Joliet, Illinois is a city located about 40 miles SouthWest of Chicago with a population of about 147,000. The city is popular for its abandoned prison, casino, raceways, and historic sites. But in our opinion, it will very soon be known for its music.
Leading that move is two brothers, C Mo and Lil Matt, who go by Greezy Gang. In the last few weeks they have come to our attention with consistent video releases and their debut mixtape release, "BooPac". From the cover to the sound it seemed to pay a hiphop homage to Boosie Badazz and the late Tupac Shakur. And their sound only amplified that belief.
They first came under our radar with the single music video release from C Mo, "Black Lives Matter." He tackled it solo and showed first hand these two were incredibly talented together or apart. His steady paced lyrics told his view from a stand point with out animosity or hatred. While describing being raised with a history of confusion, and growing into self placement in a world where violence seems to be around every corner. From those in the community to those sworn to protect it. He even ends the whole thing with a very strong statement, "Black Lives Matter....and we don't say that to say, all lives don't matter...we're just saying,...we matter too."
He released it with a powerful visual which included everything from live footage of his performance in midst of a peaceful march, to clips and live audio of the brutality face by those in America daily, and the outrage that comes from people who feel their voices aren't heard.
Prior to that, they seemed to have been the first in a long following of "Letter 2 Boosie" songs and videos. And came back full circle in the last few weeks when they released, "Boosie Juice", a hard hitting well played ode to Boosie's new alcohol brand, Boosie Juice.
And in between....they took no pause in showing that they may be fresh in the game,..but they have come to play as seasoned vets. After releasing a few videos like Can't Forget and Happiness and Peace, they dropped their debut release, BooPac, while promoting the motto "Bringing Real Back". And they are focused in doing so.
Line after line, BooPac was full of fresh and original delivery telling their story growing up in back streets of Joliet that the city hides from its tourists. Speaking on the bonds of blood with "Family Calls" to the backstabbing trust can get you in "Never Wit Us". They even did it correctly with a few songs real street soldiers can ride to with their main one like the Tink sampled, "Treat Me." But one of our personal favorites is "New Generation". Where they go head on with the misguidance and wrongful rebellion of their generation. It had to have gotten 25 repeats before the next song got played. It was very deep, well worded and a respectable play on their love for hiphop. Music with a real message.
They definitely have a story to tell....And the first of many chapters has been released. If you feel everything is starting to sound the same and has no significance beyond the words,...then get your copy of BooPac TODAY...It is available now only at www.hfemovement.com...in the meantime, check out a few of these videos.
