Race, religion and politics are three subjects that should be taboo when it comes to conversations on social media, because an argument or misunderstanding is usually the end result.
Take Bow Wow a.k.a. Shad Moss, for instance. On Wednesday, July 27, he was asked by a Twitter user who he would be voting for in the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. Somehow, his ethnicity was brought into it and his answers have brought the full wrath of of the internet down on him.
“I don’t really care because after I learned what I learned about politics. I just stay away. Let down," he replied.
Another user told him that it was important to cast a ballot because the right to vote is something his ancestors fought and died for.
“Man, I only believe what the eyes see. I’m mixed. I don’t know what my ancestors was doing. I only know what I see," Moss said.
"Did your eyes see (the civil rights movie) Selma?" the user asked.
"I seen Selma. Was I related to anyone, no. I’m saying my moss side of family is not Black. Heritage different," the rapper responded.
Moss later posted a photo of his light-skinned father on Instagram to prove he was mixed.
That did little or nothing to stem the tidal wave of hate that started being aimed at Moss.
"Police: 'Get on the ground sir.' Bow wow: 'Officer we have a misunderstanding, I'm mixed!, one user joked on the social networking site.
Another questioned why he chose to make money from black culture: "Since bow wow isnt black and he's 'mixed' white X Native American...Why was he's entire career revolved around African American culture?"
"Why do y'all insist on asking Lil Bow Wow for his opinion like his views aren't Raven Symoné adjacent,' quipped Huffington Post Black Voices Associate Editor, Taryn Finley.
Journalist Roland Martin scolded Moss: "Hey Bow Wow @smoss. You being mixed don't have a damn thing to do with not understanding civil rights. You not giving a damn is the answer."
