A 29-year-old Fort Lauderdale man is in jail on accusations that he stabbed the mother of his child in the eyes leaving her blind, threw their 1-year-old child through a window and attacked his own mom.
According to his arrest report, Pierre Gabriel Francois’ mother told Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies that her son, who suffers from schizophrenia, had an episode and started beating her. She said she then saw Francois throw his daughter from a first-floor window. Evidence markers lined the broken windows with blood underneath them after the incident.
Deputies said the woman ran to a neighbor’s home for help and that neighbor immediately called police.
When deputies arrived at the family’s home on Northwest 27th Lane, they made two gruesome discoveries. First, authorities saw the toddler lying face-down in the front yard. Inside, they found the mother of Francois’ child with stab wounds to her face and eyes.
Both the baby's mother and the child are hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, and Francois is charged with two counts of attempted felony murder and one charge of aggravated assault.
The mother is not expected to be able to see again, Broward Assistant State Attorney Eric Linder said in first appearance court Monday. She also has a lacerated trachea and liver.
The baby suffered traumatic brain injuries and is non-responsive, prosecutors said.
Francois’ bail was set at $550,000 by Broward Circuit Judge Daniel Kanner.
A mental health evaluation will be ordered for Francois.
