Oniryuichi is one of those artists.
And if you’ve been paying attention, you’ve already seen the transformation happening in real time.
The Origin: EDM Roots & Internet Influence
Like many artists of his generation, Oniryuichi’s journey didn’t start in a studio—it started online.
Back in 2016, his earliest creations were rooted in EDM, inspired by names like Skrillex, Marshmello, and Deadmau5—the architects of what many remember as the golden era of YouTube intros and digital-era sound design.
But things shifted quickly.
From 2017 through 2021, he became deeply immersed in the underground wave—pulling influence from artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Juice WRLD, Yung Gravy, Charli XCX, 100 gecs, Brakence, midwxst, ericdoa, and glaive.
It was the SoundCloud era. The hyperpop emergence. The experimental wave.
And Oniryuichi was fully tapped in.
The Learning Curve: Failure, Removal, and Refinement
In 2018, he began producing his own beats—marking the first real step toward independence.
By 2021, he released his first vocal album.
It didn’t go as planned.
With limited knowledge of mixing and mastering at the time, the project was met with heavy criticism. The response was strong enough that he ultimately pulled the album from all platforms.
For most artists, that moment becomes a breaking point.
For Oniryuichi, it became a turning point.
Rebuilding the Sound: Trial, Error, and Identity
Instead of retreating, he leaned in.
From 2021 onward, he focused on developing his engineering, production, and sonic identity—learning how to craft music that not only expressed his ideas, but sounded the way he envisioned them.
That process led to the 2023 release of “prod.oniryuichi”—his first fully self-produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered album.
While still rough around the edges, the project marked a clear shift.
It was the beginning of his real sound.
And this time, despite criticism, he left it up—recognizing it as both progress and proof of growth.
The Shift in Mindset: Making Music for Self First
Following that release, Oniryuichi made a critical decision:
He stopped chasing validation.
Instead of trying to “become an artist,” he focused on making music he personally enjoyed—allowing creativity to lead instead of expectation.
That shift unlocked a new level of consistency.
He began releasing projects like:
- “Lackadaisical”
- “Lackadaisical v2”
Each one showing clear improvement, refinement, and experimentation.
The Breakthrough Moment: “YIPPEEEE”
Momentum truly began to build with his late 2024 collaborative project “YIPPEEEE” alongside Tanger.
The project marked a turning point:
- Increased traction
- Stronger audience response
- Growing recognition around his sound
For the first time, the reception matched the effort.
And with that came a new decision:
It was time to take music seriously again.
The Reset: Pressure, Loss, and Rebuilding
What followed that breakthrough wasn’t immediate momentum—it was a period of pressure, adjustment, and personal growth.
In the years after “YIPPEEEE,” Oniryuichi entered the final stretch of college while balancing a full academic workload, financial responsibilities, and the challenge of rebuilding a GPA that began at 0.32—ultimately graduating with a 3.2.
At the same time, he was navigating a long-term relationship that limited his ability to stay connected socially, while also trying to maintain the traction he had built from the Tanger collaboration. After peaking near 6,000 monthly listeners and holding around 2,000 for a stretch, that momentum eventually declined.
That period was also marked by personal loss, including the passing of close friends and family members. Combined with everything else, it led to a complete loss of passion for making music.
After graduating in May 2025 with an interdisciplinary degree, Oniryuichi stepped away from his environment, spending several months in New York to reset. During that time, he focused on rebuilding—getting into calisthenics, reflecting, and slowly returning to music as a form of expression rather than expectation.
By the start of 2026, that reset turned into renewed direction. Revisiting a plan he had once put aside, he made the decision to fully lock in.
On February 15th, he began posting consistently again, marking the beginning of a new phase—one driven by discipline, clarity, and a deeper sense of purpose.
The Numbers Don’t Lie: A Deep Catalog in Motion
At this point, Oniryuichi isn’t just building a discography—he’s building a vault.
- 275+ songs released
- 500+ songs created overall
Much of that catalog—including unreleased and evolving versions—lives on his SoundCloud:

Recent Releases & Creative Direction
“Do What You Want”

One of his first records to gain traction through active promotion, this track blends introspection with cultural commentary.
Produced by Rollie, the record pairs heavy bass with a calm, reflective tone as Oniryuichi explores individuality—encouraging listeners to live freely, while acknowledging the consequences that come with it.
Notably, the track was largely freestyled—part of his creative approach that prioritizes authenticity over overthinking.

His most recent release, “You, bae,” released on March 31st represents a new layer of artistic exploration.
- Dives into romantic history, emotional conflict, and relationship patterns
- Blends vulnerability with melodic structure
- Experiments with a new vocal tone and range
Produced by spaceboyry and featuring Overpade, the track leans into bedroom pop and indie rock influences, signaling a clear expansion beyond his earlier sound.
Like much of his work, it began as a freestyle—later refined and structured without losing its emotional core.
