BEIRUT (Associated Press) — An Islamic State group video released Sunday purports to show extremists beheading a dozen Syrian soldiers and ends with a militant claiming to have killed U.S. aid worker Peter Kassig, the latest slaughter proudly broadcast by the group on the Internet.

The video ends with the militant standing over a severed head he says belongs to Kassig. U.S. officials said they were working to determine the video's authenticity. Kassig's family said it was awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
"We prefer our son is written about and remembered for his important work and the love he shared with friends and family, not in the manner the hostage takers would use to manipulate Americans and further their cause," the family said in a statement.
The Associated Press could not independently verify the footage, though it appeared on websites used in the past by the Islamic State group, which now controls a third of Syria and Iraq.
The video identifies the militants' location as Dabiq, a town in northern Syria that the Islamic State group uses as the title of its English-language propaganda magazine and where they believe an apocalyptic battle between Muslims and their enemies will take place.
The slickly produced video shows the beheadings of about a dozen men identified as Syrian military officers and pilots, all dressed in blue jumpsuits. The main militant in the video who speaks to the camera has a British accent and warns that U.S. soldiers will meet a similar fate.
"We say to you, Obama: ... You claim to have withdrawn from Iraq four years ago," the militant said. "Here you are: You have not withdrawn. Rather, you hid some of your forces behind your proxies." A U.S.-led coalition is targeting the Islamic State group in airstrikes, supporting Western-backed Syrian rebels, Kurdish fighters and the Iraqi military.
Audio in the video appears to have been distorted to make it more difficult to identify the militant. Previous videos featured a militant with a British accent that the FBI says it has identified, though it hasn't named him publicly.
Later, the militant claims Kassig was killed because he "fought against the Muslims in Iraq, while serving as a soldier." Kassig, from Indianapolis, Indiana, served in the U.S. Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, a special operations unit, and deployed to Iraq in 2007.
After being medically discharged, Kassig formed the aid organization Special Emergency Response and Assistance, or SERA, in Turkey to aid Syrian refugees. He began delivering food and medical supplies to Syrian refugee camps in 2012 and provided trauma care to wounded Syrian civilians. Friends say he converted to Islam in captivity and took the first name Abdul-Rahman.
Burhan Agha, a Syrian friend who worked with Kassig in Lebanon and who moved to Switzerland seeking asylum, wept when recounting his generosity Sunday.
"If I could apologize to each American, one by one, I would, because Peter died in Syria, while he was helping the Syrian people," Agha told the AP by telephone. "Those who killed him claimed to have done it in the name of Islam. I am a Muslim and am from Syria. ... (His killers) are not Muslims."
The White House said the U.S. intelligence community was working to determine the authenticity of the video. National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan said that if the video is authentic, the White House would be "appalled by the brutal murder of an innocent American."
Previous videos have shown the beheading of two American journalists and two British aid workers. The latest video did not show the person identified as Kassig being beheaded. Unlike previous videos, it did not show other Western captives or directly threaten to behead anyone else.
The Islamic State group also holds British photojournalist John Cantlie, who has appeared in several videos delivering statements for the group, likely under duress.

The Islamic State group has beheaded and shot dead hundreds of captives — mainly Syrian and Iraqi soldiers — during its sweep across the two countries, and has celebrated its mass killings in high-quality, extremely graphic videos.
The group has declared a self-styled Islamic caliphate in the areas under its control, which it governs according to its violent interpretation of Shariah law.
The U.S.-led coalition later began its campaign of airstrikes in Iraq and Syria in a bid to halt the group's rapid advance and eventually degrade and destroy it.
The Islamic State group has its roots in al-Qaida's Iraqi affiliate but was expelled from the global terror network over its brutal tactics and refusal to obey orders to confine its activities to Iraq. It became even more extreme amid the bloody civil war in neighboring Syria, growing stronger to the point of being able to launch a lightning offensive across Iraq.
The fight against the militant group adds another layer to Syria's complex civil war, now in its fourth year, which began as an uprising against President Bashar Assad. Activists say that conflict has killed more than 200,000 people.

The heat has been turned up on Bill Cosby in the wake of renewed allegations of past sexual assaults. Comedian Hannibal Buress reignited the firestorm during his stand-up routine at the Trocadero Theatre in Philadelphia on Thursday, October 23

I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom. Yeah, but you raped women, Bill Cosby," Buress said. "So, brings you down a couple notches. I don't curse on stage. Well, yeah, you're a rapist, so, I'll take you sayin' lots of mo*therf*ckers on Bill Cosby: Himself if you weren't a rapist. …I want to just at least make it weird for you to watch Cosby Show reruns. …I've done this bit on stage, and people don't believe. People think I'm making it up. …That sh*t is upsetting. If you didn't know about it, trust me. You leave here and google 'Bill Cosby rape.' It's not funny. That sh*t has more results than Hannibal Buress."

Bowman claims the assaults occurred when she was between the ages of 17-19. She told the Daily Mail they began in 1985. Cosby was supposed to be her mentor, but turned into her tormentor.

Cosby gave an interview to NPR's “Weekend Edition” on Saturday, November 15, and was asked about the allegations, but refused to answer the question.
“This question gives me no pleasure, Mr. Cosby, but there have been serious allegations raised about you in recent days. You’re shaking your head no. I’m in the news business, I have to ask the question. Do you have any response to those charges? Shaking your head no. There are people who love you who may want to hear from you about this. I want to give you the chance.” Cosby stays silent.
The interview follows a social media nightmare on Monday, November 10. The 77-year old actor and comedian asked his Twitter followers to make him an internet meme. Instead of light hearted quotes on Cosby photos, a large majority of those who responded used the opportunity to roast him about allegedly drugging and raping women.
Cosby settled a 2006 rape claim out of court.
In the last week both Queen Latifah and David Letterman have cancelled Cosby appearances on their shows.

Common, Malik Yusef, Kumasi, Aaron Fresh, Choklate & Laci Kay have teamed up for the collaborative song, "Trouble in the Water." The song appears on HOME, a music project that hopes to raise awareness about climate change and "expand the climate movement."
The EP version of HOME will be available as a free download on iTunes for a week -- Nov. 18 to Nov. 24 -- as a way of giving thanks to the climate movement. The project's website notes, "Climate change is the most significant global issue of our time. The Los Angeles Police Department has officially issued a warrant for Lil Twist's arrest in connection with the beating of Chris Massey.
As we previously reported, Chris kicked Twist of of his brother Kyle's L.A. apartment on November 7th, following a dispute.
Twist, real name Christopher Lynn Moore, later returned with four other men and allegedly pummeled the former Zoey 101 actor with brass knuckles, before stealing his wallet and cell phone stolen.
Massey was taken to the hospital for his injuries and later filed a police report.
On Friday, November 14, the LAPD issued an arrest warrant for Twist, charging him with felony home invasion and robbery, according to TMZ. They are still trying to identify the other four assailants.

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (Associated Press) — Islamic extremists in Nigeria have seized Chibok, forcing thousands of people to flee the town where insurgents kidnapped nearly 300 schoolgirls in April, a local official said Friday.
The Boko Haram insurgents entered the town Thursday, shooting from pickup trucks and motorcycles, Bana Lawan, chairman of the Chibok local government, told The Associated Press.
"Nobody can tell you what is happening there today because everybody is just trying to escape with their lives," he said.
In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the U.S. is closely monitoring the situation in Chibok.
" We condemn these attacks in Chibok, a community that has already suffered too much. ... We remain committed to helping the government of Nigeria address the threat posed by extremist organizations, Psaki told reporters.
In a separate development, a bomb exploded Friday night in northern Kano city, the second largest population center in Nigeria, killing six people including three police officers, according to the police.
Resident Aliyu Yusuf Hotoro said many buildings shook from the force of the explosion from a car bomb in a gas station on a main road leading to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state. Soldiers, police and emergency rescue operations workers cordoned off the area.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bomb, but Boko Haram extremists have detonated them in Kano in the past.
Meanwhile, attempts to call the cellphones of some of the kidnapped girls' parents living in Chibok failed. Boko Haram extremists often destroy cellphone towers, and the military often cuts communications to areas under attack.
Dozens of the kidnapped girls escaped in the first couple of days after their capture from a boarding school just outside the town, but 219 are still missing.
Community leader Hussain Monguno said none of the escapees was in Chibok at the time of the attack. They have all been given scholarships to other schools in northern Nigeria.
Nigeria's military chief announced on Oct. 17 that the country's homegrown Boko Haram extremist group had agreed to an immediate cease-fire. Government officials said the truce would lead to the girls' speedy release.
But Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau in a video released last month said the girls were "an old story," that they all had converted to Islam and been married off to his fighters.
Chibok is an enclave of mainly Christian families, some involved in translating the Bible into local languages, in the mainly Muslim north of Nigeria.
At least seven of the girls' parents have died since their abductions, from causes such as heart attacks that residents blame on the trauma, according to Monguno, head of the Borno-Yobe People's Forum.
Since the apparent cease-fire announcement, the insurgents have taken control of several more towns and villages where they have declared an Islamic caliphate along the lines of the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.
In an area covering about 20,000 square kilometers (7,700 square miles), residents caught behind the militants' lines say they have set up courts upholding a strict version of Shariah law, publicly amputating the hands of alleged looters and whipping people for infractions such as smoking cigarettes.

BET's 106 & Park has had a great run and will still live digitally on BET.com, however the network has made the decision to remove it from it's television lineup after a 14-year run.
The final show will air December 19, 2014. Several shows will still be seen on the network throughout the year, including 106 & Party, the New Year's Eve special, along with live event experiences at the BET Awards and BET Experience.
