The nominees for induction next year into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced Tuesday, October 18, and Tupac Shakur was selected in his first year of eligibility.
It would be hard to imagine Shakur not being inducted, given his list of classic albums released before and after his September 1996 murder in Las Vegas at the age of 25.
Shakur's musical legacy began in 1991 with his debut album titled "2Pacalypse Now." He would follow that up with "Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z.," "Me Against the World," "All Eyez on Me," "The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory" and many more.
According to the Associated Press, the other nominess for the 2017 class are Chic, Chaka Khan, Pearl Jam, the J. Geils Band, Journey, Janet Jackson, Joe Tex, Kraftwerk, MC5, The Cars, the Zombies, Yes, Bad Brains, Depeche Mode; Electric Light Orchestra, Jane's Addiction; Joan Baez and Steppenwolf.
More than 800 artists, historians and music-industry officials will vote to decide who gets in. Fans will also be allowed to vote online.
The induction ceremony will take place in December at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, New York. HBO will later televise the event.
Inductees will officially be enshrined in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame museum in Cleveland next April.
