R. Kelly is facing more accusations of sexual impropriety.
Billboard reports that the 51-year old singer is being investigated by authorities in Dallas following a woman's claim that he gave her an STD and groomed her to join a sex cult.
The alleged victim was 19-years old at the time of the incidents. Her current age, the sexually transmitted disease contracted and her identity are not known. The woman says she had an eight month relationship with the Chicago crooner. She plans to file a federal civil complaint.
In addition to contracting an STD, the woman alleges in the complaint that during the relationship she “was the victim of several forms of criminal misconduct by Kelly, including, but not limited to, unlawful restraint, furnishing alcohol and illegal drugs to a minor, and aggravated assault (via the referenced intentional STD infection),” according to her attorney’s statement.
A representative for the Dallas Police Department tells Spin, “I can just confirm that we are looking into a reported incident.”
It is illegal to knowingly give someone an STD in Texas. HIV/AIDS transmission can result in an assault with a deadly weapon charge. Intentionally infecting someone with another STD such as syphilis or gonorrhea could be considered assault under Texas law.
Punishment can range from probation to jail time.
The attorney for the accuser is expected to hold a news conference in Dallas on Wednesday, April 18.
