A mother shot her 3 children inside a home on the south side of Winston-Salem while on a Facetime call on Tuesday.
The mother then apparently shot herself, police said.
The person at the other end of the call witnessed the shootings.
The dead were: sisters Sakendra Syann Steele, 9; Sakenya Syretha Steele, 12; their brother, Sakenlo Shawn Steele Jr., 14; & the children’s mother, Ethel Syretha Steele, who was 40 years old.
The bodies of the 4 were found at 3140 Brookhill Drive, where police arrived to find the house locked after receiving a report of a shooting at 11:54 a.m. on Tuesday.
The house is in a normally quiet residential neighborhood.
Winston-Salem police forced entry into the locked home & found the bodies of the 3 children & their mother.
The mother shot the youngest girl first, police believe. Then the older girl jumped up & screamed before she was shot twice. The boy was the last of the children to be shot.
Police have not said where the family’s bodies were found.

Two Americans who survived a cartel kidnapping in Mexico that left 2 of their friends & an innocent local woman dead have revealed horrifying details of the attack.
Latavia Washington McGee & Eric Williams spoke with CNN's Anderson Cooper on Tuesday & revealed how the gunmen cornered their minivan, kidnapped the group & killed Shaeed Woodard & Zindell Brown.
The 4 U.S. citizens were driving in Matamoros on March 3 when Washington McGee says the group turned down a side street & heard a car horn. "Zindell was in the back seat, he said 'don't stop,' he saw a gun."
When they were forced to stop, Woodard & Brown opened the vehicle's doors & ran out but were both immediately gunned down.
"When I jumped out on the driver's side, that's when I was shot in both legs," Williams said.
Williams, 38, said he couldn't see Shaeed because he was somewhere behind him, "but I could see Zindell's back. He was hit 2 times & big chunks of meat was gone."
The 4 Americans were loaded into the back of a pickup truck & at that stage, Brown & Woodard were still alive.
The pair said they arrived at a house where the kidnappers wore red "Diablo masks" & put "guns at our heads, telling us not to look up."
Williams said some sort of cartel "investigator" interrogated the group & "that's when Shaeed said 'I love y'all, I'm gone,' & he died right there." Williams revealed, "It was the last thing he said."
Disturbingly, the cartel members also tried to make the two survivors have sex with each other. Washington Brown and Williams told CNN they refused and told the gunmen they were brother and sister and she was pregnant.
Mexican authorities have charged six men over the kidnapping. 5 cartel members were also charged
Brutal Nazi Torture of Black German Boy Gert Schramm in Nazi Germany - Buchenwald - World War 2. Despite the Nuremberg Laws, some Black people and so called German “Aryans” still became romantically involved with one another. These relationships were dangerous for both partners, especially if they chose to try to legally marry. In Nazi Germany, everyone was required to apply for permission to marry. When interracial couples applied, their applications were consistently denied for racial reasons. These applications brought their interracial relationships to the attention of government authorities. This often had dire consequences for the couple. In multiple cases, marriage applications resulted in harassment, sterilization and the breaking up of partnerships.
Legal couples whose marriages pre-dated the Nuremberg Laws were harassed by the Nazi regime. The regime pressured white German women to divorce their Black husbands. Interracial couples and their children were often humiliated and even assaulted when they appeared together in public.
Like their parents, many Black children in Germany experienced the Nazi era as a time of increased loneliness, isolation, and exclusion. Some Black children felt German and wanted to be a part of the excitement. But Nazi racial ideology had no place for Black-German children. For Black children in Nazi Germany, schools became sites of humiliation. Black children were often degraded in racial science classes and ridiculed by teachers who supported the Nazis.
Just as the Nazification of the education system greatly restricted the rights of Jewish children to attend public schools, it also impacted Black children over the course of the 1930s. Some Black students were expelled and unable to complete their education. Few private schools would accept Black students and finding apprenticeships, which in Germany was crucial to find employment, became increasingly difficult.
Such was a case of Gert Schramm.
After completing elementary school, he worked as a helper in a car repair shop. According to the Nuremberg Laws, he was denied the right to any apprenticeship as a “Mischling of the first grade”. Mischling was a pejorative legal term used in Nazi Germany to denote persons of mixed "Aryan" and non-Aryan ancestry as codified in the Nuremberg racial laws of 1935.
Most of the Black people living under the Nazi Regime were effectively trapped there.
While some tried to leave, for the vast majority this was not possible as they could not receive visas to other countries or legally immigrate elsewhere because of citizenship issues. Eventually, Black people in Germany had little choice but to adapt to life under the Nazis.
The second world war began on the 1st of September, 1939 with the invasion of Poland.
During World War II, Nazi policies against Black people became more extreme. This occurred in the context of the broader radicalization of Nazi policies against supposed racial and political enemies. Because of laws and policies that sharpened discrimination and racism in Germany, many Black people ended up imprisoned in workhouses, prisons, hospitals, psychiatric facilities, and concentration camps. In 1941, Jack Brankson, Gert’s father, was arrested during one of his visits to Germany on the basis of the Nazi racial laws and deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. There is no trace of him after that.
However, Gert Schramm was no exception either.
He was arrested in May 1944. Officially, he was taken into "protective custody" by the Gestapo under the Law for the Protection of German Blood and Honor as his father was an Afro-American man. For weeks, he was moved from one Gestapo prison to another, denied food and water, beaten up, hit in the face and knocked around until on the 20th of July 1944 when he was finally deported to Buchenwald concentration camp which was one of the largest concentration camps established within German borders. He was 15 years old when the gate with the inscription „Jedem das Seine“ meaning “ to each what he deserves” closed behind him.
From that moment on Gert was not called by his name anymore. He became only a number: 49489 which was tattooed onto his left arm. His sentence was an unspecified time, to be no less than fifteen years...

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The man accused of shooting & killing a rapper in Houston is in custody.
Montrel Burley, 40, is charged with the murder of Darrell Gentry, 26, aka "BTB Savage."
HPD said Burley surrendered to authorities on Tuesday.
Court records made public on Monday show Burley was under arrest & in custody the day after the deadly shooting, but was released.
Burley was reportedly arrested & charged with narcotics possession during a traffic stop in New Braunfels on March 31.
He was a passenger in the vehicle that police believe was used in the shooting on March 30. Court records show he had rented it. When police started asking Burley about the vehicle, he requested an attorney & ended the interview. It's unclear how or why he was released.
Documents show Burley was a close friend & fellow gang member of Omar Richardson. In an interview days before his murder, Gentry described how his girlfriend shot Richardson in self-defense during a robbery at their home in San Antonio in February. Police had apparently said the shooting was justified.
On social media, Gentry posted photos of himself at the bloody crime scene just hours before he was killed in Houston.
In court records, police tied the 2 murders together, citing retaliation.
On the day of Gentry's murder, police identified the suspect vehicle as a black Subaru Outback. They tracked it via license plate cameras to Burley's address in New Braunfels & when they searched it after the traffic stop, they found a shell casing similar to what was found at the crime scene in Houston. Cell phone data on the day of the murder show Burley's phone in the area at the time of the shooting in Houston.
According to a police, they did not have the cell phone data when Burley was in custody.
Police believe an unknown second suspect was involved.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — The man wanted for shooting his mother, sister, and little brother this week in Henrico County was killed in a shootout with law enforcement in North Carolina.
"In the early morning hours of March 30, 2023, law enforcement encountered Tiye Adam Washington II in the area of Old Henrietta Road and Providence Road [in Rutherford County, North Carolina]," a Rutherford County Sheriff’s spokesperson said in a press release. "During an exchange of gunfire, a Rutherford County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured, and Washington sustained injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene."
Henrico Police had previously been in contact with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office about the possibility of Washington headed to North Carolina.
Washington, 26, shot his family members after his mother threatened to kick him out of her home.

In the documents, Kalabrya claims that on April 8 & the early morning hours of April 9, 2022, Dwayne visited 4 establishments in the Miami area & was drugged by a group of people planning to blackmail & rob him.
Kalabrya says Joey Smith, Meriem Yassine, Wissal Yassine & Karlee Peyton drugged the 26-year-old old at some point while he spent time at the Wyndham Hotel, a Drive Shack, a restaurant called the Blue Anchor Pub & E11EVEN nightclub.
According to a statement released by Kalabrya's attorney, Rick Ellsley, on Monday morning, Ellsley alleges that Dwayne's "highly-expensive watch was stolen from him shortly before his death" ... although he doesn't specify who he thinks took it.
Kalabrya is suing the 4 for battery ... while also going after the four establishments for negligence, claiming they allowed "patrons to use drugs & to drug other patrons, including [Dwayne]."
Dwayne died on April 9, 2022 ... after authorities say he was struck by a dump truck on a Florida highway. According to a Broward County Medical Examiner's Office investigation report, Dwayne had been on foot on the roadway after his rental car had ran out of gas.
Authorities said in the docs the QB "drank heavily" & ingested ketamine in the hours leading up to his passing. They said he had a blood alcohol level of .24 at the time of the accident.
