Adrien Broner lost a 12-round unanimous decision to Shawn Porter as his idol, Floyd Mayweather Jr., sat ringside Saturday, June 20, in the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The fight was not pleasing to the eye. The two combatants stayed in the pocket the majority of the bout, but there was a lot of clenching and holding.
Referee Tony Weeks issued multiple warnings to Broner before finally taking a point from him in the 11th round of the non-title fight for fouling.
Broner's lone highlight came in the 12th round when he knocked Porter down with a left hook. Porter quickly got back to his feet and was able to finish to come away with the win.
In the end Porter simply outworked Broner putting an end to all of AB's pre-fight trash talk.
Porter won on scores of 114-112, 115-111, and 118-108. It was Broner's second loss in his last five fights, dropping his record to 30-2.
Porter's record now stands at 26-1-1.
Floyd spoke on the fight afterwards.
