WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Friday threatened to close America’s southern border or large sections of it next week, a potentially drastic step affecting the economies of both the U.S. and Mexico, if Mexico does not halt illegal immigration “immediately.”

“It could mean all trade” with Mexico,” Trump said when questioned by reporters in Florida. “We will close it for a long time. I am not kidding around.”

Trump has previously threatened to close the border — including at a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Thursday night — but this time was different as he gave a timetable. The White House did not immediately respond to questions about whether his possible action would apply to commercial and air travel, but a substantial closure could have an especially heavy impact on cross-border communities from San Diego to South Texas, as well as supermarkets, factories, and other businesses across the country that rely on trade from Mexico.

“If Mexico doesn’t immediately stop ALL illegal immigration coming into the United States through our Southern Border, I will be CLOSING the Border, or large sections of the Border, next week,” Trump said in a tweet. “This would be so easy for Mexico to do, but they just take our money and ‘talk.’”

Trump’s declaration came a day after Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said his country was doing its part to fight migrant smuggling. Criminal networks charge thousands of dollars a person to move migrants through Mexico, increasingly toward remote sections of the U.S.-Mexico border in large groups.

“We are going to do everything we can to help,” Lopez Obrador said. “We don’t in any way want a confrontation with the U.S. government.”

A senior Homeland Security official on Friday suggested Trump was referring to the ongoing surge of mostly Central American families crossing the border from Mexico. Many people who cross the border illegally ultimately request asylum under U.S. law, which does not require asylum seekers to enter at an official crossing.

The official said the U.S. might close designated ports of entry to re-deploy staff to help process parents and children.

Ports of entry are official crossing points that are used by residents and commercial vehicles. The official, who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity, did not specify which ports the administration was considering closing, but said only that closures were “on the table.”

Customs and Border Protection commissioner Kevin McAleenan said Wednesday that 750 border inspectors would be reassigned to deal with the growing number of migrant families, and the DHS official said Friday that the department was seeking volunteers from other agencies to help.

Democratic and Republican lawmakers have fought over whether there actually is a “crisis” at the border, particularly amid Trump’s push for a border wall, which he claims will solve immigration problems, though a wall wouldn’t keep out families who cross the border at official points so they can surrender and be detained.

The president called on Congress to immediately change what he said were weak U.S. immigration laws, which he blamed on Democrats. The Department of Homeland Security wants the authority to detain families for longer and more quickly deport children from Central America who arrive at the border on their own. The department argues those policy changes would stop families from trying to enter the U.S.

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The East Cleveland woman accused of leading several law enforcement agencies on a dangerous high-speed chase March 22 is no stranger to traffic stops.

Cleveland 19′s Investigative Unit learned Imani Edwards, 23, has been found guilty of at least four traffic violations since 2017.

According to court records in Orangeburg County in South Carolina, Edwards was cited for:

  • Sept. 1, 2018 - Driving under suspension
  • July 3, 2018 - Failure to obey traffic-control devices
  • Nov. 11, 2017 - Driving vehicle at greater speed than is reasonable under conditions
  • Sept. 27, 2017 - Speeding, more than 15 but less than 23 mph over the speed limit (charge amended to speeding, 10 mph or less over the speed limit)

Edwards, who used to live in Akron, was also cited by the Ohio State Highway Patrol in 2014 for failure to control.

She pleaded guilty and received a $169 fine and two points on her license.

Edwards is currently charged with felonious assault and fleeing in connection with Friday’s multi-jurisdictional pursuit.

According to investigators, a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol attempted to stop Edwards on I-77 northbound in Broadview Heights for illegal window tinting.

Edwards failed to comply and led troopers and police with Newburgh Heights and Cuyahoga Heights on chase that eventually ended on East 105th Street near St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland.

Dash camera footage shows Edwards smashing into several law enforcement vehicles on I-77 near the Pershing Avenue exit.

Newburgh Heights Police Chief John Majoy praised the work of the officers, who never fired their weapons.

“Their lives were at stake," said Majoy. “She almost ran them over. That’s a 2,000 pound weapon coming at you, they jumped out of the way just in the nick of time to save their own lives.”

When the pursuit finally ended and Edwards was taken into custody, an officer can be heard on a body camera asking her, “What are you doing?”

“I was on my way to work,” Edwards responded.

“Do you have any idea what you just did?” the officer asked.

“Yes sir,” said Edwards.

“Obviously you don’t,” the officer replied.

In addition to the felony criminal charges, Edwards was also cited for tinted windows, no seat belt, and driving under suspension.

The case has been bound over to the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas.

Edwards remains in jail on $100,000 bond.

Report via Page Six -- Tekashi 6ix9ine’s former manager, a high-ranking member of the violent “Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods” crew, has pleaded guilty to two firearms charges related to an armed robbery in Manhattan and a non-lethal shooting in Brooklyn.

Kifano “Shotti” Jordan, 36, faces a minimum prison sentence of 15 years for the two counts.

Tekashi, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, pleaded guilty in February to nine federal charges that included hiring a hitman to kill rival rapper Chief Keef this past June and distributing a kilo of heroin.

In November, the rainbow-haired, 22-year-old Hernandez, who is reportedly cooperating with authorities, was moved from a Brooklyn jail to a secret location after gang members threatened his life.

Both Hernandez and Jordan were indicted for carrying out an armed robbery on April 3 in Greenwich Village and Jordan pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm during a shooting at the Barclays Center.

Hernandez is scheduled to be sentenced next year.

(WCNC) -- WALTERBORO, S.C. — A South Carolina fifth-grader who was injured during a classroom fight this week has passed away.

The Colleton County Sheriff's Office and the school district confirmed Raniya Wright, 10, died Wednesday morning at 9:39 a.m. at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

"Our community has suffered a tremendous loss," the Colleton County School District said in a statement. "Raniya was a wonderful student. She loved to write, spend time with her friends, play basketball and loved being a big sister."

The fight broke out Monday in a classroom at Forest Hills Elementary School. The Colleton County School District says teachers ended the fight as quickly as possible, and called for EMS. An incident report states both of the students involved were fifth-graders, and the offense was listed as a simple assault.

According to the reports, officers responded to the scene initially for a call that a student had collapsed. The report goes on to say Wright was in the nurse's station and was unconscious but breathing when they arrived.

The fifth-grader was initially transported to a local hospital for her injuries, but was airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina hours later.

One student has since been suspended as an investigation into the incident continues, according to the district.

Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey said there's been no determination yet. on the cause of Wright's death yet until an autopsy takes places. That's scheduled for Friday at MUSC in Charleston.

Colleton deputies said they aren't able to give any more information on their investigation at this time, and will wait for the results of the autopsy.

South Carolina State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman said in statement, "my heart aches for the student's parents, peers, and the entire Walterboro community as they grieve the loss of a child who has left us far before their time."

She said she is in communication with the district and has offered any state assistance that she can provide.

Here is the full statement from the school district on Raniya's death:

"Our community has suffered a tremendous loss. We are deeply saddened that Raniya Wright, a fifth-grade Forest Hills Elementary School student, has passed away. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with this family in the difficult days ahead. The District has been communicating with the family to provide support and assistance, and we will continue to do so going forward."

"Raniya was a wonderful student. She loved to write, spend time with her friends, play basketball and loved being a big sister. She was actively involved in her church as a junior usher. She will be missed greatly by her family, friends, and the entire school community."

"Our entire school district is saddened by this event. It is very difficult to experience the death of a young person. We are providing guidance and counseling services to students, staff, and family members as needed. The well-being of our students and staff will remain a top priority as we deal with the emotions surrounding this tragedy. Children may be coming home with questions and worries about this loss. Please feel free to contact the school counselors if you have an issue you would like to discuss."

"The District is cooperating fully with law enforcement as this matter is investigated. No further information is available now regarding the status of the investigation, but additional information will be provided as it becomes available."

"Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as we all work through the pain and emotions of this devastating loss."

The school district has suspended its Facebook page, it says, so it can focus on the tragedy.

Report via TMZ -- DMX mistakenly rolling away with someone else's ride could cost him dearly if the feds find out he hopped in the driver's seat ... something X insists he did NOT do.

Sources close to DMX tell TMZ ... his lawyers think he's gonna get pulled in before a judge soon to explain what the hell happened last weekend in L.A. ... when his crew drove off with someone else's Corvette in a big ol' mixup. We're told the concern is he might have violated the probation in his tax evasion case.

As we reported ... X and his posse left a restaurant early Saturday morning, and the valet gave them someone else's car by mistake. They rode away, and the owner of the car reported it stolen. Cops got the car back pronto without arresting anyone.

Despite it being a clear gaffe on the valet's part, we're told X's camp thinks prosecutors are gonna squeeze him because there's confusion as to whether or not he was driving. DMX doesn't have a license right now, so driving would be a clear probation violation.

Our law enforcement sources tell us feds are just "looking into it" -- and it seems they're only basing their suspicions off our post. There are no images of DMX behind the wheel, as far as we've seen.

For the record, our DMX sources tell us he's confident surveillance footage will show he was a passenger and not the driver.

Report via The Independent -- Facebook has announced a ban white nationalism and white separatism from its platforms, in a major policy shift for the internet giant.

Any praise, support and representation of the far-right principles on Facebook and Instagram will be banned from next week.

“It’s clear that these concepts are deeply linked to organised hate groups and have no place on our services," Facebook said in a blog post announcing the policy change.

A ban on white supremacists was already in force, though nationalism and separatism had been allowed as they can be linked to patriotism and other concepts that can be important to people's identity.

Facebook said the policy change came after conversations with academics and other experts in race relations, who confirmed that white nationalism and white separatism cannot be meaningfully separated from white supremacy and organized hate groups.

Our own review of hate figures and organizations – as defined by our Dangerous Individuals and Organizations policy – further revealed the overlap between white nationalism and separatism and white supremacy," Facebook wrote.

"Going forward, while people will still be able to demonstrate pride in their ethnic heritage, we will not tolerate praise or support for white nationalism and separatism."

Video After The Jump

(Fox News) Devastated Wendy Williams is “not in a good way” after being rushed to the hospital — hours after her husband’s alleged mistress gave birth.

The talk show host was found drunk on Monday, soon after Page Six reported that Sharina Hudson, the alleged longtime love of her husband Kevin Hunter, had given birth.

She was taken to the hospital where she was given IV fluids — however, she still showed to the set of her show and filmed on Tuesday.

The star had left the sober home in Queens where she has been staying, sparking a hunt for her before she was found.

But she’s now back at the facility, we’re told.

It’s widely believed that Hunter is the father of Hudson’s baby.

And a source said: “Wendy is not in a good way, everyone is so concerned for her. The sad thing is that she’s been working so hard to stay sober and she’s been so honest in her struggles with all her fans, and this just tipped her over the edge.

“But the fact she still came to the set just shows how strong she’s trying to be.”

Williams is due back on air for the foreseeable future, however, production staff are taking things “one day at a time.”

We’re told it was Hunter who told her to go to a sober home with complete strangers.

Last week, she revealed she was living with “a bunch of smelly boys who have become my family” in a sober house.

Hunter’s alleged mistress is believed to have given birth in Philadelphia.

The couple was sharing a home in New Jersey, before Hudson moved into an apartment in New York.

The Daily Mail first reported Williams was rushed to the hospital.

A rep for Williams could not be reached for comment.
