A former Ohio police officer has pleaded guilty to stealing cocaine from police evidence and crime scenes, federal officials said. Joel M. Mefford, 35, of London, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, possessing with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and money laundering, according to an Aug. 27 news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio.
Mefford was arrested Feb. 1, according to records from the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. McClatchy News reached out to Mefford’s attorney Aug. 30 for comment but did not immediately hear back. Mefford, while working as a Columbus Division of Police officer investigating drug crimes, stole and trafficked cocaine with the help of another officer, according to officials.
On multiple occasions, Mefford and the other officer only submitted a portion of the drugs they found during their investigations as evidence, stealing the rest to be sold, officials said. In April 2020, Mefford and the other officer stole approximately 20 kilograms of cocaine from the police department’s evidence room, which was later sold, and replaced it with fake cocaine, according to indictment records filed in December.
Officials said Mefford received about $130,000 from cocaine sales and deposited more than $72,000 in cash into his personal bank account. Mefford will be sentenced at a later date, according to the release. Possessing with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine carries a minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life in prison, and possessing with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine carries a penalty of five to 40 years in prison, officials said. Money laundering carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Reminisce Festival, where Fatman Scoop was set to perform Sept. 7 also posted to Instagram saying, "It is with the deepest sorrow that we at Reminisce have received the devastating news of the tragic passing of the legendary Isaac Freeman III, known to us all as Fatman Scoop. This loss has left us all heartbroken."
Not long after, his family also released a statement, which said in part ... "He was the laughter in ours lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage."

A spokesperson for Irv Gotti confirmed that the Murder Inc. co-founder suffered a “minor stroke” earlier this year, just days after Wack 100 disclosed the news on his podcast.
In a statement to TMZ, the rep explained that the 54-year-old executive “has been struggling with diabetes for years, which caused him to have a minor stroke over six months ago.”
Since then, Irv has reportedly “changed his diet to eating more healthy” and has “been successful in making a full recovery.” The spokesperson also refuted Wack100’s claims that Irv was in a rehab facility, emphasizing that he “is at home with his family, enjoying life.”

Lil Baby loudly berated cops during his arrest in Vegas for possession of an illegal weapon, and the whole thing was caught on video.
An eyewitness tells TMZ, a squadron of cops rolled into the Encore Las Vegas Monday night and came out with the rapper in handcuffs.
As Vegas Metro PD officers were patting the rapper down near a police vehicle behind the hotel, Lil Baby shouted he has a license for the gun, and implored officers to let him go.
Cops weren't having it -- and Lil Baby got more frustrated and began talking smack ... at one point taunting officers that they should check him thoroughly because he had the "gun in his nuts."
He was eventually led into the police truck and hauled off to the Clark County Detention Center. He's since been released after posting $5,000 bail.
Shortly after his arrest, law enforcement sources told TMZ LB was caught on video being passed a gun at Vegas' Encore.
Cops arrived, investigated, and arrested him for allegedly carrying a concealed firearm without a permit.
Nevada doesn’t recognize concealed-carry permits from Georgia, where Lil Baby’s from.
