Video After The Jump

Newly released surveillance footage shows a Florida man using a sledgehammer to break into a neighbor's home before allegedly shooting a person living there.

The video shows the suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Julio Perez, breaking through the front door of the home on September 8 while carrying a gun.

Perez was followed by a second man—who has not yet been publicly identified by police—carrying a baseball bat, WSVN reported.

Claudia Porro, the wife of shooting victim Robert Muina, described hearing a "huge boom" at the time of the break-in.

"My kids were all in their bedrooms," she told the television station. "I heard a huge boom. The door was on the floor. One of my neighbors walks in over my door into my house with my door on the floor."

Muina attempted to stop the intruders and take the gun away from Perez. He was allegedly shot in the shoulder and beaten with a bat.

Porro and the couple's three children were hiding in a closet during the attack, according to WPLG.

"When you're home, you're supposed to feel safe," Porro said. "It's very hard to fall asleep since then. It's very hard to be somewhere, like in the living room, without feeling like somebody is going to barge in through the front door the way they did."

Porro told WPLG that Muina and Perez had an ongoing conflict. The family since had to move from their residence out of fear after the "horrifying" home invasion, she said.

They have set up a GoFundMe to help pay for moving expenses and are living with family while saving money to move, according to the fundraiser.

Perez was arrested hours later and only two houses down from where the alleged attack took place. He was charged with first-degree attempted murder and armed burglary, and ordered to stay away from Muina, Porro and their children.

The alleged attack took place in the city's Westchester neighborhood, which is about 10 miles west of Downtown Miami.

Muina was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center and has since been discharged, WSVN reported.
