Rihanna had a very difficult time discussing her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown and his 2009 assault on her during a new interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Rihanna becomes very emotional while describing how despite how angry she was at Brown for hitting her, she still felt sorry for him.
"I lost my best friend," Rihanna said. "Everything I knew switched in a night and I couldn't control that. I had to deal with that and it's not east for me to understand on interpret. And it's not east to interpret on camera. Not with the world watching."
The singer goes on to explain how confused and devastated she was.
"It was hard for me to even pay attention to my mind and figuring things out because now I became a circus," she explains. "And I felt protective [of Brown]. I felt like the only person they hate right now is him. It was a weird, confusing space to be in. Because as angry as I was, as angry and hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help ... and who's going to help him? Nobody's going to say he needs help. Everybody's going to say he's a monster without looking at the source. And I was more concerned about him."
