CLEVELAND (AP) — An Ohio mother whose 16-month-old daughter died after being left home alone in a playpen for 10 days last summer while she went on vacation was sentenced Monday to life in prison with no chance of parole.

Kristel Candelario, 32, had pleaded guilty last month to aggravated murder and child endangerment as part of a plea deal with Cuyahoga County prosecutors, who dismissed two murder counts and a felonious assault charge.

Authorities have said Candelario left her daughter, Jailyn, in their Cleveland home when she went on vacation to Detroit and Puerto Rico in June 2023. When she returned 10 days later, she found the girl was not breathing in the playpen and called 911. Emergency responders found the child was “extremely dehydrated” and pronounced her dead shortly after they arrived.

An autopsy by the Cuyahoga County medical examiner’s office determined that the toddler died of starvation and severe dehydration.

County Common Pleas Court Judge Brendan Sheehan told Candelario she committed “the ultimate betrayal” by leaving her daughter alone without food.

“Just as you didn’t let Jailyn out of her confinement, so too you should spend the rest of your life in a cell without freedom,” Sheehan said. “The only difference will be, the prison will at least feed you and give you liquid that you denied her.”

Candelario, who has struggled with depression and related mental health issues, said she has prayed daily for forgiveness.

“There’s so much pain that I have in regards to the loss of my baby, Jailyn,” she said. “I’m extremely hurt about everything that happened. I am not trying to justify my actions, but nobody knew how much I was suffering and what I was going through ... God and my daughter have forgiven me.”

BOISE, Idaho (Fox10) - Skylar Meade, an Idaho prisoner & white supremacist who escaped custody at a Boise hospital after an accomplice shot & wounded corrections officers, is still at large, along with the man who helped him flee.

Nicholas Umphenour is the accomplice suspected of shooting 2 corrections officers in an ambush Wednesday in the ambulance bay at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Umphenour is now wanted on 2 charges of aggravated battery against law enforcement & 1 charge of aiding & abetting an escape.

Meade & Umphenour took off in a gray 2020 Honda Civic with license plate 2TDF43U.

Meade, 31, is a white supremacist & Aryan Knights gang member who was sentenced to 20 years in 2017 for shooting at a sheriff’s sergeant during a high-speed chase. Meade has prior convictions including felony possession of a controlled substance, grand theft, and introduction of contraband into a correctional facility.

He has been behind bars since October 2016 and was set to be released in October 2036.
Idaho corrections officers ambushed, shot at hospital.

Authorities said Meade was taken to the hospital at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday after he engaged in "self-injurious behavior" & medical staff determined he needed emergency care.

The attack against officers happened at 2:15 a.m. as Idaho Department of Correction officers prepared to bring Meade back to prison.

Actor Jonathan Majors' ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari sued him in federal court Tuesday, three months after a New York City jury convicted him of assaulting and harassing her.

Jabbari, a British dancer who is suing Majors, the former Marvel actor, alleging defamation, malicious prosecution, assault and battery in the Southern District of New York, alleges in the court papers that Majors physically abused her several other times during their nearly two-year relationship, the first time in July 2022.

And she alleges in the lawsuit that since Majors was convicted in December, he has continued to attack her reputation.

“When publicly confronted with Grace’s numerous allegations of abuse, Majors has called her a liar at every turn and very specifically claimed that he has never put his hands on a woman, with the goal of convincing the world that Grace is not a victim of domestic abuse but instead a crazy liar who should be treated as such,” the lawsuit says.

Majors’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry, said they were anticipating Jabbari’s lawsuit.

“This is no surprise,” Chaudhry said in an email. “Mr. Majors is preparing counterclaims against Ms. Jabbari.”

In the court papers, Jabbari also alleges that Majors “has consistently engaged in an escalating pattern of abusive behavior towards women since as early as 2013.”

Jabbari, who met Majors in 2021 on the set of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” did not identify who else he may have abused. And Jabbari’s lawyer, Brittany Henderson, did not reply to a call seeking comment.

In February, two more of Majors’ ex-girlfriends, Emma Duncan and Maura Hooper, told The New York Times that he had physically and emotionally abused them, too. Those allegations span 2013 to 2019.

Majors, through his lawyer, denied that he had physically abused Duncan, and in response to emotional abuse allegations from Hooper, his lawyer told the Times, “Looking back, he is embarrassed by some of his jealous behavior.”

Marvel parted company with Majors, once a rising star in Hollywood, in December after he was convicted.

Majors, who played supervillain Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel movie franchise, had been set to revisit the role in 2026’s “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”

Donald Trump has lashed out at New York Attorney General Letitia James after the former president's lawyers said he is unable to secure a bond to appeal the $454 million penalty handed down to him & 2 of his children in the civil fraud case.

Trump hit out at James & Judge Arthur Engoron, who ordered that the former president pay a $355 million fine, which increased to $454 million with interest, after ruling that Trump had fraudulently inflated the value of his properties in financial statements, including his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida & his triplex apartment in Manhattan's Trump Tower.

Lawyers for Trump said that the Republican was unable to secure a $464 million cash bond—which includes the payment also required by his 2 sons Donald Jr. and Eric—in order to appeal the decision after being rejected by about 30 bond companies. If Trump does not pay the penalty or cash bond by March 25, the former president is at risk of having his assets seized.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A football coach has been arrested in Utah in connection with the poisoning death of his girlfriend and their unborn child in Nashville last year.

According to Metro police, 27-year-old Blaise Taylor was arrested by Deputy U.S. Marshals in Cache County, Utah, on Thursday, March 14 after a Nashville grand jury indictment charged him with two counts of first-degree murder.

Taylor’s girlfriend, Jade Benning, died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on March 6, 2023, her 25th birthday, according to investigators. She was rushed to the hospital via ambulance on the night of Feb. 25, 2023, after Taylor reportedly called 911 and said Benning appeared to be having an allergic reaction.

Benning’s medical condition immediately became critical and her 5-month-old fetus, who Taylor is believed to have fathered, died on Feb. 27, 2023. Detectives were unable to interview Benning before she died.

Investigators determined Taylor poisoned Benning without her knowledge while visiting her at her townhome in the 1500 block of Lebanon Pike on the night of Feb. 25, 2023.

Taylor reportedly moved to Utah after Benning and her unborn baby died. Police are currently working with authorities in Utah to arrange for Taylor’s return to Nashville.

The Tennessee Titans employed Taylor as a scout for four years, according to his LinkedIn. Taylor was formerly employed as a senior defensive analyst at Utah State University.

Taylor played at Arkansas State between 2014 and 2017.
