EL MIRAGE, Calif. (FoxLA) - 5 people have been arrested in connection with the mysterious deaths of 6 people whose bodies were found in a remote part of the Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County, deputies announced Monday. Deputies said the killings were related to a "dispute over marijuana."

Toniel Baez-Duarte, 34, Mateo Baez-Duarte, 24, Jose Nicolas Hernandez-Sarabia, 33, Jose Gregorio Hernandez-Sarabia, 34 & Jose Manuel Burgos Parra, 26 were arrested Sunday.

Their arrests come nearly a week after the bodies of the 6 unidentified victims were discovered in the small desert community of El Mirage.

San Bernardino Sheriff's Sergeant Michael Warrick said that deputies got a 911 call around 8:15 p.m. on Jan. 23, from a man saying he'd been shot, but didn't know where he was. Then, the call ended. Law enforcement tracked the phone, which eventually helped them find the scene.

All six had suffered gunshot wounds, Warrick said, 4 of the victims had also been severely burned. 

4 of the 6 victims have been identified. Baldemar Mondragon-Albarran, 34, Franklin Noel Bonilla, 22 & Kevin Dariel Bonilla, 25, of Hesperia. Warrick said they believed Franklin Bonilla was the one who'd called 911.

Deputies said all 5 suspects were being held without bail while the District Attorney reviews the case for potential charges.

San Bernarino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus said that these murders were part of a trend in the area regarding illegal marijuana grows, saying that the area is "known for illicit marijuana."

While Dicus said that "for all intents & purposes, it looks like illicit marijuana was the guiding force behind these murders," Warrick said that at this point in the investigation, the department can't comment on any potential cartel connections.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — 3 American troops were killed & dozens were injured Sunday in a drone strike in Jordan near the Syrian border. President Joe Biden blamed Iran-backed militias for the first U.S. fatalities after months of strikes by the groups against U.S. forces across the Middle East amid the Israel-Hamas war.

With an increasing the risk of military escalation in the region, U.S. officials were working to conclusively identify the precise group responsible for the attack, but they have assessed that one of several Iranian-backed groups was behind it.

Biden said the U.S. “will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner (of) our choosing.” 

The number of troops injured in the attack by the one-way attack drone rose to at least 34. 

U.S. troops long have used Jordan, a kingdom bordering Iraq, Israel, the Palestinian territory of the West Bank, Saudi Arabia & Syria, as a basing point.

Since the war in Gaza began Oct. 7, Iranian-backed militias have struck American military installations in Iraq more than 60 times & in Syria more than 90 times, with a mix of drones, rockets, mortars & ballistic missiles. The attack Sunday was the first targeting American troops in Jordan during the Israel-Hamas war & the first to result in the loss of American lives. Scores of U.S. personnel have been wounded, including some with traumatic brain injuries, during the attacks.

The militias have said that their strikes are in retaliation for Washington’s support for Israeli in the war in Gaza & have also said they aim to push U.S. forces out of the region.

The U.S. in recent months has struck targets in Iraq, Syria & Yemen to respond to attacks on American forces in the region & to deter Iran-backed Houthi rebels from continuing to threaten commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

HOUSTON (KPRC) – A girl’s father shot her stepfather several times on Friday in west Houston after she accused him of sexually assaulting her, according to the Houston Police Department.

The incident happened in the 700 block of Bateswood Drive at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Police said, the girl wrote a note to her mom that said she had been sexually assaulted by her stepfather.

Her mother saw the note and picked up her daughter from her biological father’s house, and they returned to the mother’s home.

The girl’s father later arrived at the mother’s home. They tried to discuss the situation, and the stepfather denied the assault.

The daughter and the mother then stepped outside, and this is when the father shot the 30-year-old stepfather three times. He shot him in the stomach and leg.

The stepfather is having surgery and expected to survive.

The father is cooperating with officers and could face a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Those involved have not been identified.

This case is still under investigation.

The "alien creature" conspiracy theorists on Twitter are running wild after a video appears to show an out-of-this-world figure walking near cop cars during an emergency response ... and we now have some answers as to what really went down.

Here's the deal ... a growing conspiracy theory online suggests the massive police response on New Year's Day in Miami isn't what it seems. Folks are pointing to one specific piece of footage they say shows a strange figure moving near police cars.

The person who posted the video says he zoomed in on some TikTok videos and claims he found a "gray creature."

However, spokesperson for Miami PD tells TMZ … "What is seen on this clip is the shadow of someone walking. If you look at the bottom of the shadow, you can see the person. No creature."

So that's that ... and as for how the whole thing started, folks thought the sheer number of police cars at the scene seemed to be way more than necessary. Cops were called to the shopping mall over a group of teens fighting, launching fireworks and causing chaos at the mall ... but there's reports some thought the fireworks was gunfire, which likely triggered the massive police response.

The good news ... it was only humans fighting, and NOT aliens.
