Video After The Jump

When Forbes rolls out it's next list of hip hop's wealthiest moguls, Dr. Dre's name will be at the top of it. Apple is reportedly set to acquire Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion. Forbes estimates the deal will push Dre's net worth to $800 million.

12350805097?profile=original

"The first billionaire in hip hop right here from the motherfucking West Coast, believe it," Dre said in a new video.

The biggest asset of Beats would be the company’s streaming music service, which offers a much more thorough—and successful—social experience than iTunes," writes Gay Allen in Forbes. It’s advertised as ‘The right music for right now,’ using a very simple interface crafted especially for the mobile experience. Using the Beats iOS app, the user simply creates a ‘sentence’ explaining where they are, what they’re feeling and who they’re with. Beats then creates a playlist of the appropriate music. There are also additional paths to finding music, including by genre, artist playlist and curator. Once your music is playing, there are additional options to follow artists and explore their work, share playlists and comment on music….There’s no streaming music service so close to the ‘the scene’ than Beats. Incorporating the Beats technology into iTunes could generate a entirely new list of subscribers for the service, which now has over 800 million accounts.

The deal has not officially gone through yet, but it could be finalized by next week. Congrats to Dr. Dre for a job well done.

Video After The Jump

STAR talks the Lenny Cooke basketball documentary, former NBA player Steve Francis acting bizarre in a nightclub, Chris Brown needing more time in jail and the Hot 97 reality show on VH1.

Radio legend Troi Torain (STAR) always delivers hard-hitting objective truth. As a culture critic he is vicious, as a businessman he is relentless, as a luminary he is un-matched.

12350228901?profile=original

Considered a radio pioneer by many, STAR has set precedents on the urban landscape and was recently inducted into News One's "Top 20 Black Radio Jockeys Of All Time."

STAR & BUC WILD made the national stage on MTV (1999) but it was their radio show on New York's Hot 97 and Power 105 (2000 - 2006) that secured their place in Hip-Hop history.

Torain's resume includes The Source magazine, MTV Networks, Hot 97, Power 104.1, Power 105.1, Pulse 87, Hip-Hop Weekly magazine, Vladtv, Thisis50, 100.3 The Beat, shot97.com and VH1 (The Gossip Game).

This clip is from STAR's LIVE show (12noon -- 2pm) on http://shot97.com.

The Game name dropped a number of Chicago artists, including the L.E.P. Bogus Boys, that he is supposedly cool with while dissing Chi-Town's Lil Durk on Tyga's beef record, "Chiraq." L.E.P. isn't having it and one of their members, G Count, has released a reply going at Game for using the group's name in the song and for jumping into Durk and Tyga's beef in the first place.

"You don't know shit about Chiraq/Dickriding me to get a pass, you don't know the G-Count like that/As far as Chicago riding with you, point 'em out, them who?/Show me exactly who you talking about, I'll green light it on them too," Count raps.

Written By Jay Balfour for BattleRap.com

In an exclusive interview with Battle Rap, Big T touched on the nearly universal feeling amongst battle rapper of losing a match, his thoughts on the viability of battle rappers transitioning into the industry at large and why he thinks the industry should be monopolized by a catch-all league.

Remembering a battle between Conceited and Yung Ill, Big T recalled DNA speaking directly to Yung Ill after the bill about his obvious loss.

12350518096?profile=original

“Conceited battled Yung Ill, I think,” Big T said. “DNA walked on the stage right after the battle like, ‘You lost. You just lost. You just lost.’ And I’m thinking like, ‘I know he doesn’t wanna hear this.’ At the end of the day, it hurts. If you lose, it hurts bro. You lose a battle, you could almost always relate to where Eminem came from, where he was like, he lost a battle and he would be messed up. I remember when I was younger, 16. I entered a Freestyle Friday joint in Chicago and I lost a battle and I was sick for like a week like somebody died. It really messed me up. But I came back and I started killing. Don’t nobody want that feeling of losing.”

During the interview, Big T also explained his view that within a year or two a large league may have the ability to consolidate the industry.

“Battle Rap falling off? Nah,” he said. “It’s getting saturated. If that’s considered falling off, yeah. I just think Battle Rap should be monopolized right now. Basically, it’s so big to the point where it should be an NBA. It’s just this…It’s too many people battling on different leagues. That’s how I feel. I think we’re maybe a year or two away from that. Somebody needs to get the big idea. These millions of views, I’m a person. I battle. I would have more fame and notoriety than a person that just put out a record. It’s getting very close. Very close.”

Speaking more generally about the much-talked about transition for battle rappers from that arena to the mainstream, Big T alluded to a stigma holding many performers back.

“Who’s to say these battle rappers can’t make music?” he said. “These Jay Z’s, [Eminem’s], these people were battle rappers. But you know what, they had culture. All it is is somebody to show people the structure. I think it’s a stigma because they scared ‘cause we could come for their spot. We could come up. Like 50 Cent told me, ‘Ya’ll could come up with the lyrics all day. Once ya’ll find that right, it’s gon’ be over.’ They gon’ put the stigma up. They gon’ put this force-field that they blinding people with that’s not true at all. It’s good. It’s undeniable. That’s all I gotta say.”

Tara Thomas Agency presents

MIZ GIN

Get You Off

Listen On Youtube

Mizgin Demircan is a Swedish music artist that is making her debut here in the United States with her sexy, fierce music and intoxicating voice, best known for her single "Get U Off". She is turning heads and rocking stages, boasting raw, enthusiastic energy and an eclectic sound.

A true artist to her core, Mizgin dreamed of hitting the top of the charts ever since she first started singing, writing, and performing as a young girl. Growing up in Bollnäs, a small town in Sweden, the musical scene was limited and she had trouble finding things to participate in as a singer. Nevertheless, she threw herself into everything she could find, including school shows, small venues and local events. For a while she tried taking dance classes but somehow always ended up practicing at home in front of the mirror and creating original moves that felt more like her own style. While she occasionally draws inspiration from others, Mizgin is primarily self-taught and loves adapting and re-creating things into something new and different. She believes that allowing your individuality to pour out of you unfiltered is what makes a successful artist.

In 2008, Mizgin went out on a limb and auditioned for the popular Swedish TV show Körslaget, a competition in which seven celebrities return to their respective hometowns and each select 20 singers for their own choir. The seven teams then compete until just one is left standing. Hanna Hedlund was the celebrity singer leading Mizgin's team. They worked hard, dedicating three months of their life to practicing and performing each round before ultimately winning the competition. It was a thrilling experience that only intensified her desire to succeed.

Mizgin always felt like she was meant to do something great with her life and has worked incredibly hard to make that vision a reality. Armed with the knowledge that things are never handed to you in life, she chased after her dream with infectious enthusiasm. In 2013, she traveled to America with Oscar Andersson, a long-time friend who was planning to start a music company in Sweden. Serendipity brought her together with Kama, the talented production duo that would ultimately become her producers here in the United States, as well as co-writer Nav Ramasamy and talent manager Kelly Newton of Jack N Jill Management.

Her single "Get U Off" was originally slated for one of the biggest pop stars in the world, but Mizgin was so struck by the song that she knew she wanted it more than anything. She approached her producers and told them that she was not leaving until the song was hers. "You wanted someone hungry," she told them. "Well, I'm starving." True to her word, she did not leave the studio until her producers agreed to give the song to her. "They looked at me like I was crazy," Mizgin admits, "but in the end that's who I am." In everything that she does, she continues to inspire those around her with her infectious passion and dedication. Music is not just her dream, it is her life -- and nothing is going to keep her from making it a reality.

"The only thing that is endless in life is your imagination, so never be afraid to use it and believe in it. If you want something, go get it; no one is going to get it for you. You may get help along the way, but the only one that can truly take you where you want to go is you."  --Mizgin
