Videos After The Jump
We’re about to wave goodbye to 2010, and that means all the year end “best of” lists are rolling out.
This particular list for “Top 10 Viral Videos Of The Year” is one of the coolest because literally anyone can become a youtube sensation overnight. Antoine Dodson is the biggest example of that on this year’s list.
Compiled by AOL’s Boombox staff, check out these viral clips and see if you agree on both the list and the order in which the videos are ranked
10. Rapping Weatherman
Texas meteorologist Nick Kosir took a page out of the hip-hop handbook when he turned a humdrum forecast into a head-bopping stage show earlier this year. While donning a pair of Rick Ross-esque shades, the Fox Channel 4 employee spit choice lines like, "And my weather rhymes are so hot this morning / By tonight they'll blame me for global warming."
9. 'Life in Quarantine,' The Fully Sick Rapper
After contracting tuberculosis during a trip to South Africa, Aussie Christiaan Van Vuuren flipped open his laptop and busted a rhyme while in quarantine to pass the time. Little did he know that his boredom-killing music video would snake across YouTube, turning his serious bout with illness into entertainment for all. The best part? You can enjoy his hospital stay from a safe distance.
Cam'ron and Vado's summer smash, 'Speaking in Tungs,' received a pop injection when Canadian cutie Justin Bieber showcased an original freestyle over the frenzied beat via video. The Biebs called on his rap alias Shawty Mane to deliver dippy lyrics like "Alright, stop, drop and roll, Justin Bieber is on fire / It's time to realize, time to call me young sire."
This little guy has been racking up views on YouTube with his swaggadocious clips where he lip-syncs to hits like 'Thriller' and 'Teenage Dream.' But the crown jewel in his collection came with a cover of Jeremih and 50 Cent's 'Down on Me' where, after singing the R&B crooner's verse, Keenan was joined by Fiddy himself. Quite possibly 50's best video walk-on in years.
The dance craze of the year can be credited to Cali Swag District, whose 'Teach Me How to Dougie' inspired legions of YouTube fans to record and post their own versions on the net. The simple tune was complemented by a music video that instructed viewers how to wiggle their legs and throw them 'bows, prompting everyone from Chris Brown and the cast of 'Glee' to try it out
Animators had a field day poking fun at the simple lyrical style of Southern rappers on 'Shawt Bus Shawty,' a faux music video putting rappers on the short bus to school. In the hilarious clip, OJ Da Juiceman, Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame take turns spitting incomprehensible rhymes as interpreted by lyrics scrolling across the screen. Just like OJ spits in the clip, "As a cartoon man, still lookin' funny!"
3. 'Pants on the Ground'
'American Idol' has never been the forum for spawning platinum-selling rap acts, but it has unearthed some odd lyricists, namely General Larry Platt. During the show's ninth season in January, the Atlanta native performed his ode to saggy pants for judges, including Mary J. Blige. While the 64-year-old didn't make it to the next round, he left a rapping impression.
2. Baracka Flacka Flames in 'Head of the State'
The only thing funnier than a parody of Waka Flock Flame? The inevitable Baracka Flocka Flame music video. In 'Head of the State,' a profanity-spewing Prez impersonator dumbs out in the hood, putting a hilariously political spin on Waka's Southern hit 'Hard In The Paint.' If you stick around long enough in the spoof, you'll also catch Oprah Flocka Flame breaking it down ghetto fab style.
1. Antoine Dodson Warns a Perp on Live TV
The undisputed king of viral videos this year was none other than Antoine Dodson. Catapulted to fame after giving a spicy interview to WAFF-TV News in Huntsville, Ala., the long-haired, bandana-wearing man caught some feelings following a break-in and attempted rape in his apartment. Within days, the video went viral, making "Hide yo' kids, hide yo' wife" the hottest catchphrase since "Yes, we can!"
What do you guys think? Is this a pretty accurate list for best viral videos of the year?
