Miley Cyrus kept her name buzzing Sunday, August 24, at the 2014 Video Music Awards. The singer made a powerful statement by allowing her friend, a man named Jesse, give her acceptance speech after her song "Wrecking Ball" won the award for Video of the Year.
“I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States, who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now. I know this because I am one of these people,” Jesse said. "I've survived in shelters all over [Los Angeles]. I've cleaned your hotel rooms. I've been an extra in your movies. I've been an extra in your life. Though I may have been invisible to you on the streets, I have a lot of the same dreams that brought many of you hear tonight."
Miley became emotional during Jesse's speech and shed many tears.
Prior to the show Miley spoke with Sway Calloway and Lucy Hale on the red carpet about Nicki Minaj breaking the VEVO record she previously held for the most video views in 24 hours. Miley's "Wrecking Ball" held the top spot with 12.3 million views until last week when Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda" shattered the record with 19 million views.
“With that ass … I ain’t got that ass,” told Sway “I can bring that body, I can bring that wrecking ball, but I can’t bring that ass. Not that Anaconda.”
The singer also announced her official retirement from twerking.
