12348723058?profile=originalG-Dep should have listened to his mother and girlfriend. According to him both of them told him not to go to the police and confess to a shooting that killed John Henkel 17 years ago.

Now that Dep is sitting in a New York City jail cell, probably facing a very long stretch in prison, you would think the victim’s family would be thankful for the confession. But that’s not the case, at least not for one relative.

Robert Henkel, the brother in law of the victim thinks Dep should have kept his mouth shut.

“I think he’s an idiot,” The 56-year old Henkel told the New York Post. “He has three kids and a wife. It was years and years and years ago. Finally, we’re not always thinking about it, and now it has to be dug up all again.

Dep, real name Trevell Coleman maintains that he didn’t know the man he shot three times in the chest during a robbery had died.

12348722494?profile=originalMurder Victim. John Henkel

Dep and his lawyer seem to disagree on why he confessed. The rapper says he wanted to, “get right with God.” His lawyer Michael Alperstein on the other hand said the confession is part of a 12 step anti-drug addiction program.

The former Bad Boy artist is said to be battling heroin and pcp addictions.

Whatever the case, it’s possible some things should remain unsaid, at least Henkel thinks so.

His mother told him, ‘Don’t turn yourself in,’” Henkel said. “She was right… after all this time, yes he just should have shut up.

What’s your opinion on this situation? If a family member of yours was murdered would you want to know who killed them and have them brought to justice no matter how long it took? Or after a number of years would you want to just forget about the whole thing like Robert Henkel?

Soul Legend Teena Marie Dead At Age 54 [Video]

12348721897?profile=originalVideo After The Jump

(CNN) -- Teena Marie, a celebrated R&B singer-songwriter, was found dead Sunday at her California home, her manager said.

Born Mary Christine Brockert in Santa Monica, California, the 54-year-old artist famously paired with late funk legend Rick James and was nominated four times for a Grammy Award, according to her official website.

Marie was found dead by her daughter after apparently dying in her sleep, manager Mike Gardner said.

"Teena was a black voice trapped in a white body," said Cathy Hughes, founder of Radio One, a broadcasting company that targets African-American and urban listeners. "I would always tell her that she was one of the greatest vocalists of our time."

Among her songs were "Lovergirl," "Portuguese Love," "Ooo La La La," and "I'm a Sucker for Your Love."

While no cause of death has been released, the singer's publicist Lynn Jeter said that Marie suffered a grand mal seizure -- a neurological event, marked by loss of consciousness and violent muscle contractions, according to the Mayo Clinic -- a month ago.

"Luckily, someone was there," Jeter said of that seizure. "The ambulance took her to the hospital, and on the way she had another seizure."

The publicist said that she had a "great" conversation on Saturday with Marie, who told her that she was excited about heading to Atlanta to perform this week -- in what would have been her first performance since the seizure.

Marie sang under various record labels, including Motown, Epic, Stax Records and Cash Money Classics, since bursting on the scene as a 19-year-old, according to her website. Her last studio album, Congo Square, featured several collaborations.

"The enduring influence of Teena's inspirational, trailblazing career, could only have been made possible through her brilliant song-writing, showmanship and high energy passion which laid the ground work for the future generations of R&B, hip-hop, and soul," said Gene Rumsey, chief label officer with Concord Music Group.

"We feel extremely fortunate to have worked with a visionary who changed music in indelible ways."

Eddie Levert, founder of the vocal group The O'Jays, praised Marie as both a singer and mother.

"There are a lot of black people who swore by her and believed in her, as far as her music was concerned," he said. "She was a good mom, and to me, that is saying a lot.''

New York city showed Lil Mama no love when she tried to perform last week.

The Brooklyn rapper was one of the artists at Chris Brown’sAll Black Christmas Extravaganza” at Webster Hall on December 23.

Everything seemingly was going ok, until Mama decided to spit a freestyle about, “Jack and The Beanstalk

She had already spit the exact same lyrics over Fabolous' "You Be Killin Em" beat, but for whatever reason she decided to do them over acapella

You been the rat before the hole in the cheese. I been Jack before the stalk and the beans. If I chose the fast life, I chose the hawk with a beam. None of these rap b*tches is talking to me. Talking to me? They not talking to me. Let a b*tch play dumb like she off in the scene,” she rapped.

By this time the restless crowd was starting to boo loudly. Lil Mama’s hype man tried to quiet them so she could finish, but they weren't trying to hear it.

So instead of attempting to finish her set, Lil Mama told the crowd that she loved them and that after her mother died nothing could faze her. She thanked her haters for making her what she is today, then exited the stage.

What do yall think? Was her freestyle that bad?

Peep the footage below.

12348720459?profile=originalRapper Talib Kweli might decide to ride solo for New Year’s Eve following this morning’s post-Christmas nightmare.

The Brooklyn MC was in the midst of record release party for his upcoming album ‘Gutter Rainbows’, when he and his wife DJ Eque got into a jealousy fueled altercation, according to the New York Post.

According to the report, Eque “flew into a rage” and jumped her husband after witnessing him flirting with another woman. The pair started wrestling before falling onto a table, breaking glasses in the process.

Security at bar Snap in New York City, where the party was being held then asked them to leave. They were reportedly still arguing when they got into their car outside.

The couple were married in 2009. Talib had earlier that night joked that he was happy that the listening party’s sponsor Hennessy had paid for the wedding, otherwise he might not have gotten married.

Crazy situation, hopefully they can work it out.

PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) – The head of Haiti's voodoo religion appealed to authorities Thursday to halt bloody lynchings of voodoo priests by people who blame them for causing the Caribbean country's deadly cholera epidemic.

Since the epidemic started in mid-October, at least 45 male and female voodoo priests, known respectively as "houngan" and "manbo," have been killed. Many of the victims were hacked to death and mutilated by machetes, Max Beauvoir, the "Ati" or supreme leader of Haitian voodoo, told Reuters.

"They are being blamed for using voodoo to contaminate people with cholera," Beauvoir said.

He said the killers accused voodoo priests of spreading cholera by scattering powder or casting "spells" and complained that local police and government officials were not doing enough to halt the lynchings and punish the killers. Voodoo is recognized and protected by the constitution as one of Haiti's main religions.

"My call is to the authorities so they can assume their responsibilities," said Beauvoir, who fears more attacks against voodoo devotees. Most of the lynchings occurred in the southwest of Haiti but also in the center and the north.

12348718862?profile=originalCholera victims rest at the hospital of MSF (Medicin Sans Frontieres) on December 22, 2010 in Sarthe, a suburb in the north of Port-Au-Prince.

Since emerging in central regions in October, the cholera epidemic has ripped through Haiti's poor population, still traumatized from a January earthquake. It has killed well over 2,500 people and affected all of the nation's 10 provinces.

Cholera is mainly spread by contaminated water and food.

As the epidemic death toll has risen, so too has popular fear and anger. Some Haitians have blamed Nepalese United Nations peacekeepers for bringing cholera to a Caribbean nation where the disease had been absent for decades.

The U.N. mission in Haiti maintains there is no conclusive evidence to back this accusation, despite a report by an expert contracted by the French government that linked the infection to latrines at the Nepalese camp located beside a river.

In November, there were anti-U.N. riots over the cholera, which continued to claim victims as the Western Hemisphere's poorest state held elections marred by confusion and fraud charges. Final vote results have still not been announced.

Beauvoir said he had discussed the anti-voodoo attacks with Haiti's Communications and Culture Ministry, which confirmed the killings this week. Minister Marie-Laurence Lassegue made a public appeal for the lynchings to end.

FEAR AND IGNORANCE

More than half of Haiti's nearly 10 million people are believed to practice voodoo, a religion brought from West Africa several centuries ago by slaves forced to work on the plantations of white masters in what was then the rich French Caribbean colony of Saint Domingue.

Cholera, which causes virulent debilitating diarrhea, can kill in hours if left untreated. But it also can be easily cured through fast rehydration of the patient. Aid experts say the ignorance of many Haitians about the disease is one of the causes of the fears and suspicions surrounding the epidemic.

In at least one case in central Haiti, an angry mob worried about possible contagion destroyed a cholera treatment center being set up by foreign medical workers.

12348719093?profile=original
For this reason, public education about the disease and how it is spread and can be treated is essential, aid groups say.

"It is hardly surprising that people would be anxious about cholera when it appears in their communities for the first time," said Delphine Chedorge, head of mission in Haiti for Doctors Without Borders/ Medecins Sans Frontieres, one of the foreign medical groups most active in fighting the epidemic.

"We also need to make people understand that opening new (cholera treatment centers) in or near their towns and villages can help stop the spread of the disease, protecting their communities, rather than endangering them," she said in an MSF statement.

Beauvoir said he suspected that representatives of some other religions might be stirring up popular fears against voodoo practitioners using the cholera as a pretext.

12348719664?profile=original
"I saw this coming. Since the earthquake some people have been blaming us, saying that we cast spells and did evil things which brought the earthquake as a punishment," he said.

After the January 12 earthquake, which wrecked much of the capital Port-au-Prince and killed more than 250,000 people, voodoo leaders had to defend themselves publicly against accusations by some Evangelical preachers that the voodoo religion somehow caused the natural disaster.

You would have thought they were giving away free money judging by the long lines outside of Houston stores Thursday (December 23).

Instead people had camped out overnight to try and cop a pair of the new Air Jordan “Cool Greys.

Police had to be called out to several locations as crowds started to get unruly. Scuffles broke out and arguments ensued as stores quickly sold out.

One man was so desperate for a pair he hid in a trash can inside a Houston mall, hoping to be the first in line.

I was in a trash can for about an hour in the mall, trying to be the first one,” said Jumarcus Bingham. “This is the first time they’re coming back out in ten years.”

By the time Bingham got inside the store they had already sold out of his size.

Not to be deterred, Bingham made a mad dash over to another mall and finally scored a pair. But only after paying a stranger $400 for shoes that retail for $180.

It was a nice come up for the stranger, but Jumarcus was happy and didn’t care if people thought he was crazy.

They probably do [think I’m crazy], I mean I had to get em, I support Jordans,” he said.

The Air Jordan 11 Retro Cool Grey edition shoes had not been available since 2001.

How far would you have been willing to go to grab a pair?

Romania's Parliament cancelled a no-confidence vote on Thursday after a father whose payments for his disabled child had been cut by the Romanian government leapt from a balcony in the parliament in protest against the decision. He was not seriously injured.

A loud thud reverberated in the chamber after the man, Adrian Sobaru - identified by the country's public television station as one of its engineers - hit the benches shortly after Prime Minister Emil Boc greeted the lawmakers.

As he jumped, he could be heard shouting: 'Boc, you've taken away the rights of our children'. Mr Sobaru, who suffered fractures to the face, and other non life-threatening injuries, was able to get into the parliament because he works as an electrician for the national television station. He then shouted "Liberty and Justice" as he was taken to hospital. He was also wearing a T-shirt with the slogan 'You've killed our future', according to reports.

12348721071?profile=originalWith only two games left in the NFL regular season, fans of the better squads are starting to daydream about the playoffs. Also speculation ramps up about which players will get coveted awards like Rookie Of The Year and Most Valuable Player.

The MVP race is going to most likely be decided between Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick and New England Patriots signal caller Tom Brady.

Both are enjoying stellar seasons, leading their teams to the top of their respective divisions.

The Pats have an AFC leading 12 wins with only 2 losses. While the Eagles, coming off a stunning come from behind win over the New York Giants last Sunday are 10-4.

Vick's season has been remarkable, especially when you consider the fact he wasn’t even expected to play much this year. At the beginning of the season he was playing second string to Kevin Kolb. If not for a Kolb injury in the first game of the year, Vick might have given the chance to prove that he’s an even better player now that he was prior to going to jail for dog fighting.

Vick has passed for 2,755 yards, with 20 touchdowns and a passer rating of 103.6. Add to that his rushing statistics of 613 yards at an average of 6.7 yards per carry and 8 tds and it’s easy to see why he could win MVP.

But Brady is having just as good of a season with far less offensive talent around him. Vick is playing with a talented young running back, LeSean McCoy and two dynamite wide receivers in Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin.

After Randy Moss was traded following week 4, Brady’s only proven player left on offense was Wes Welker.

The Patriots QB has thrown for 3,561 yards, 31 touchdowns with only 4 interceptions in 449 attempts. His passer rating of 109.9 in incredible.

Brady has thrown 292 passes in a row without an interception. This Sunday against the Buffalo Bills if he throws 17 more passes without an int he will break a 19 year old NFL record set by Bernie Kosar.

Both Vick and Brady are deserving of the MVP Award, but there can only be one. Cast your vote below for the player you think deserves it the most.
