibson’s advances.
“I told him ‘no’ & he just kept going. I told him to stop. He kept going. I thought he was gonna rape me,” he said.
The 2 are seen hours before the shooting on surveillance video. At first, they are sitting across from one another at a table. Then, Gibson moves around to the other side, so he is sitting next to Rusk. That’s when Gibson reaches for Rusk’s hand under the table. The advance is met with hesitation from the younger officer.
The video shows them leave the bar just about an hour before the shooting. After Gibson puts his hand on Rusk’s shoulder, you see Rusk forcefully push him off & put a finger in his face before walking away.
“If I had a daughter in the same position as my son, we wouldn’t even be here. They would have listened, we wouldn’t have an innocent person fighting for their freedom,” Rusk said.
Rusk was placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty Tuesday to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records arising from a hush money payment to a porn actor during his 2016 campaign.
The plea came during a history-making arraignment in a lower Manhattan courtroom, with Trump becoming the first former president in U.S. history to face criminal prosecution.
The arraignment, though procedural in nature, amounts to a remarkable reckoning for Trump after years of investigations into his personal, business & political dealings. The case is unfolding against the backdrop not only of his third campaign for the White House but also against other investigations in Washington & Atlanta that might yet produce even more charges.
A silent & stone-faced Trump, his lips pursed in apparent anger, entered the courtroom shortly before 2:30 p.m. He left court about an hour later, also without commenting.
Before the arraignment, he narrated his feelings in real time, describing the experience as “SURREAL” as he traveled from Trump Tower to lower Manhattan to face a judge.
It represents the new split-screen reality for Trump as he submits to the dour demands of the American criminal justice system while projecting an aura of defiance & victimhood at celebratory campaign events.
“Heading to Lower Manhattan, the Courthouse,” the voluble ex-president posted on his Truth Social platform. “Seems so SURREAL — WOW, they are going to ARREST ME. Can’t believe this is happening in America. MAGA!”
Trump, who was impeached twice by the U.S. House but was never convicted in the U.S. Senate, is the first former president to face criminal charges.

An Idaho man was arrested after allegedly murdering the man who was the main suspect in his mom's murder.
Raul Alexander Cuevas, 31, was taken into custody last Wednesday, a day after his 52-year-old mother, Michelle E. Luna, was found mortally wounded with multiple stab wounds in Nampa.
Authorities later identified Jesus R. Urrutia, 39, as a suspect in Luna’s killing & he was charged with first-degree murder.
The Ada County Sheriff’s Office later reported that at approximately 7:03 a.m. the next day, there was a call of another stabbing victim, believed to be Urrutia, found at a gas station.
When Nampa police responded to the call they reportedly found Urrutia “slumped over in the car, which was running but in park.”
Police found Cuevas 20 miles away from the gas station & he was subsequently arrested for allegedly murdering Urrutia in what police believe was an act of revenge for Luna’s killing.
The Ada County Coroner’s Office ruled that Urrutia’s death was a homicide after he suffered from a “sharp force injury wound to the chest."
Cuevas was charged with first-degree murder, though authorities have not officially determined a motive behind Urrutia’s death & said they are “still figuring out why Cuevas fatally stabbed Urrutia.”

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A first-grade Virginia teacher who was shot & seriously wounded by her 6-year-old student filed a lawsuit Monday seeking $40 million in damages from school officials, accusing them of gross negligence for allegedly ignoring multiple warnings on the day of the shooting that the boy had a gun & was in a “violent mood.”
Abby Zwerner, a 25-year-old teacher at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia was shot in the hand & chest on Jan. 6 as she sat at a reading table in her classroom. She spent nearly 2 weeks in the hospital & has had 4 surgeries since the shooting.
No one, including the boy, has been charged in the shooting.
In the lawsuit, Zwerner’s attorneys say all of the defendants knew the boy “had a history of random violence” at school & at home, including an episode the year before, when he “strangled & choked” his kindergarten teacher.
“All Defendants knew that John Doe attacked students & teachers alike & his motivation to injure was directed toward anyone in his path, both in & out of school & was not limited to teachers while at the school,” the lawsuit states.
School officials removed the boy from Richneck & sent him to another school for the remainder of the year, but allowed him to return for first grade in the fall of 2022, the lawsuit states. He was placed on a modified schedule “because he was chasing students around the playground with a belt in an effort to whip them with it,” & was cursing staff & teachers, it says. Under the modified schedule, one of the boy’s parents was required to accompany him during the school day.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The mom of a rapper known as BTB Savage spoke to ABC13 about the death of her son, who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Houston on Thursday.
Bernita Ward said she tried to warn her son & believes violence & retaliation led to his murder. She said her son's online persona is not how she knew him.
"I never refer to him at BTB Savage, the Instagram mogul," Ward said. "I am not one of those parents to cover up your child's lifestyle."
To her, he was just Darrell Gentry, his legal name. Gentry served in the military for 4 years and was a father to a 4-year-old son, which she is most proud of.
In February, Ward says her son believed he was going to be featured in a song & she recalls him calling her excited because his rapping career was starting to kick off.
Instead, she says a group showed to his apartment in San Antonio & tried to rob him.
Earlier this week, the rapper did a now-viral interview with VLAD-TV, describing how he & his girlfriend fought off the would-be robber.
Gentry talked at length about how he instructed his girlfriend to shoot the alleged intruder. In the interview, he said he told the suspect, who was pleading for help, "I don't give a (expletive) about you. You're going to die."
When the interviewer asked if he was concerned about retaliation, he said, "they might do what they do, but I'm going to get active. That's all that it is."
On Thursday, the rapper posted on social media, standing in the middle of a bloody crime scene. Hours later, Houston police said he was murdered.
While her son defended himself & did not deserve to die, Ward said she warned him to stop posting on social media & doing interviews.
"I said take that off social media," Ward said. "Let this family mourn in peace. They were taunting my son, though, telling him they were going to kill the family, make his momma cry & kill his son. I told my son don't respond. Let it go. But, their family member came to rob my son."
Ward says she doesn't have any doubts that her son's death is tied to the deadly robbery.
"The moral of this story is 2 mothers lost 2 amazing sons & that their children would be raised without fathers," Ward said. "That's the sad thing."
"I want to encourage all the youth, stop the violence," Ward said. "Stop the violence. Do something different with your life. I am fully aware of who my son is. The violence that takes place in these streets with these youth is so unnecessary. Kill your debt, kill the negativity. Don't kill each other."
